OK....this has been an ongoing problem for the last two months or so.   I completely die.  She won't even turn over.    I replaced the battery, I took it up to my mechanic and they replaced the rectifier.  I've replaced the spark plug.

She run fine for a few days....then die.   Start right up after sitting for a day or two.  Go a week without issue.

Frankly I'm stumped.  I got to have a short somewhere.....but where? :-[

For me it's more about the roads that you ride.   For example, I have to work in the city but I live in the country.  I can take a variety of roads in and out of work but the speeds on these roads is 45 to 55 MPH (72 to 89 KPH).  For me, anything below a 125cc bike isn't going to work, and remember that your speedo might be 10% off as well.

Even that is questionable...after all, where I live at least, the speed limit is more of a suggestion.

A biker is invisible to begin with.  If we are not able to at least keep up with the traffic around us then we are putting ourselves into even more danger.  You have to be comfortable with your ride, but I would suggest at least 125cc.  250cc is better.  I ride a Xciting 500 which suites all the roads I have around me - including highways.

Motorcycle safety riding classes are a given, as is ATTGATT.

I've been away from this forum to long.  Part of the issue was because my bike was down for over a month (stupid head gasket) and part of it was because I just was.

I'm back now...and hope to contribute again.  So....how's everyone doing?

Another option, although a bit pricey, is to find someone that can cut the seat to your butt.  By measurements and adjusting the seat accordingly you should have little issue.

I know of only one shop in the local area (Tampa, Florida, USA) that does that sort of work....so it's not that common.  But I've known riders that have had the same issue NOT have that problem afterward.

Great blog! Meant to say that a long time ago. Where in the Tampa area did you get your Kymco?

Karl

I bought it over in St Pete at West Coast Power sports.  That being said, I can not recommend them.  I've had lousy service from them since.

I'm surprised.  I have a Frogg Togg suit and never had an issue.  I love the damn thing.

I think that's a fair question.  I would not mind owning a tee shirt or two.

Roadcraft / Re: Lane Splitting
« on: January 21, 2015, 12:25:16 PM »
Thankfully, I'm in state that allows lane splitting, and do exercise this privelage from time to time. These days, lanesplitting is quite common. Unless one rides a motorcycle or scooter, cagers will never understand the benefits of allowing motor bikes to filter through traffic, "when done safely, and follow the rules". Just like bad car drivers, there are riders who set a bad example of others. My point is, Ride responsibly goes a long way.

Which was the point that I was trying to make.  We have to ride responsibly.  The only state that allows land splitting currently is California.

How many times have we see drivers switch lanes suddenly without looking.  How many times have we heard "I didn't see him/her!"  How many times have we seen riders zipping down the road sans protective gear and over the speed limit?

The road is a dangerous place and we bikers need to do more to educate the public.  We also need to obey the rules of the road.

Lets be honest, we have all done it.

That being said, I could see it under very limited circumstances.  Generally speaking however if we bikers do not obey the rules of the road as they are now; getting something changed that would benefit us is hypocritical of us.

I'm on the "no lane splitting" side.
