Which wire specifically do you cut? On mine, the red one was cut when I got it. Not sure if that's the right one or not. 2015 Super 8R 50 4 stroke.

Checked everything and all connections are tight so at a loss why the new speedo didn't last a couple of months. Of course procrastination made me miss out on ANOTHER one under warranty by like a week.  :-[

Super 8 / 2015 Kymco Super 8R 50 Electronic Speedo Issue
« on: August 16, 2017, 01:45:02 PM »
Hey guys.  I have a problem with the speedo on my 50X.  When I got it used, the speedo didn't work. At least not the speed part. Replaced the sensor at the wheel and put a new speedo on it.  It was obvious the previous owner screwed with it because the cover was held on by an elastic strap and corrosion could be seen inside on the motherboard.  Everything was working fine then the speedo started only working intermittently now not at all.  Still just the speed part. Gas gauge and turn signal parts all still work. My son is riding it so when I can get him over here I'll check all of the multiple connections that come from the speedo and make sure nothing wiggled loose but can anybody shed any light on this?  Nothing else to replace since its only comprised of the sensor and the speedo and its all new.  Thanks guys.

It just seems to me you are expecting too much from a 50cc scooter.
There really is no substitute for displacement.

Yea, I've about resigned myself to all its gonna give.  Just received the digital speedo that I'm having to replace and when I took the battery out of the scooter to charge it since its been sitting for a few months, I noticed that red wire with electrical tape on the end of the 2 coming out and wondered what or why whoever cut it cut it.  Don't have a wiring diagram so can't trace it.

dwbailey did you replace the CDI or remove the Purple wire to remove the rev limiter?

I actually JUST posted a thread asking about a red wire that was clipped in the battery box coming out of a brick (probably the CDI I'm thinking). The wire has a light purple line on it. Would that be the purple wire you meant? Sorry for late reply. Just now getting back into the forum and didn't get a notice that a reply was posted. Don't know if the CDI has been replaced or not. Thanks for the reply.

Super 8 / 2015 Super 8 50cc - Red Wire in Battery Box Clipped?
« on: June 03, 2017, 05:06:30 PM »
Hey guys, quick question.  I noticed in the battery box where that black brick looking thing is with a connector attached to it, that is has the red wire with light purple stripe clipped.  Can't see what it was part of unless its just a loop right back into the brick.  Can anybody shed some light on what that red wire is and why it might be clipped? Got this from somebody second hand so not sure if they would have clipped it to help unrestrict it or what.  Thanks for any insight.  :)

Changed speedo sensor and clatter gone. Speedo still doesn't work unfortunately. Just stays on 0. Guess I'll have to drop $110 for a new Speedo since that's all there is left.

Pilot jet was clogged and tweaked air/fuel mixture. Runs better but still slow on hills. Maybe drop rollers from 6.5 to 6.0?

Got it back from shop. Pilot jet was clogged and air/fuel mixture needed tweaking. Runs a lot better now but still slows way down on hills. Guess I could lower rollers from 6.5g to 6.0 and see what that does.

Changed the Speedo sensor. Clattering stopped but Speedo still not working. Stays on 0. Fuel level works and turn signal lights work. The only other thing is the Speedo at $110 I guess.

Called a Kymco shop and described how I put it back together and I feel confident its back together correctly.

One guy suggested increasing jet size slightly since the restrictor washer was removed from intake tube. More air with original jet size could impact performance. Anybody removed that washer and had to increase yet size?

Thanks for the insight. I messed up on my original comments when I said I had 3.5g rollers installed. Actually had 6.5g ones installed.j

I mentioned the going a bit larger on the jet after removing that restrictor washer and his immediate response was no need. Will bring it up again tomorrow when I take it back. He also said no need to change clutch springs. Have read some threads that some have suggested changing those, too. Hoping he can get it figured out. Son is really struggling on hills with it but will tell him there is only so much you can get out of it. Think he would gladly sacrifice some top end speed for more climbing speed. It'll hit around 40 now on flat ground. Thanks again.

So still having the chugging problem going up hill with on 165 pounds on it.  Change in variator, spring and rollers helped but surely it shouldn't slow to like 15-20 mph should it?  Pulls a little better after the change but not much.  Takes off at the top of hill. Any other ideas?  :-\

Well I updated my profile and you can see what I did trying to derestrict it.  Still runs like crap up hill.  Better but chugs bigtime until it gets back to flat ground then takes off. Any suggestions?  :-\
