People GT 300i / people 300 valve adjust
« on: February 25, 2012, 12:41:56 AM »
900 miles and i checked the valves just to be sure all ok.

remove engine cover, seat and with a small screwdriver snap off front cover ,just take it easy. now the valve cover is right there. 4 bolts, 1 hose and loosen bolt on side.

find top dead center, remove cover on alt. cover ,use 19mm scoket to turn engine over - clockwise. check valves with .004in or .1mm. mine were all ok except 1 intake valve was tight - 003, corrected to .004in. easy to do.

also checked plug. it was very loose finger tight .color was fine , installed and tightened . all done ,next check at 3000 miles . see yea, ike

People GT 300i / back in the saddle again !!!
« on: February 21, 2012, 04:55:56 PM »
Got my new people 300 back from the dealer. problem was a defective map senor, replaced now running good.

did the 600 mi. service yesterday. 1.5 qts. of 5-40 shell rotella synthetic, 230 cc 75-90 mobile one and new oil filter (hi-flo 566 ). replaced stock air filter with a k@n # 33-2031-2 from O'reilly auto parts. price of filter was $45.

cut out paper filter and installed k@n in filter housing. length was perfect and width was 2/58in. trim rubber and glue new filter in . initial ride, no difference but you can hear more honking, ie more air getting into engine.

i like oldscoot have a vespa 300 super and i'm liking the people more. handles better, no wobbles from front end, so far i havn't tested take-off between the two. the vespa is no slouch on take-off and gets better gas mileage so far.
i'm sure people will improve with more miles. average mileage vespa - 75 mpg, people - 65 mpg.

i installed a givi windshield, much better on wind protection. see yea,ike

People GT 300i / now what ?
« on: January 28, 2012, 11:53:18 PM »
here i am on my new people 300. 320 miles , on way home at stop light ,i smell belt burning and scot wants to go. idle is too high and then up pops the dreaded orange engine trouble light. taking scot to dealer on monday (jan 29) for repairs. i have on order givi windshield from givi usa at 1-877-679-4484. price is blade # 443A - $ 105 , mountung kit # A443A - $ 80 . total is $ 185 with free shipping . they are waiting for mounting kit 2 - 3 weeks . i hope dealer has scot fixed by the time windshield arrives, too cold without it.

so far - ha,ha scot is great . ride is better than my vespa gts 300. no break-in mileage in owners manual. i'm keeping speeds between 40-60 until 600 miles. gas mileage 72- 68- 65 on 1st 3 tanks. not to worry it will get better , my vespa gets 75-80 all the time, of course it has 4000 miles.

i started a long blog comparing vespa to people ,but i dont type and somewhere along the line i lost it all,man was i pissed and i couldnt find it .

i'm at a loss why built - turn signals are disabled . they do work on my yeager.kymco usa says it has to do with DOT

i spent 1 hour taking off front plastic . the bulb holders are there, the wiring is there , so i installed the bulbs #7507 ,     but nothing worked. next i have to remove plastic around handlebars to further check the wiring to add-on- turn signals stay tuned my two fingers are tried .

« on: October 27, 2010, 04:05:02 PM »
oh, well these things happen . bulb was a 60/55 watt made in germany. i guess vibration did the deed. it doesnt seen like the yeager shakes that much. to install - remove windshield , small cover under shield. next remove entire front cover. lots of screws and 2 nuts dont miss 2 screws under front . with cover off disconect 3 wire holders . nice the way cover comes off no little tangs to break off . see yea,ike

Yager GT 200i / 1000 mi service
« on: October 19, 2010, 12:40:53 AM »
hi, did it today . took off 4 parts - seat, trunk, front cover and valve cover. both valves a ok . warmed up engine and changed oil and filter, used 10-40 mobil 1 oil. no i didnt even check that oil strainer ,what for ? now its wide open time maybe i'll try that 9000 rpm, at my weight i'll need a slight downhill helper. i also installed a small windshield , got a 18 x 24 sheet of lexan. took off joke shield and made my own. could of made it a little larger but it keeps wind off the body and deflects wind over my head . lexan cost 18.80 at lowe's,not very thick maybe 1/8 in ,but it seems ok.

Yager GT 200i / yeager top speed
« on: October 08, 2010, 12:27:59 AM »
ok ,here we go. at first 2 disclaimers, 1 . i live at attutide of 4350 ft ,this will take at least 1 hp away. 2 . im 5'11' and weigh 260 lbs. more hp loss. tues, i did service on bike .600 miles. wed i rode 100 miles up in mountains. thur-today i rode 210 miles. scooter club goes to lunch every thur. its 70 miles to the town they start from. onway over i cruised at 7000 rpm which was between 54-58 mph. on a nice level spot i opened him up. i saw 8000rpm and speed was steady at 65 mph. so for me that is top speed at 700 miles. i didnt try to go over 8000 rpm. anyhow thats my story. love this bike buy for long rides i will take my burgman 400 with a large wind shield , seat back rest and cruises at 75 all day long. so there,im done. hope you enjoy my story, thanks ike. ps mpg so far is between 83-86. really good on highway. see,yea

Yager GT 200i / yeager valve adjust
« on: October 05, 2010, 09:47:41 PM »
hi, i did a valve adjust today on the yeager . miles were 500. heres the drill - remove seat , two nuts. remove trunk box - 4 bolts and one large screw. when taking box out remove the light connection on left side. now gently take off the front cover , easy does it no screws or bolts . next remove two hoses connected to the valve cover . now remove 4 bolts and 2 nuts holding valve cover . with cover off , take large cap off at magneto on the right side . with 19mm turn engine clockwise until both valves are loose and large hole on cam gear is at top of engine.. check clearance of .1mm or 4 thousands. feeler gauge should go with no drag. loose is better than tight. use a 9mm wrench and needle nose pliers for adjustment. anyhow thats how this old bike wrench did it. piece of cake and a lot cheaper than shop rates. my valves were ok but i increased clearance on intake just a little . at same time a checked all nuts and bolts and tire pressure . i have a harbor freight bike lift . im too old to work on the floor anymore. hope this helps or come to alamogordo nm and i'll help. thanks ike

Yager GT 200i / shad top box
« on: October 01, 2010, 04:16:45 PM »
hi , i just installed a new 29 liter top box by shad. price was $89 i think. mounting plate was bolted to the small rack . bolts included were too short , so a trip to hardware for i inch longer bolts was done. bolts in kit were metric , at store i got 1/4-20 with locking nuts. box does stick out more than i would like buy looks good. also installed a cruise control. the $24 one with thump control. works great. now have 450 miles and will adjust valves at 500 miles . sorry no pics dont now how . will print results of valve adjust soon. also i paid dealer $15 and he downloaded yager sevice manual to my computer . there were 21 chapters and the complete print-out was 3 ins thick .took quite a while for printing and 2 extra black carts. to complete. now i have to hole punch and place in large binder. likeing it more every day. ride safe, ike
