Title: Handheld engine diagnostic tool
Post by: Yager200i on February 26, 2011, 01:32:29 PM
I found what appears to be a couple of options for doing diagnostics on the engine and fuel injection system of the Yager GT 200i scooter.

First is a small monochrome-screen handheld diagnostic tool:
Handheld Diagnostic Tool: Part number 3620A-LEB2-900, 2019-0801331
3620A-LEB2-E00 (English version) or 3620A-LEB2-900 (what I'm assuming to be the Chinese version).

The alternative to the above tool is an RS-232 Linker and Power Supply, for linking to a PDA device:
Kymco RS-232 Linker and power supply: 36200-KKE2-900 PDA RS232 SJ25AB Ref Model G3 125

There's also software for Windows Mobile or Windows CE, called Kymco DTool, that you have to download and install on your PDA from the Kymco website, but I've yet to find a link.

It appears these devices are manufactured in Taiwan by:
http://www.autoland.com.tw (http://www.autoland.com.tw)

I'm trying to get in contact with AutoLand Taiwan and Kymco Taiwan to see if I can buy one of the diagnostic tools.

Yager, you have been BUSY! I thank you for your efforts and have downloaded the parts and wiring for future ref. Thanks again!

Well, Autoland Taiwan hasn't written back, and Kymco Taiwan referred me to Kymco USA. So, we'll see what Kymco USA has to say.

One problem I foresee is that the diagnostic tool discussed on that web page uses the Chinese language. We'll need to find a model that uses English, or do a translation and create a user manual detailing what each Chinese command on the diagnostic tool does.

And, we may have to actually go to Taiwan to buy these diagnostic tools, if that's the only place they're available.

Fortunately, my wife is from Taiwan. So that won't be a problem, on either count.

{BUMP}

Anyone got any leads on the diagnostic tools? Or, barring that, the communication/signalling protocol used?

If I can get the communication/signalling protocol, I can create a Windows program that can communicate with the bike via USB. We'd have to reverse engineer the whole thing (trial and error, figuring out which signals correspond to which commands and data to/from the bike), which would take time, but it could be done.

Digging this one back up, but I figured I'd note something regarding the tool:

Got my DT today (3620A-LEB2-E00) and immediately opened it up. The unit can be powered by the bike, or a wall wart, but not both simultaneously (shared trace). Wall wart needs to put out 12VDC, tip-positive to power the tool up. I'd like to figure out what the RS-232 serial can do, but that can wait for another day.

Going to hook it to my Yager today and let it complain about how many times it's been over-rev'ed.  ;D
