New Tyre needed for my X-Town 300i
« on: May 12, 2022, 08:37:29 AM »
After 4,000 miles spirited use, my rear Michelin City Grip 2 is showing signs of the abuse it's suffered.  The front looks like it's good for another 3 to 4K so one tyre only needed this time around.  Another CG2 or are there any compatible alternatives out there I should consider - and no Karl, I don't want to move over to the dark side!  ;)

There's the dual compound Power Pure Michelin.
Might last a bit longer with that harder center compound?
But then you're on 2 different treads!

I like Michelin Power Pure SC---wear round and last a long time---or Heidenau, like the way they feel.

I'm thinking maybe not Stig and my reasoning for that is the current wear pattern.  For the first time in my riding history I can see a definite bias to the R/H side as you look at the rubber from the rear.  I'm putting this down to my riding habits on the scooter, as the vast majority of those 4K miles have been between the village where I live and neighbouring towns running errands and significantly, encountering lots of roundabouts (traffic islands).  Riding on the left with a lot of right turns at the island means I've inadvertently spent more time leaning right than left?  Well, that's my working theory.*

With that in mind I'll probably stick with CG2's this time round, but open to ideas for a change next time?  Like the sound of the Power Pure and the Heidenau's that John G favours.

* And I reckon some longer runs further afield, to even out the wear, are called for!

OK I’ve opted for another CG2 rear this time, to be fitted on my drive next week. Still a reasonable amount of tread on the tyre, but it’s begun “white-lining” and I always find this disconcerting. I could push it to get another 1K out of it, but at less than £100 fitted I’m thinking “why wait”?

Don’t misunderstand me Stig, there’s still plenty of life (tread) left in the rear, just feels a bit “squirrely” now and then compared to 500 miles ago.  As for shorts, nowhere near as fussy as I am with tyres!

I've only ever heard my Dad use that word.
And only in his conversations with other members of his flight crew. (he was 30yr Airforce, '43-'73), and usually with a bit of a smile in his voice.

I had city grips on my 2012 GTI 300 and was very happy with them. I now own a 2021 X-Town 300i GPS. I was thinking about putting City Grips on it for better wet weather riding. When I checked, I didn't see the correct sizes listed. Do they make the correct front and rear sizes for the X-Town. If so what's a good sources to buy them?
