Title: 2004 mxu 250 -no spark-
Post by: xrjoe on September 08, 2018, 06:18:35 PM
new to the forum, and this quad, with battery dead, carb filthy, valves needing adjustment, addressed all of the above,  wiring to ignition coil and cdi look intact, cdi looks to be on right side of tank sitting on it, is the procedure for stator and coil test by resistance, to confirm a cdi failure, or might i ask how to do so. please help.

think im mistaken on ignition control location, wiring at unit looks to be under seat next to battery, rear of charge regulator.

First, try www.cyclepedia.com (http://www.cyclepedia.com) for a service manual with that info unless someone on here knows off the top. Next, a little history clue like how long have you had this and how did you "address" those issues listed. Last, do you have a multimeter?

in just trying to get it running, pulled carb apart and and soaked in overnite carb cleaner, adjusted valves to .008" and .010", got it hooked to another battery to crank, ive got afew fluke multimeters for work, some manufacturers dont give pickup and generator specs, different multimeters give different readings, im just looking for close, or way off readings.

Don't know what the MXU 250 valve specs are but just about every other scooter engine on the forum is .004" intake and exhaust. How 'bout some history on that thing? You get it in a box of parts, get it for a song, previous owner had it parked for a couple of years?

been sitting for years, owner passed away, helping daughter to get it running for utility yard work. most car and motorcycle engines run that clearance, i dont like really tight, needing more attention. im looking at harness abrasion where stator joins main harness. might be my problem.
