S 250 dual front disc
« on: September 01, 2012, 10:45:50 PM »
I was looking around on Stadium Yamaha Kymco parts and noticed that the left and right brake disc are different part numbers but what is surprising the left one is $48.30 and the right one is $60.96. Whats up with that. They look the same.

No I don't need any, I just happen to notice that they were different prices.

I would guess that the part is the same for the left of the S250 as the one disc for the p250. More often made part is cheaper maybe?

No these are Kymco factory parts. They look identical. I can't see a reason for this, I just haven't figured it out yet.

Its not high on my list of things to worry about. It just seemed strange that the price of two identical looking parts would be that far apart.

The next time I am at the dealer I will run it by them.

That would be a guess as the P250 disc is on the right and is $66. The Cheap one on the S 250 is on the left.

Yes, those are original Kymco parts, but Kymco, like all other bike and car manufacturers, don't manufacture all their parts. They sub-contract manufacturing to different parts manufacturers. The shocks are made by a shock absorber company, the springs by another company, etc. Just like the Kymco brand OEM belt is made by Bando, Honda belt is also made by Bando.  In the case of the disc, it's possible that the other one is made by a different OEM manufacturer. I'm just saying it's a possibility. Another possibility is that the OEM factory that made that before already closed and Kymco has to look for another OEM factory to make the product, which, can have a difference in price.  Another example is a popular brand of car horn that our Company imports. The company is an Italian company and has two manufacturing sites, one in Turkey and one in China. Both have the same factory set-up and both have identical products but the ones that came from their China factory is cheaper.

Retired after 45 years in manufacturing as a manufacturing manager.....I know how things work.

The manufacturing cost are taken into account but are never the deciding factor in retail cost. The mark up on renewal parts is sometimes 100 to 250% of actual cost to make the part.

My edit from above post..

I would say there is a difference in the two disc and its not where they are made.

Front left pads also cost twice as much as front right pads who are the same as rear pads.
