Title: keyless fob questions
Post by: randyo on May 22, 2023, 07:55:08 PM
situation: AK550 brand new fully charged battery that reads 12.7 volts

does not recognize the fob?  dead battery in the fob? bike is barely 9 months old

I will put a new CR2450 battery in the fob, do I have to push any reset buttons, or pair with the bike?  or just put the battery in, everything else will take care of itself?

I dislike keyless vehicles immensely.

No need to reset anything. Just put the new battery in as long as it is the same fob that came with the bike.
There is a way to turn on the AK if that is needed while waiting to get a new battery. Place the AK logo molded into the rubber fob cover (not the silver Kymco logo) over the concentric circle pattern on top the right glove box and the AK comes to life. If the battery is still good in the fob then the AK system will not turn on this way but if the fob battery is dead it will. BTDT. Both my fob batteries died about the same time. The fob is always on and the battery seems to last only 9-12 months regardless if used on the bike or not. My Rav4 is the same way since that also uses a keyless start fob.

In fact, I keep my spare fob in the storage box under the seat with no battery installed in it since I can turn on the AK without the battery.

Thanks, new CR2450 in the fob, works like new, can't believe they go dead that fast, I will have to keep my spare with the battery removed, I might also keep a spare battery in one of the glove boxes

Anyone else think Keyless Fob sounds like a Monty Python insult?🙃

Yes it really does, thanks for adding that one to my vocabulary.

Keep in mind, the younger generation, does not know who Monty Python is.

Actually no. My mind doesn't work like that.  ;)

My 2014 Hyundi has most of the keyless tech, and works fine for me. I do wish it had a back up camera also.  Seem to have most of my close calls in some tight busy parking lots.

Brit humor has never been my thing, every time I ever started to watch Holy Grail, I fell asleep 10 minutes in, maybe more, can't even remember other movie titles but I know I've maybe watched them all the way thru, they just aren't memorable to me

Should be WHAT Monty Python is.    ;)

That's a shame.  What about Life of Brian though?  Surely that one?

Cleese is launching a stage version in London next year.  Think I'll try and get to that and join in with some of the lines!

My X360, now 9 months old, has the same set-up - no way to turn the fob off and there is the same glovebox marking.  So thanks all for the advice and hopefully I'll be ready when the current one dies.

Even my 2015 Toyota Rav4 has the same feature should the fob battery die. BTDT
I simply hold the Toyota logo on the fob up to the start button on the dash and the car turns on. The only reason there is a pull out key on that fob is for the doors.

And now for something completely different!

And what is that?

I think you forgot to include in your post what it is.

Think that was another Monty Payton reference which just sailed over your head Bob. 🤣
