Xciting 500 / Re: 2007 500 for $700 or straight up trade.

There is a trick to starting my 09 Xciting in the cold. Less so after I replaced the OEM battery with a Lithium. Turn on key and warm the battery for 30 seconds to a minute with key and light on. Always wait for the battery icon to go off. That means the electronics are charged. Trying to crank when first turning key on tyakers a lot of juice. There are electronics that have to be fired up. I turn mine over a couple of times, and then she fires right up.

40 degrees is my cold limit. Usually 45, but I have put on leathers and ridden down to 35. Very cold. Couldn't wait to get home.

I so wanted to like the Myroad 700. The cockpit was too cramped and uncomfortable for my 6'3" frame. After 45k miles, my Xciting 500 was feeling a bit cramped, despite the custom seat and handlebars that I had made. It looks and rides real trick. Love it. Go scooter camping aka s'camping all the time. Here's a link to a short video on the Tube:

My LMS had a real nice Silver Wing and since I am a good customer, they made me a decent deal. I do like the Silver Wing. Looking forward to a 3,000 mile round trip from south Texas to northern California in the spring.

Well Sissy Mary, I got the Silverwing. No regrets. Smooth twin cylinders. Have only had one afternoon in the saddle and a couple of errands around town. Can't say for sure that I prefer it over the Xciting. Not yet, anyway.

Bummer Sissy Mary. My 09 clocked 43800. More if I wasn't also riding a Lance Cali Classic 150 all over town. It's a year old and has 2300. I'm trying to catch up to you. Although, I am seriously considering a Honda Silverwing. Like the smooth twin on the highway.

As you pointed out, idle on mine was higher with Zard.

I don't remember about the bags. I know it was online somewhere like ebay or Amazon or something. From Italy I think. They are throw-overs. The handlebars came about because I tightened the straps too tight while trailering it from Austin to San Antonio. When I arrived, they were bent down. Way down. Found some bars I liked and the shop tefch installed them with Kurakyn grips. Verty comfortable. the risers came from Dragon Customs. I think they are out of business now.

Hey Sissy Mary, nice hearing from you. Was talking about you just the other day. How many miles have you clocked now?

Great story, Ole Two Wheels.

Alyn, funny thing I noticed about the exhaust. I went back to OEM muffler and rpms at hiway speed seem to drop by about 200. Not quite as quick off the line with OEM. I am thinking now that the back pressure from OEM does make the scooter scoot better down the road. Mileage remains the same as near as I can tell. The exhaust was a Zard from Italy. I liked it. Sound especially. Although the OEM is quieter, with a pleasant growl under acceleration.

I am running  a free flow air filter that I made myself. I cut out the cadrboard from OEM and inserted Unifoam cut to size. Unifoam is what some racers use. Oil it like a K&N.

Lake Amistad near Del Rio. Water level way down. Had to walk or climb down nearly a hundred feet for a swim on a warm day. Luckily, I was able to back the scoot under part of the cover over the picnic table and have covered parking. Nice.

I use a spray cleaner/polisher called "Bike Spirits" and the plastic looks great. Except where the throw-over saddlebags rub. I tour a lot on self-supported scooter camping trips aka S'camping.

Allow the electronics to fire up before cranking the engine. I wait for the battery light to go off, or I listen for the buzzing noise to click off. Booting up the electronics while headlight is on and cranking the engine at the same time is a big drain on battery. And will probably lead to premature stator failure.

Under a separate post, I wrote about switching to a Lithium battery. Lighter and lasts longer and is more expensive, until the cost is prorated over the life of the battery which is 4 to 5 years. And requires no battery tender in winter for the majority of users.

My '09 xciting 500 has over 41,000 miles and still running strong. I'm prejudiced towards the Xciting. Then again, I have not owned a Yamaha scooter, so . . . not much help. Yours is a good situation to be in though.
