Less rollers.... It should sound like a Skill Saw
..i put in the 7 grams that came with the pipe yesterday...that got me up into the 7500 range right after initial take-off...which stalls considerably..
..gonna install a nakaku torque driver and driven pulley along with my stage6 mkII clutch this afternoon...see if i can get rid of that stall...
..running a 98 main jet, and a 40 pilot..having to run the pilot screw @ 4 turns open to reduce sputter at take-off...
..once i'm past that stall, and into the powerband, nina takes off like a rocket! ...runs 60 indicated on even the smallest of hills...
-
...been stupid..struggling with lil sis carb...reluctant to tackle the unadjustable needle of this oem carb...however..started with this...
-
..it was this thick..
-
..it needs to go under this...
-
..did some of this..as well of a bunch of filing on the washer...
-
..gotta get away from this..and the 120 mj...
-
..thinned it quite nicely...
-
..umm..it was easy!....
-
...nice fit...
-
..reduced washer o.d. to fit the recess, as well..oh yeah..i got this...
-
..results of tonight's trials..yup..headed right now...initial "sputter" could be reduced by CLOSING pilot screw...top end became rich..
..gonna reduce pj and mj...should be right on then...
..liking this technigas pipe and malossi filter now!!....finally.....
-
Damnitt man, you was busy with that carb.... :D
-
Damnitt man, you was busy with that carb.... :D
..45 minutes...lol..
-
...then i started filing...lmao..
-
I have said it 100 times....
YOU iz da man... ;D ;)
-
..it's working...just needs a lil more tweaking...
..i'm probably going to wind up with 115 main and whater works with the pilot...
-
I was about dumb founded with my carb today untill the break down, now that's got my discombobulated.. :D
-
They are a pain...
-
...dammit man..i hate th fuk that happened...
-
They are a pain...
AMEN to that.... ;D
I do love the sucking sound.... You can hear these 24's sucking air. even with the pipe.. :D ;)
-
You can hear these 24's sucking air.
..yeah, that usually means i need to get up and head to th fridge...lmao!!
..umm...sorry bro...

...wwwwaaaaahhh up the bigger hill...
-
LMAO...
That b the one...LOL
-
...well, hell..following all this, i went ahead and raised th needle a total of .025"...
..still have to run the pilot damn near 5 rounds counter to keep from sputter after idle takeoff...
..with a 120 keihin main and a 42 pilot...
..somethings wrong in this carb..gotta be....
-
Is yours an air screw (near intake) or a fuel screw (near filter)
-
I just blew the torque drive today. Why the F did I start tuning? I forget...
-
Is yours an air screw (near intake) or a fuel screw (near filter)
...what??....
../the screw that adjusts the float is to the filter...air screew??
..the smaller screw, toward the reeds, is the fuel??
yes??..no??...
-
I just blew the torque drive today. Why the F did I start tuning? I forget...
..now how th hell u did that??
-
Watchu Smokin' Slinger...
The smaller screw is the idle mix screw. The larger controls the slide stop, or Idle speed. Since yours is on the reed side it is a FUEL control screw. As you have it 5 out it shows your Pilot jet is too small. That will cause the rest to run lean.
Go up on the pilot, and try to get the mix screw to 2 1/2 turns. The rest will fall in line.
I blew the drive trying to hit 75 on a long straight along the coast. I got 74 in a tuck, and when I let off the drive never closed. Sort of stays in High gear all the time now. I'll have to ride it in to the shop , and fix it during the rest of the stuff I have to do. This was to show a buyer too. He SAYS he will take it once I replace the drive. (I wouldn't let HIM test it wide open) so I had them clock me on Hwy 98. I HOPE This is the last of it! New Ape here I come...
-

...im already up to a 42 pilot jet...
..reckon that aint even enough??..technigas NEXT pipe and malossi air filter installed..
..was under impression that pilot was excessive big already..no??
..this is my fuel mix screw even now...
-
That screw controls how much fuel is drawn thru the jet. You do need to go bigger. I had a 47 pilot in the Malossi kit that I still had to ream out.
The air filter is mostly the reason. There is LESS vacuum on the jet so it needs to be larger to flow right.
Every size up will close the screw about 1 turn so try around 45
-
..only time i ever locked a td was on that ncy kit i got for the 08 a50...but it wasnn't machined right...
-

..but this is an oem 49.5cc engine...
-
I just looked again at the carb. I fixed one today on a child size 50cc quad. The OEM jet in it is a 40, and it ran well at 1 1/2 turns out. This one had an adjustable needle on the main but same carb. (with a screw on cap)?
-
...screw on cap..and oem pilot was a 35...
-
The cc's don't matter this time. It is in the flow in vs flow out. You improved the breathing so you have to improve the drinking... SPEAKING of which.
-
..and i raised the needle .025"...
-

It's got 45,000 on it so It don't owe me anything. I don't know exactly what/why happened yet. Just have no lower gears. Pretty sure its the td
-

..yeah...lmao..that too...
:o
-
The cc's don't matter this time. It is in the flow in vs flow out
..okay..gonna go bigger on th pj...
-
Raising the needle will compensate some but not much for the idle circuit. The idle must be right to get the rest. The larger idle jet will allow that extra fuel in with the main charge. If it is too small it throws off the rest
-

..yeah..my oem tds are junk...why i went to naraku...
-
..okay..gonna go bigger on th pj...
And I'm going drinking...
-
...been there already...happy hour starts early around here!!!...
-
...this ain't working...
..i'm really becoming baffled...
..went to a drilled 46 pilot..Reacted exactly the same!!
???
-
to 46, and the same screw setting? NO difference?
-
Is that the OEM 17mm? I have a Delortto 19 that I use to test engines. You wanna try it to see if that improves your set up? You may be at the limit of the 17mm
-
...actually, i believe it to be 16...
..says PB16 Keihin...
..dammit...this really blows...pretty sure carb is okay..not blocked...cleaned several times, and it ran fine oem..
..you might be right, z...i'm still learning, but it kinda makes sense...
-
...imma bout ready to ship it to th' TSG....
;)
-
Surrounded by quitters. Take any bigger carb, and replace that one. You can cut off the bolt mount and grind it (intake manifold)for a rubber coupling so fitting any old carb is easy. That's your problem. SCUBA with a straw.
-
...i dont wanna fuk up this 2500km engine....
..i'm skeered..
..got a terrible 2t track record...
:-\
-
Trust me... You'll F' it up trying it that way. Go back to the air box but tweak it up (airbox), and your carb will be fine to 55mph-ish. If you want more speed you have to modify the intake, and carb to work with an open type filter. Trust me!
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xki-Hqpm6o (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3xki-Hqpm6o#)
-
...dang...all i'm doing is putting a technigas next and a free-flow filter on a 2004 s9lc...
..where it not working??
-
...sh**...okay...i'll put the box back on....
-
...reckon imma get me a delorto...
..got any links?
-
The carb is toooooooo smmmmmaaaaaallllllll!
Imagine your engine trying to suck air thru a straw... That's why. The intake works fine up to 20mm but suffers after that. You could get 65 with the stock intake (modified), and a 19-20mm carb/open filter.
Your 16mm gets more efficient vacuum WITH the air box but cant supply enough mix to hit more power. More mix = more power.

...got it!....
..bertha rides while i buy bits for nina...
..kymmi waiting in th' wings....
-
...meeeanwhillle...back at th' hall ov justiccce...
..since imma ride bertha..(big sis) daily, for a while, thot i'd open her cvt, and make the commute a bit more enjoyable...
..yannked out every oem bit...cause she was all oem...
..put in a naraku vari and drive face...oem 8.5 rollers..likes heavy...
..gates premium 743-20-30 belt..naraku driven face assembly, naraku racing type torque driver and bell..all driven by a malossi blue (1500) contra...
..stage6 MKII adjustable clutch...(me likes that clutch)..adjusted very lite, with heavier orange springs and all 9 wts...
..i swear, with a lil practice, that front wheel gonna hang in the air when i want it to...
..so far, fast as ive ridden bert is 60 indicated @9000 rpms...more left to give...
:o
josh got this engine tuned well...now its my turn!!!
-
You hit 60 with stock intake/exhaust? Sorry, just curious. 60mph at 9,000rpm is my goal.
-
..bertha has a 70cc to end..
..but i can also run 60 on my other oem s9...
..743 belt with unrestricted driven pulleys is the key...
-
..bertha has a 70cc to end..

Can you list what you did to ur stock scoot to hit 60? I do 50 at 9,000rpm right now, would love to pull another 10mph out of her. I have a 2002 S9 LC, unrestricted. Thanks!
-
..743 belt and unrestricted driven pulleys(naraku)..malossi blue 1500 contra and a malossi delta clutch...
..oem variator and roller weights(8.5g)
-
Any recommendation where to buy? Google pulls up too many sites.....
-
..i usually buy all my upgrade bits a Racingplanetusa.com
..they might be somewht higher on some things, but it's free shipping over 99 bucks...
-
OK, thanks. So the oem roller weights in the scoot now are 8.5? Cant find that 743 belt on that site either.... I'll keep looking. Do i need to replace clutch springs also? Sorry soo many questions, never worked on a cvt tranny before. I also need a new air filter..... any recommendation(stay with stock box, or cone, k&n)? Thanks again.
-
..i'd stay with the stock airbox...unless you want to get into a bunch of head-aches..these s9s gotta good strong engine without screwing around with the air..
..stadiumyamaha.com for oem parts..
..i got that belt from scootertronics.com ....i've had some good and very bad experiences there..should be alright just getting the belt, tho...
..you can roll fine with oem clutch springs ,they effect take-off timing mostly.. but i do suggest getting a 1500 main counter-balance spring..some call it a contra..torque spring..
..and for you to comfortably get top end speed, you MUST HAVE a unrestricted set of driven pulleys..cant really run the 743-20-30 belt with restricted pulleys..it'll cause the belt to over-ride the variator and drive face...
..and dude..dont sweat the questions......it's why we all here..we all have so many to ask...
;)
peace
-
..thot this was sorta interesting...
-
..ive never had this happen before...you??....
-
..belt gettin out there nicely...
;)
-
..th cvt...
-
..the key...
-
..fits like this....
-
..aannnd this...
-
..this MKII is th' bomb!!
-
..gonna try some 7.5g ninja sliders....gently used...lol...
-
..in this naraku variator..
..beginning to like this vari.... 8)
-
...this is a pretty frikin good setup for bertha!!!....
..i have some unused malossi 7.0 gram rollers that i believe will finalize...
...front wheel gonna rise!.....
..yeee-haaaa!!!
:o
-
Hey wordslinger, you wouldnt happen to be in south florida would you? Wanna make a few $$? lol
-
..lol..nope, i'm in nc...
..zombie lives in th sunshine state!!
-
Does our scoots come with 8.5 gram roller weights? Or should I upgrade? Just wanna do 60+ at 9k rpm or less on a stock unrestricted scoot....
-
Yo Slinger. Just catching up. The pict of the melted fan is from slipping. I've used crazy glue to stick them together. You are lucky it didnt melt thru, and loosen the crank nut.
-
Yo Slinger. Just catching up. The pict of the melted fan is from slipping. I've used crazy glue to stick them together. You are lucky it didnt melt thru, and loosen the crank nut.
..that wass after a 30 mile run...
..naraku aluminum drive face is somewhat thicker than oem...
..fin edges rubbed casing ever so slightly...
..it all peeled right off..
..wowww...
-
You are lucky it didnt melt thru, and loosen the crank nut.
..actually, on my scoots...the crank nut secures a flat-washer..to the kick-start gear..which does hold the fan...by means of the extensions...but that splined fan holder tightens up nicely against the drive face.....
:o
-
..im processing a bertha youtube vid...
..taped my lil nikon to the front of my helmet...lmao..
..okay...sound sucks..this was my first attempt with this cam...
..the last half of the vid was all uphill....

Does our scoots come with 8.5 gram roller weights? Or should I upgrade? Just wanna do 60+ at 9k rpm or less on a stock unrestricted scoot....
.....
..60+ downhill can happen pretty easily...
..you might be content with 50 on the flats and up slight hills??
..every scoot tunes different
-
I already do 50 on flats..... well 48-51 anyway. Just wanted to squeeze 10mph while staying around 9000 rpm without a major overhaul.
-
..bertha will usually average 52 or more on flats..
..rarely drops much below 50..even uphill...
..i've seen 65 downhill with the oem rollers...@ 9500
..don't think the 7.5 sliders are going to get that tho..
-
So, will the mods u listed previously get me to 60...ish? unrestricted pulley, belt, etc....
-
...good possibility...again, every scoot is different...
..but if you're already doing 50 with restricted pulleys, i'd think it'll be no problem!!
-
I know I have stock pulleys, but has been derestricted. Is that not the same thing? Again, thanks for ur info!
-
..top pic is of a restricted pulley...my oem pulley...
..bottom pic is of a unresticted set of pulleys...

..all nice and clean tho...
;D

Your drive face is slipping while the fan is spinning with the crank. Try hitting the end of the boss, and the area of the face that contacts the boss with a piece of 60 grit sand paper. Just enough to create rough surfaces to "grab". A dab of green lok Tite on the mating surface may help too.
Crazy that they spline the fan, and NOT the drive face.
Try the ZX face. It is splined. No need for the fan then either.
-
..the lesson i learned here...today...
..dont overlook the dumb sh**...
-
It's the dumb sh** that piles up till you die. ALWAYS something...
-
...drive face did not slip...very tight...just like i left it....
..face is splined, as well as the fan retainer...
..no cooling air getting to cvt...
:-\
-
...aannnd, since had the variator open and clean...i put in the 7g malossi rollers...
..those dirty sliders were 7.5...
...so far, me likey!!...
::)
-
Dam, you weren't bull jiving... Thats messed up there.
Gonna have to get some holes put in that cover. ;)
-
...aint that some crazy chit!!
..i repaired the air tubing...ran hard today...no melting...
;D
yaayy!!...
-
..i've slipped twice on this hidenau, on wet pavement...
..given, that bertha has 37,000 kms on her frame and suspension...
-
...never, on any scoot i've run it on, has the viper stryke slipped...
..ever....
...waaay less expensive....
;)

You'd be Surprised who some of these people are! Some are pretty "famous" at what they do. ;)
-
I agree with Slinger on the Avons. Mine Never slipped. So far the Pirellis are good but I do see more wear on the rear Already. It's maybe 2 months old? It could be an alignment problem from Xtending it do I'm rebuilding the kit I made a bit better.
Point is The Avons Are Good.
-
..they last forever too!!!!
-
+1 on the Avons...great tires! Never slipped...knock on wood
On my 2nd rear one...

seeing what ridiculous SH!T you guys are getting into now
:o
WHO......UUUUSSSSSSS????? ::) ;D
-
The K61 is the "Racer" type tire. They make lots of different ones with various tread patterns. I hate to hear that it slipped on you. I use 'em on my scooters and love 'em to death - better than Michilen or Pirelli. I haven't ridden in the rain lately though.
By the way, I found the original head for that cylinder when I was getting some parts out of my truck. Want me to drop it in the mail someday?
Ciao,
~Josh
-
ridiculous
That's the second time I've seen this word.... Redyiumouclause. (I deleted spell check for arguing with me)
-
I hate to hear that it slipped on you.
..yeah, once was on a new sheets store parking lot...
..i chalked that up to new concrete finish, but the second was on th road, just after a good rain...
..just looking at the two tire pics, the avon has more corner tread...might be the key to that...
..heyy yeah!..drop it in!!..btw, do you remember th s9 running kinda hot?...water pump gets pretty hot to touch, even after say, 5 miles...
...my other nine runs much cooler...
-
Check for a bad thermostat/kinked hose/clogged radiator. If the pump is hot it usually means a restriction. Bad pump bearings will do it to
-
..well, i removed the thermostat, and, while doing so, saw that i got flow thru everything...
...filled the radiator, then started engine...used another cup of coolant after starting...
..josh rebuilt this pump not long ago, when he built th scoot...so i'm sure it's got flow...
..i can fill fluid flowing when i squeeze the hose going into the top of the radiator...
-
Is the cylinder base about the same temp. as the pump housing? It may just be the scoot.
If the pump is hotter you may still have a bad bearing. I don't think they are lubed. Maybe a sealed bearing would be best?
-
...yeah, its all about the same...just way hotter than my 50cc...maybe its because itsa 70?...
-
That would be MY guess. More mass = more friction. That's a new top end?
Maybe a couple old computer type fans on the back of the radiator pulling air...
-
...yeah, got this from areomyst...he documented with pics all he did to it...
..prima 70cc with port mods, per j....
..runs like a scalded dog!!..seemed cooler back inn the recent days, but then, the ambient temps are warmer now...
-
Maybe air trapped in the top of the Jug? Maybe just one size too lean? After break in they will rev free needing more fuel. If it's mainly the pump tho I would think bearing.
-
..josh rebuilt the water pump as well...
..i may go up a jet, just to see if its cooler... but plug looks gooood...
..br8hs plug...
-
Even New bearings can be bad. Give him a call for advice.
-
..yeah, figured i'd hit him up 2moro...
-
You can drop down to a BR9HS plug. It is going to be hotter, because the Prima cylinder uses pretty much the same size water jacket as the 50cc cylinder, with a bore that's bigger. Also the high compression ratio makes it run warmer. You could swap the cylinder heads (not the whole cylinder, just the head) and you'll probably notice cooler running.
Can't be as bad as the Rotax engine in a Scarabeo 150 that I have in at the moment... got so hot it melted the dipstick, water pump impeller, and even started working on the timing chain guides. Heh.
~Josh
-
..thanx josh, i had thot that the 9 plug might be better...
..it's just that i ride this girl for long stretches..
..and with what you aready said about those primas...being basically oem bored-out, i figured that might be th case..
..warmer weather is making things a bit hotter...probly have to order that ngk9....
-
How about a fan? Maybe computer parts, or something from a Honda maybe? Or drilling the shroud for more air flow?
Are you guys talking about adding a wc head? Sooo many questions... Soooo little time.
-
Are you guys talking about adding a wc head? Sooo many questions... Soooo little time.
Bertha is already W.C. ;)
that one has a bbk with a modded/bored oem head
OEM pipe....carb
Speaking of which... I found a Naraku bbk cheap but w/o the head... i wondered how that would work out using a regular W.C oem head..(that would get my s9 back up ;), still no word from Rage on the bbk he was selling........sobbing.. :'()
I know Shaka had the oem head on his zx at one time, of course it's A.C
-
The only issue is using an ac head you have to use a plate to seal the wc jug.
Or I guess you mean an ac S9!
-
I know Shaka had the oem head on his zx at one time, of course it's A.C
I did...that was the first Airsal BBK I had on the ZX. The domed piston with that kit is machined flat around the edge so the piston doesn't hit the oem head at TDC. It worked great after I made the base spacer to give me the correct durations/squish.
-
Or I guess you mean an ac S9
Na, Bertha is L.C..
She had a oem l.c head, bored out to 47mm combustion chamber from the oem 39.
Mine WAS L.C. :D
Poor thing dead beside the z. :'( :'( :'( :'(
I found a oem l.c head in canada(1/2 $ from new) and that Naraku kit would fix mine. Wouldn't be a malossi kit. :'( :-\ But she'd run again. ;)
-
Hey Shaka..
Yeah i remember you had good sucsess with that set.
-
I just saw a flash of the dead... Kits. All the dozens of fallen kits. Here's to the Fallen Kits! HIP HIP
-
..riddle me this, cause it seems i heard someone say it...
..relative excess 2t oil simulates or creates a "lean" fuel mix condition??
???
-
YES. It actually takes up room in the jets that fuel should be going thru. It Dilutes the fuel as it were. Jetting IS dependent on fuel/oil ratio. Change the ratio, and you need to re jet...
-
..okay, it's making sense..because i noticed today, that my oil pump was indexing half a V distance past the "V"....
..dont know when that happened..dont remember putting it there
..bud light??
..this is on nina, the 50cc that i tried th tech NEXT, Malossi upgrade...
..back to oem pipe, with the malossi filter...
..38 pj, 117 mj, needle raised .025"...after retarding oil index, i was able to get actual "brown" plug readings..
..i'm such a 2t noob..........
-
Wait till you get exhaust leaks, or Case leaks. You'll be fattening jets every day till... pow! I never saw the cracks in the JW Euro pipe till the piston melted, and the pipe was off...
-
..38 pj, 117 mj, needle raised .025"...after retarding oil index, i was able to get actual "brown" plug readings..
..winning!...
-
Is this the one that had those gooey deposits in the plug?
-
yes...not there any more, after getting the oil feed right...
...i ride nina every day...she's a work-horse!!!
-
That's great... I didn't mean to piss in your oil!
-
..i had just started using amsoil...switched over to it, and that might have contributed...i dunno, but i did a good, thorough clean-out during the change...
...but, she's screaming right now..really loving 80+ degree weather....
..setup is: malossi filter, oem carb with 38 pilot (slightly large)..117 main..needle raised .025"...oil indexed spot-on the V at hard throttle pull..br8hs plug, indexed at 7:00 (close).. ..naraku vari and drive face, with 6.5 ninja sliders and a 1.475" boss..743-20-30 gates premium belt..naraku driven face and torque driver with a malossi 1500 contra and delta clutch, yet unadjusted from oem...
..oem exhaust..
..still got that technigas NEXT i want to get worked out on this girl...
..very slight stall, not unbearable, goes away when hotter..but rolls off line pretty quick..strong thru mid throttle/acceleration, and my speedometer usually stops around 56 indicated, @ 8000 rpms,, but it picks up even after that downhill, up to 8200 rpms......no less than 45 up big hills...
..i love it!!..just wanting to run that pipe now...
..using amsoil lubes throughout, and gripping with avon viper strykes....
-
Dialed!
-
Dialed!
..yup!!!!
;D
..i finally did it!!!...to a 2t!!!
...yaaay for me!!!
...now, for that pipe...........
-
What pipe?
-
..i have a technigas NEXT pipe that i couldnt get dialed in, and am now pretty sure that it was due to my excessive oil pump index setting....
-
There apparently is an issue with the S9 cdi's where it hits a wall at the same rpm's that most pipes require. There is some discussion right now on Scoot Inv about it. It's a thread called ?? cdi. I'd tune into that one. You may never be able to get it right with an OEM cdi. I think J has found a Mina cdi that works better. It's all in the on going thread.
-
...i was hitting powerband around 8500-9000 rpms...
..my issue was idle and just off...
..i could never stop bogging at take-off...top end screamed!!...
..i'll log in over there and check that out inna minute...
-
..whats left of the 743-20-30 belt...after..what, 2000 miles??
-
..cracks..
-
...running a oem bando, now, and it's not so bad!!!
...i bought a "longer than oem 729" belt to try onnit tomorrow, and another 743....
..i so liked that 743...
..belts are consumables....
...like fuel and amsoil....
;)

I've got some CRAZY learning curve happing right now. Just like back in the day when I compared a string on a spoon to a pencil on on the same string. The CVT is opening it's doors to me. Without getting all nuts on the topic... The belt wear is a symptom of an imbalance of HP/Torque vs load on the rear wheel. Just like tuning a STOCK scoot for better Perf. WE have to find the magic ratio of HP/rpm/mph/realistic belt capacity. I'm thinking this forum has opened a door that even the TOP tuners don't see. Belt wear CAN be eliminated. (crazy right) We are tuning to a point where more HP = more stress. I think it should be the other way around. More HP = better better belt wear, (right)!
Soooo Making CRAZY high gears makes less rpms. Less rpm's makes less stress, and more usable top end. So using taller gears will allow the engine to rev slower, and reduce the belt wear. Sorta like a Salt flats bike that is geared to 200+mph. and can't do a wheelie to save it's life. Scoots are like a dirt bike in reverse. I rode MX ALL my life, and pulling power was king. I have hit a wall with pulling power in scoots. They need to be reversed. NO PULLING POWER IS NEEDED. Make them TOP GEAR machines. This may take machining gears we don't have yet but I do know a few guys that can make the gears we need. F*ck Polinni, and Malossi, and Every other maker of "race parts". I think if enough time is spent away from the "cookie cutter" parts makers a new door will open. I am aiming for a 6.7:1 final drive with the Polini Corsa. That is another "cookie cutter" bike. I don't like the idea any more than buying a Ruima on Ebay. It's the SAME OLD sh**! But Maybe with a 2.5:1 ratio and a Bando belt hooked up to a pulley drive there may be a 100mph scoot in the near future.
I know this did NOT answer your question/statement about your belt wear but it might open another door that will. I blew thru 3 Vars/4-5belts on the Ruima. It did not impress me as a World class scoot although it may well have been. I got the Polinni Corsa R jug today, and it is a tiny POS in MY opinion. Nothing better than th Malossi as far as size. The Port timing is of course different, as is the angle of the port roofs but the cc's are the same, and the quality of the delivered product is similar.
Bottom line is I believe the WHOLE key is in CVT tuning more so than jug kits.
I'm setting the jug on a standard stroke crank/Jassil var/Naraku TD-clutch/Malossi bell. The final drive is 6.8:1 with the gears I have, It should do 70ish air cooled, but for how long? I'm thinking 80+ with some custrom geras, and a TRUE 65criuse. We'll see.
To answer your post... The torque/contra/roller weight is eating your belt.
-
...nina runs the speedo till it stops...@ 8100 rpms..60 indicated?....
..then continues on up to 8300 tops...downhill...
...but never falls below 45 ind....@ 7800 rpms...
....this is open air with oem exhaust...
..she's a beast!!... at 8100 rpms!!!
-
That's just a OEM Pussy bike. Hey. Nice song.... Halleys Comet. I'm in LUV with the forum. (and you guys...)
I leave the Music thread playing while posting... Gotta figure a way to make a mix of it for my Daughter to see what I do.
-
That's just a OEM Pussy bike. Hey. Nice song.... Halleys Comet. I'm in LUV with the forum. (and you guys...)
I leave the Music thread playing while posting...
...me too!!...and i got ur pussybike right here!!
-
It got's Poo on the tires. Maybe a little on the seat tooo...
-
..well, i put a new gates 729-17.5-28 in nina th day before yesterday, with an oem drive face...after all them trials and tribulations..
..that, "narrow" gates belt, with the 1.504" boss that i was running with the 743, well that just wasnt working...
..over-revved past my powerband during take-off acceleration, and half-way thru to top speed...lost torque..
..put inna 1.465 boss, and when this belt seats in, i believe nina's right back on track...
..ffeeellls real good right now, and only 2mph off top speeds...still got good torque throughout...
...i like torque..i like being able to back off throttle, from any speed or throttle position, then get back onnit, and feel acceleration...
:o
-
Same here I prefer torque to top speed. I think it's cause we commute, not drag...
-
...SOMETIMES, I JUST GOTTA GET OUTTA TH WAY!!!....
...yup...top speed will come with a good torquey setup...
-
8)
-
...the 729 belt has required a bit more tweaking, so it has...
got 10 heat cycles innit now, so i figure its probably seated okay..
..the 6g ninja sliders have proven to be a bit too light..over-revving my take-off powerband..
..tried some 7g malossi rollers, and she lost a bit of torque @ mid-range, and up hills...
..fixin' to make a run with 6.5 ninjas....
-
...one thing that has not changed is my top speed...
..it's still right on 60-61 indicated...
..now, this 729 does not ride all the way out the variator...1/16"....
..what's that telling me??
..743 and 729 produce same top speed, with 743 over-riding vari, and 729 coming up waay short...
-
Speak to me brother......
Show me the way......
:D :D
-
..yup..i'm liking the 6.5s.....
..awesome strong torque throughout...
...ranges from 7600-8100 throughout...
..that seems to be nina's g-spot....
..i trounced an Aprilla on the way home with this setup...
..that always feels ssso goood.....
-
There is a huge difference between those two sizes. Just find the one in the middle.
-
..beware cheap rollers...had 3 jammed in the ramps...
-
..beware cheap rollers...
No worries here.....Malossi baaabbbyyy... :D :D :D
-
..they were an experiment....obviously, didnt work...lmao...
...i'm becoming partial to Ninja sliders...
-
...i'm becoming partial to Ninja sliders...
Hadn't even "went there" yet... :D
-
..they half th price of dr pulleys, and...dang..they perform better than even malossi rollers.....so far....
-
Oh i was talking about sliders in general.. :D
-
...there issa difference between slider and roller performance..
..in my experience, sliders are "slicker"....
:o
-
I like them in a 4t MUCH better than a 2t. They hold lower gear longer.
-
..aint it cute...
..tire pumper...lol..
-
I got one of doze..... :D
Mine don't have the nice cover though..
A H.F. special...pancake air compressor
BTW.... Yes it is sooooooooo cute.... :D
-
...imma take nina to the carrabelle blow-out...
..imma tune to the tech pipe before we go...
-
..imma tune
Must be nice to have the touch 8) :'( :'(
:-X :-X
:o :D ::)
-
I have most of the goods you would ever need for the cvt. Plus a few Zombie tricks...
Carrabelle Blow Out!!! Nice ring to that! You just might want to bring two scoots... Just to keep the Law guessing. I paint/change themes/change boddies all the tyime. People hear think I have hundreds of scoots. It's really just 2 with 3 different engines, and 3 different bodies.
Just mix them up, and keep people guessing.
-
..if we cant fill the trailer, i might bring bertha too...

..remember, i already tried that setup once...wasnt working then, due to too much oi.l......i think...
Gotta be... I have the pipe on and i think its a tad rich but the open filter killed it..
-
It will run cooler with the airbox too. I really hate the tone of the next pipe on mine. Like a constant fire cracker sound.
-
..i like that cow-sound.....
..especially at 8500 rpms...lol..
..but she sure did scream nicely at 9800..that was during mi pipe experiment..
..top end was awesome, but i hadn't modded the needle then, and i was injecting waay too much oil..
..my problem was clean idle and sputtering at initial take-off...after she got up and running, she was awesome!!
-
Can you measure your needle length, and top diameter? Treatland has an awesome deal on needles for the OKO's that may work in your carb. I will measure one to compare.
-
..umm, yeah, i could measure...
..but i aint tearing that carb down to do so..lol..
..she running too well to fuk wit right now....
..729-17.5-28 gates..37.45mm boss...5.7gram sliders...jumping to 7900 at takeoff, and holding there till she rolls into 50+mph...
..best i've had this cvt set up in its powerband yet....
..the bando produced @8100_8200 throughout...i could feel the torque loss as she passed 8000..
...it was hard to find a combo that settled at 7900...
-
..my problem was clean idle and sputtering at initial take-off...after she got up and running, she was awesome!!
I have that NOW.. ::)
..729-17.5-28 gates..37.45mm boss...5.7gram sliders
I went and re-tested mine.. The 5.7 rollers fall out w/my set-up. 5.1 seems to be the sh** but at TOP, she seems to revvy?...could be wrong but just seems... 5.25- 5.5g??
..but she sure did scream nicely at 9800..
Shhhhhit, that's ALL the time.. did hit 10,5-11 i know the other day....indicated anyway
-
I went and re-tested mine.. The 5.7 rollers fall out w/my set-up. 5.1 seems to be the sh** but at TOP, she seems to revvy?...could be wrong but just seems... 5.25- 5.5g??
I'd swap out the weights inside the rollers. I have a ton of cores from all weights. You can even drill some out of your 5.7's. You could add epoxy inside the light ones too. That's easier to drill back out too.
-
Oh For the bog... Try a fatter needle. It sounds like it'll run thru at rpm's but is too rich at lower... Fatter needle
-
..put on the technigas NEXT...
..125 main jet and 4.2 gram rollers....

I still am amazed at the 125mj, 4.2 rollers @ 9000 max..
Maybe Haze does need a jetting. ???
Nina is so quiet sounding in the vid IMO. My sh*t sounds like a very angry weed eater. ::) ;D
Resembles a dirt bike fo sho. ;D...........Loud pipes save lives.... ;D :D

Nice ride too!

..oem drive face and 38mm boss with a 729-17.5-28 cheap drive belt...

Batts... Theres your ancient Chinese secret. A pinch of this two of those, and lots of MSG. (Modified Scooter Gods). Just came up with the club name! MSG/SC
-
..nina's top-end, i'm happy with...
..never been quite satisfied with take-off lag...
..finally adjusted the delta clutch to the next setting off oem...
..me likey!!!!
:o
..vids to follow!!!
-
It took a steady month of playing with the Delta to get it where I liked it. I just bought the Stage six race so I have to start all over again
-
..i got a stage6 mkII...on bertha...
..awe-f***ing-some clutch!!!
-
http://www.racingplanetusa.com/clutch-stage6-racing-torque-control-mkii-peugeot-p-204-1.html?cPath=2_622_26516&sessID=83b5ebacf3bfc64c69f07d48e8ff86e9 (http://www.racingplanetusa.com/clutch-stage6-racing-torque-control-mkii-peugeot-p-204-1.html?cPath=2_622_26516&sessID=83b5ebacf3bfc64c69f07d48e8ff86e9)
This one...
How do you like it compared to the Malossi Delta?
-
I just noticed the price. I paid 76.989 for it five days ago. It's gone up 40 bucks since!
-
...i never tried it on nina, but i love it on the 70cc...
..the adjustments of the MKII are incremental, and i always use calipers for getting the 3 flys equally balanced...
..the malossi, which must be dis-assembled for adjustment, is more forgiving, in the sense that it has pre-set adjustments...
..still learning the delta, but i LOVE the stage6 adjustability...just takes more time to get all 3 equal...
-
This one...
..yup..that's it!!
-
the adjustments of the MKII are incremental, and i always use calipers for getting the 3 flys equally balanced...
could you explain more about that?
-
..yeah, the flys have little white hash marks that signify where it's adjusted tio...
..i found them hard to view, but maybe that's just my eyes.....so i use my digital calipers to measure inside-to-inside distance between the slots that the springs attach..
..i got pics...
-
And they adjust what? Spring weight/pull?
-
...the 3 button-head allen screwsd that are accessible around the perimeter, adjust fly stiffness, the mkII also comes with brass weights, that u can use to adjust how quickly the flys engage the bell...
-
..i could pull berthas front wheel very easily with soime tweaking...
..she already gets pretty light under the right conditions...
-
So with the two sets of included springs you get a very wide range of tuning options? Is there any need to get more spring sets?
I like my clutch to come in almost off idle. I'm going for top end speed more than quick take off. I almost don't need a clutch.
-
..orange are stiffer...one weight, just to have some in there....
-
..what you gonna run this in??
-
The WC ZX engine in the Vruk frame build. I figure I would set it up in the stroke Corsa engine first to try it out.
I am considering welding the bell to an old oem clutch for the corsa after that. If I get 90... You Know I Have to get 100. The Malossi is a great clutch but I want NEW stuff for all the new builds.
-
..plus, you have 3 different locations for the 9 weights for the flys...
..holy sh** batman, the options are many...
-
..its prolly the best clutch u could get for tuning adjustability...
..best i ever tried...
..ive heard good stuff about the dr pulley as well...
..thinking about one...
-
That's what I found in the Malossi. Some settings you couldn't tell a difference. That's the main reason for trying something different. I have the ZX plans done. The WC kit on the way, and like I said it's going in the Vruk frame for a daily around town driver/wheelie popper, and we are going to Tampa Saturday to scope out a 2010 SR Factory leftover selling for 2,200.00. That will be just to get me to town, and back.
I've been Emailing Allen Spears from motor scooter international land speed federation, about registering the ZX for qualifications. If I can get the bike qualified, and documented... It will help get the value up to what I put into it. If I get two certified radar runs above 90mph I'm in. That's why the airfield/local cops are involved.
-
..u gonna like that mkii
-
With all the scooter Gods lining up... You will be there to see all this. It sure aint Kansas Toto
-
..imma bring my camera...yeee....
-
A MUST have. There is toooooooooooo much to do here. One week is just the tip of the iceburg.
-
..nina's plug @ 250 miles...
..comments welcome...
..clik th pic...
-
I smell poo!
-
..wash your hand...
-
Naw... It actually looks pretty good! Maybe a bit too much oil still but oil is good. No real carbon... Maybe 1 step hotter on the plug?
-
..runnin ngk br8hs plug...
-
Maybe an HSA? Or the BR7HS... It wouldn't hurt to try.
I really like the HSA's better. No doubt.
-
..i have new hsa plugs on hand...
..used to run them...i'll give one a try...
-
Try keeping the old one to compare at 250 miles... I am very curious. The HSA's always make smoother power for me, and I'd like to see a side by side comparison.
-
..i just rebuilt nina's delta..
..set it's flys to the third, from second position, with the weights at least intrusive...
..cleaned and greased th torque driver, and boy!, its smooth...
..installed some dr pulley 4 gram sliders, from 4.2 gram cheapo roller...
..looking for 9500 maintained off the line...
-
...problem is this heat!!!
..she's trending rich in these 100+ days...
..still 91 on my front porch even now...
-
am i glad its nice and cool over here ;D
-
..well, now that's reeall nice... ;D
..jumps at 9500 and settles to 9000 throughout accelleration...
..coming out of a turn, she immediately throttles to 9000, no more lag when making a city street turn..really like that!...
..might go for some 4.5 grams with the delta in this positiion...imma ride it a cpl of days with this setup first...
-
..yeah..thatsa dang good setup...me likes it...
;D
..sso....lets take that naraku variator completely out of the picture, and in it's place, let's try a new malossi multivar...
..yeah, imma shelf the naraku, for an experiment...

..just put a dr pulley HiT clutch in nina today...
..initially, this is the strongest clutch i've ever ran...
-
How so...
-
..it really grabs and sets you on your way, as long as you get it dialed in, along with the rest of your setup...
...here's mine, on nina, and it's the most torquey setup, take-off thru top speed that i've ever been able to dial...
..all these bits are seated in by now, and i'm really liking the way she's performing...
..i'll start at the beginning..
..malossi air filter, oem carb with a 38pj and a 122 main and a redneck needle mod that raises it .025", ngk br8hs (not hsa) plug indexed to 7:00 (best i could get thisn), tecnigas next pipe( $75.00)
..using amsoil interceptor injected...
..malossi variator and drive boss with 6 gr dr pulley sliders, oem drive face..
..Gates BOOST premium 732-18.5-28 drive belt..
..naraku gy6 styled (unrestricted) driven pulley and torque driver, malossi blue 1500 contra..
..dr pulley HiT clutch set with 31kg clutch spring (next to stiffest) and 9.2kg pillow springs (stiffest)..
..with a warmed-up, hard throttle take-off, nina jumps at 8000 for about 1 second, then launches at 9200...
..maintains 9200 on a flat ground run up to 50 indicated...
..she will peg the speedo, and i mean peg against the side of the instrument panel @ 9800 on a downhill...
..never falls below 8300 up even my steepest hills...
..the best part is, that i can feel acceleration and torque throughout..and that makes riding this scoot ssso enjoyable...
8)
-
Sweet! I have a tear rolling down my cheek. It's been a long road my friend.
-
..getting into, and keeping in the powerband was the toughest thing i ever tried to do...
..finally, i've hit the right combination of bits!!
..sad thing is, i have brand new torque spring base and new oem a50 pulleys i bought for this...
..don't really wanna mess with her now tho!!
-
What is this plug index you speak of? Also, do you have a link for the redneck needle mod? What does that do exactly?
-
i have brand new torque spring base and new oem a50 pulleys i bought for this...
Did you ever check out that 2wheelpros.com? I had a great experience there..... got the a50 pulleys cheaper there loaded with all the bearings than yamaha for just the pulleys....
-
Also, do you have a link for the redneck needle mod? What does that do exactly?
..that would be at the very beginning of this thread, and it enrichens the fuel mix during mid-throttle, which is desirable when tuning to a free-flow filter and pipe...
-
got the a50 pulleys cheaper there loaded with all the bearings than yamaha for just the pulleys....
..are they "KYMCO?"..
..cause that's what i wanted to buy, not a "compatible" pulley set, but real OEM...

What is this plug index you speak of?
..that's where you get the opening of the plugs electrodes pointing directly toward the exhaust port, by adding shims...
..supposed to be better that way...
..somebody said it was better that way, so it must be!!
;D
-
got the a50 pulleys cheaper there loaded with all the bearings than yamaha for just the pulleys....
..are they "KYMCO?"..
..cause that's what i wanted to buy, not a "compatible" pulley set, but real OEM...
Yes... real Kymco. Most of the label is in chinese...lol Kymco labels and all. I was very happy to see all the bearings included. Thought that was a, oversight on the website. Even the belt is Kymco/bando belt. I can send pics if you need.....
-
..sure!...pics are gooood...

..sure!...pics are gooood...
Now u have to wait. Im at work..... but rest assured, all kymco OEM parts ;D

Sooo.... have the open end of the plug facing as close to 7:00 as possible?
-

...me too...lol..
..no, on the super 9, the exhaust port is at the "bottom", so 6 o'clock would be closer...
..i always mark my plug with a sharpie, across from the gap, and try to get the sharpie mark straight up on top...

Any trick to getting off the nut holding in the clutch? I already got off the variator nut. Been searching you tube.... .I dont have a air wrench. I saw someone do it by just holding the brake and a wrench...... that didnt work :(
-
Electric impact wrench from Harbor Freight. About $45
.....
Or, you could get one of these

Just got it off.... lol. Wife sitting on scoot holding brake, wrench from ground to hole in bell, quick slap of the hammer on wrench holding bolt and voila!

..nina goes hummmmmmmmmmmmm.........
-
Hahahhah :D
That's funny ;D
-
..it really grabs and sets you on your way, as long as you get it dialed in, along with the rest of your setup...
...here's mine, on nina, and it's the most torquey setup, take-off thru top speed that i've ever been able to dial...
..all these bits are seated in by now, and i'm really liking the way she's performing...
..i'll start at the beginning..
..malossi air filter, oem carb with a 38pj and a 122 main and a redneck needle mod that raises it .025", ngk br8hs (not hsa) plug indexed to 7:00 (best i could get thisn), tecnigas next pipe( $75.00)
..using amsoil interceptor injected...
..malossi variator and drive boss with 6 gr dr pulley sliders, oem drive face..
..Gates BOOST premium 732-18.5-28 drive belt..
..naraku gy6 styled (unrestricted) driven pulley and torque driver, malossi blue 1500 contra..
..dr pulley HiT clutch set with 31kg clutch spring (next to stiffest) and 9.2kg pillow springs (stiffest)..
..with a warmed-up, hard throttle take-off, nina jumps at 8000 for about 1 second, then launches at 9200...
..maintains 9200 on a flat ground run up to 50 indicated...
..she will peg the speedo, and i mean peg against the side of the instrument panel @ 9800 on a downhill...
..never falls below 8300 up even my steepest hills...
..the best part is, that i can feel acceleration and torque throughout..and that makes riding this scoot ssso enjoyable...

So word,
Are you still running this set up? Well with the exception of the belt change? I am looking to do much the same mods. You think the neddle mod was a must do? Did it change the mid a noticably?
I'd like to find a bargain on a pipe? Retired and need spend wisely if I want to get the ouput I am happy with.
Sounds like your set up is pretty good with the stock carb.
You think with the stock air box modded I'd be able to get close to your setup?
Keep up the awesome thread.
Arthur
-
You think the neddle mod was a must do? Did it change the mid a noticably?
..the needle mod is pretty much a necessity if you run a free-flow air filter and a pipe....
..i'm down to a 120 main jet from this setup..
..still running a 732-18.5-28 belt, and it's a Gates, just not a gates BOOST...with the boost, i actually went to 6.5 Dr pulleys...
..Now, with the regular Gates, i'm going to go back to the 6 gram...
..itsa fine line between dropping in and out of the powerband...
..main thing you probably need to do is check your driven pulleys, and see if they are restricted (bet they are) and replace them if so...
..that's easily 10 mph increase
-
...also, make sure the drive boss, and cdi are de-restricted...
8)
-
Well I have the Naraku vari, 1500 contra spring and clutch spring set on order. (Boss included)
Have stock driven pulleys and clutch on the 03.
The Naraku pulley set is out of stock so I check the A 50 set at the local dealer runs about the same price as the Naraku. Not sure which way to go wait for the Naraku or buy the a50 23010-LDC8-C10. advice?
6.5 and 7.5 generic rollers plus the 8.5 stock and the 8 that comes with the vari.
Also the Naraku filter element for the stock box. No pipe at this point.
With that setup what jet range should I try? What roller and clutch spring rate should I try first?
Thanks
Arthur
-
So by your vari thread I take it you would go for the malossi over the Naraku I ordered? I just initially want a little more umph and topend. Of course a pipe will get ordered too. I'd like one on the "quieter" side of tuned pipes.
-
I wore the Naraku var out in no time...Malossi is best variator upgrade i've ever ran...and i've tried a lot of different ones...
...also wore out the Naraku torque driver...it's hard to beat OEM parts...
..There's no need to change jets, unless you install a free-flow air filter or a pipe...OEM main jet should be an 82, and i wouldn't advise putting in that 92..
..as far as rollers and springs, every scoot is different, but the idea is to get initial take-off rpms at or a little above your powerband...which should be @ 7500-8200 on a oem setup..
..then just hold that rpm until you approach top speed....let the cvt do all the work!!
-
The 92 jet is listed as the oem unrestricted jet in the service manual. 78 is listed as the speed restricted size. I'll try the 92 tomorrow when the wifey is at work today is her only day off sooooooo.
Once I get the order and try the stuff out hopefully I'll learn to tune a cvt....more so how not to ore so...lol.
The A50 full pulley assy does come with the derestricted pulleys right?
Thanks for the reply.
-
..well, I bough a complete clutch assembly..a50, and yes it did have correct pulleys ..someone else here bought just pulleys, and the non moving pulley half was from a restricted set....
...that's big jump in jet size without increasing air flow....my 2004 had a 82 main, and the AC super nines generally have a 75 main...
..look at your plug...it should be a nice, dry, brown kinda caramel color...
..in fact, i would put in a new NGK BR8HS plug and ride it a few miles, then look at it..(sorta like plug chop)....
-
Yeah i am going to change it and take a look at the plug. Autozone only had the br8hs I have it and a br8hsa coming in from another store tomorrow.
First I was going to look at the used plug ride it and compare. It is after all going to be richer so no harm should come of it right?.... Famous last words.
-
Is there a stock airbox restriction? I am pulling off the exhaust to check it tomorrow too if all goes as planned.
Have you done a gps speed on nina? Is your speedo way off? Mine shows 50 when my phone GPS shows 42.
I do like the blue color of your scoots too. But think I'll keep mine black and red. Might do the back left and right body panels in matte black. When I order a replacement for the scratched left side I'll sand and paint it to see how I like i matte black compared to red. The red is really nice and can be seen well from the side.
-
...i've not found any airbox restrictions on any of the s9 that ive seen..
..dont bother with exhaust...it aint restricted...
..ive ran both those plugs...seems the "A" might have ran better in nina oem....hmmmm...
..richer wont harm much of anything, .long as you got a fresh plug with y' to put in if it fouls...lol..
..does tend to build carbon over longer periods of time, which is not desirable....
..i gpsd nina a while back, and she was 6 mph optimistic @ 40...
..at 55 mph indicated, she gpsd 50...
..i have not had a chance to check since she's pegging the needle...
..looks like 65 indicated....
-
..the really fukn awesome!! thing is, that at "65" ind, nina is only turning @ 9400-9600 rpms...
-
hopefully I'll learn to tune a cvt
..itsa must-learn...
;)
..but before that, you MUST know that your fuel mix is damn near spot-on....
..a rich fuel mix could be mistaken for a cvt issue, performance-wise....

Shhhh the wife might hear ya! Yeah a few cough cough dollars here and there. Noce thing is that most of the parts are small so it brings less attention to their cost. Once they are in the " lab" er garage it's all good.
Actually my wife is pretty cool about my little hobbies. I am pretty good at keeping it in check. I am not after all restoring a 57 chevy or something around here......
I like to tinker and reading you guys I know I am in good hands here.
-
You are in good hands
Yeah, compared to restoring a hot rod, a hundred bucks here and there really isn't that bad.
-
Well I ordered the jets so I guess it would sorta be pointless to pill it apart tomorrow. But who am I kidding hahaha.
What do you all think about to 1/4 turn out on the low jet?
I though maybe bleed by from the choke circuit. I didn't see the mark on the jet so it could have been upsized. Come to think of it it idle pretty much the same with the filter box open. Hmmm. Maybe I will need to check that out.
-
Nina is a 1/4 turn..right now...
-
When I get the jets in I'll recheck the float level.
Thanks
There is a 04 matte black super 9 lc for sale here locally.
-
...WHERE YOU??!!
-
Phoenix
Ae you running a 732-18.5-28 belt on both scooters?
-
..i've not touched bertha.(70cc) cvt...
..she's still oem...
..but i'll not run anything other than the 732 gates on nina...
...it's just too damn good to fuk with...

..been a long time away from this thread...
..recently tried a 140-70 12 rear tire on nina...wowww...
..i think the s9lc shoulda come with the 140 oem....
..or, go ahead and put you a 140 on, then start dailing stuff in....
..itsa whole new world....

I just put an oversized Avon on the front of my peop. I likes it :D
-
..thatsa good choice pete...up-sized the rear as well??
-
Better late than never ;D
I did upsize the rear. Had a over-sized Shinko on the rear. Wore out a little premature if you ask me. Now I have an over-sized Michelin. I'm happy with both the Michelin and the Avon.
I also put a set of Avons on the ZX too. Slightly oversized I think. sh**... it's been a couple months. Man what a difference though! I love the way that thing rides. So smooth.
I've been riding the ZX a lot lately. I took the people to the beach a couple months ago. Long story short, I added oil to my gas can but forgot to add gas :-[. Luckily I realized it after about a mile of riding. Don't think I did any damage but after I drained the tank and put it all back together it didn't run right. So basically, I've been really lazy and just riding the ZX around. It's too damn hot to go out and work on the people 8). I think the float is hangin up or some dumb sh** like that. I'll get it goin again before school starts.
Sorry it took me so long to respond. I don't know why I never saw this.
-
I love the Avon's u guys recommended ..... what are the benefits of an oversized rear tire? Too speed, I'm assuming handling?
-
No gain in top speed. If anything you probably lose acceleration due to the extra tire weight. Nothing noticeable. I like over-sized tires because I think they just feel much more stable. Better handling too.
-
time foe a new belt..... was gonna change the clutch springs while in there. For a stock unrestricted setup, with the exception of a Contra spring, what would u recommend? Also gonna throw in 6.5rollers too. Currently at 8's.
-
Yellow or medium stiffness. Could be a different color I think most are yellow though.
-
What are your thoughts on kevlar belts? I just noticed that my drive face is also worn badly... a noticeable smooth groove. Is there a performance aftermarket anyone would recommended? Thanks guys.
-
I'm running a kevlar belt right now and I've had no problems. However I did find out afterwards that kevlar belts wear cvt parts more and it's a nightmare if they do break. Bando makes the OEM belts and people say they are the best. If you can find an OEM belt in your size get it. I replaced my OEM belt at about 12,000km and it is still usable as a backup. I've heard of them going 15 or 20k before being replaced.
-
What about the variator drive face? Any suggestions?
-
Aluminum drive faces are NOT what they are cracked up to be...
Search in this thread for the evidence..
OEM drive face is A LOT better

..yes sir..4 super nine lc...two of them on the road, one could run with a cpl parts, and one "parts bike"..
..3 peoples..I still have Christine...I could ride her, but don't dare to...one 72cc build, that I never seem time to get back to, and another 2004 with 1100 kms on the engine, that has major body issues..
..oh sh**...then there's kymmi.....she makes 8....
::)

Nice :)

..nina is screaming right now..
..I run her 17 miles, both morning and evening...
..12 of those miles are flat-out full throttle on 311 from Randleman to Archdale..
..on her best days, she hit's 65 actual in the valleys and always holds 50 plus on the flats..

That's with factory displacement right?
Wish I had one of them

..no, that's with a "cheap" 70cc kit, and Josh's modified high compression head, from waay back..
..I modified the head for better cooling capabilities..
-
Ohhh nice. Is "cheap" a brand name? ;)
-
..no, it's Bertha's kit...practically oem styled...
..I transferred it to nina...then ported the head's cooling channels after she ran hhott at 70cc's...
..Actually, The head mod could be done on any OEM S9 and make the scoot run considerably cooler...
-
Slinger! I love this thread.
I am planing on getting the Airsal 70cc kit for my LC. Not sure which pipe yet though.
If I get a new "de-restricted" torque driver, will that "de-restrict" my clutch, or do I need the entire assembly?
Also, I got a hold of a used carb off a Madass 125 and believe it will work but I'm not sure what size it is. 22mm?
Might be too big?
Thanks
Alex

..welp, mixed and "matched" driven pulley assembly parts don't always match up ...gotta get that belt waay down there for top speed...
..I'm using an Agility oem td and driven pulley, cpld with a stage6 MKII clutch on nina...
..as far as carburetion, I'm happy with the oem PB16...but I also use open air filter...got big jets innit...
-
..aannd, if you want to run open air, with oem exhaust, you gotta modify the throttle needle position capability..this carb's needle is not adjustable......
..I love getting rid of the oem airbox...
::)

..the best thing I ever did for nina, was to start running a Gates 732-18.5-28 drive belt...
Sweet, thanks. I was pretty pleased to see that GY6 50cc clutch pulleys will fit on the S9.
-
..with regular preventive maintenance, the oem KYMCO driven pulley assembly is hard to beat...
..stick a good adjustable clutch on it, and you can dial really dial in the torque...

Would you mind explaining how running a shorter belt increases the performance?
-
I got ahold of a stock Kymco clutch. Not sure what it is from, only that it is a 2005 in decent shape. This one has the relief in the torque driver cover so I can use the NCY driver! Just waiting on my 2000rpm clutch springs to come in.

Here is the torque driver from the NCY set: Not sure which slots to use. The more vertical?

-
Would you mind explaining how running a shorter belt increases the performance?
..that 732 is actually slightly longer, and .5mm wider that oem...
8)
-
..I bought that same NCY kit a few years back, and trashed it on an agility....
..not sure how well it's gonna hold up on a S9...
..good luck..
-
..I guess what I'm trying to really say is, a derestricted S9lc will wear lower-priced aftermarket parts in pretty short order..and not all a/m parts fit perfectly...might look good standing still, yet not have the range of motion capabilities at higher speeds and torque...
..you need to get proven parts for your S9...or you'll be missing out....

That is a NGK BPR8HS plug

..looks short..
..NGK br8hsa or br8hs works with the oem...
..not sure what that "p" means...
-
that's sexy.....
LOVE the color......
+1.. get rid of that plug.....
-
..yup, thinking about going ahead and boosting her up a bit before I even put her on th road...
..I have a new tecnigas pipe..need a new K&N or Malossi filter...
..just gotta mod that needle...that's the bitch...but worth it...

Just swap the needle till you reeeeeaaaalllly wanna do it...lol ;)
-
..a 19mm carb would be the sh**!
:o

true that.....
I have a keihin 19mm OEM from a honda but the flange is to wide for the oem intake on the s9... Now if you can make yourself an adapter you is welcome to it..... them is $200 carbs believe it or not...lol

It's the double mint twins......
-
..looks short..
..NGK br8hsa or br8hs works with the oem...
..not sure what that "p" means...
The P is for "Projected Insulator" So this plug is actually a little longer then the standard br8hs. So should I try to find a plug length that would match the thread length of the head???? Weird.
Sorry for posting in this thread. It is just a plethora of info on Super 9s. Let me know and I will make a new topic.

So here is a picture of that same plug in the OEM head.
And a side-by-side comparison:
Still confused. Did they do this for compression reasons? Just doesn't look right. I will see if I can try and find a plug that will fit I guess.
-
..can you post one pic of the two heads, side by side?
...so we can see a true perspective, but yeah...the kit head looks weird...
:o
-
Figured it out. Had my friend in Madrid call them to confirm. The kit needs a plug with 19mm length threads. In this case NGK BR9ES. Would have been nice if they would have included this info with the kit. But for any one that comes across this in the future, that is the plug you need. I would do what I did just to be sure and screw the stock plug in the new head.
Thanks for the help all.
