Hitches - What do you use? 450i
« on: August 13, 2018, 09:24:46 PM »
Wanted to consult those who may have already figured it out or have a favorite from personal experience. Don't have any in-stores and will have to order online, hence the forum ask.

What do you guys use for the 450i hitches? Any clearance issues? Looking to have the 2" ball and pin mount to move trailers & various food-plot implements.

Two I'm looking at but open to others.

I use the Kolpin hitch you have a link to, my little Toe Hoe is 990 lbs, goes on the 2" ball

my Otter sled uses the pin hitch, I drop a cotton gin spindle in for a pin (not something everyone has hanging around, but works perfect)

this is close to 1000 lbs of wood in the sled

using my tire set with Trygg chains

amazing what these little workhorses can pull,  I also hook 2 choker chains together and just hook a slip hook (3/8 chain) around the base of the ball and have pulled tree length logs up to 18"dbh and 60 feet long

a 5/16 chain slip hook won't quite fit around the ball, if I'm using that chain, I just make a loop with the grab hook end and loop it over the ball

That's impressive. Specs say shes rated to tow 1,200lbs w/ a dry weight of 1,157lbs. I got some downed trees I got a little lazy with after de-limbing. May have to give her a workout once they dry out a bit more.
Thank you for your pictures. The koplin had some reviews of it snapping & buckling. Granted those are online reviews but seeing your images of what you were towing and not exactly on flat ground alleviated that for me.

I cannot imagine how anyone snapped or buckled that hitch, I envision the receiver breaking off the Kymco frame first.

I have snapped the bottom inch or so off my cotton gin spindle (from snagging a rock while towing) that I use as a hitch pin, but still more than long enuf  to work, that is really closest I have come to dragging the hitch

6516531796.htmlI have a varity of hitch inserts for various applications. I have collected them over the years from various towing needs and vehicles. All are made for a 2" reciever so I can adapt to most any situation.

I forgot to mention, I have one like the Curt as well, with a 1-7/8 ball,  I've used it once with a little home made (by someone else) 4x8 trailer I have, I over loaded it once (not behind the UXV) with about twice as much weight as it probably should have on it during mud season, the tongue is twisted. I will probably fix it by cutting off the 1-7/8 " hitch and welding on a 2" .. been so long since I used the Curt type, I forgot I had it, I bought it at Tractor Supply

I picked up the 1-7/8 in. & 2 in. Double Ball Hitch from harbor freight.  Item #94900.  It was only $20 before coupon.
