Anyone else using this oil in their Kymco scooters? It is highly recommended on the Genuine Buddy and Modern Vespa forums. I just want to be sure that I can safely use it in my Like 200's, Grand Vistas and People 250. I've always used Mobil 1 Synthetic 4T 10w-40 motorcycle oil, but at over $10 a quart, I'm looking for a cheaper alternative.

I have used it in my GT300 since it was new. I`m pushing 12,000 miles now. No problems.
Many others here use it also.
IMHO, after break in oil is removed, the use of a good full synthetic will extend engine life, with proper maintinence of course.

Hope it's OK....after a couple thousand miles this is what I went to (from posts here)
Change oil in my LIKE200i with it about every 600>800 miles.
11,000+ now, uses no oil.
(Forza got Honda oil, Burgman gets Suzuki oil per the manuals)

That's awesome. I was using three different (and expensive) oils in my Kymcos, Buddys and Vespa. Now I can use the same oil in all 8 of my scoots.

T6 is what goes in my People S200. Great oil at a reasonable price. Highly recommended for air cooled engines (as well as liquid cooled). Lots of people use it in their motorcycles.

I use the Rotella in my People 150 and my Honda Helix. Its good stuff at a good price!

Mobil 1 10w 40 (not Motorcycle oil) but High Mileage. Since scooters do no have wet clutches, there is no need for m/c oils, and those friction modifies are good for your engine. Shell Rotella is a great oil also. My favorite oil is AMSOIL. It is the only TRUE "fully" synthetic oil All the rest that claim to be fully synthetic start with a crude base and as such require all sorts of additive packages to offset the harmful effects of carbon, which is found in all dino oils. AMSOIL needs no additives because it starts with an all man made synthetic base. Nothing in it comes from the ground. Unfortunately it is very hard to find on the shelf and ordering is a hassle. Everyone has his or her's favorite motor oil, but the truth is, all modern oils will get the job done id they are changed at the proper intervals. Just my thoughts.

Well, I took the plunge and switched both my Grand Vistas over to Rotella T6. I wanted to change the oil right before I put them down for the winter. I'll do the same in my Like 200's in the spring. The oil in both of them was recently changed, so I didn't see a need to switch them over at this time. My People 250 with over 14K miles has had dino oil in it from the beginning, so I think I'll just keep using the same oil in it.

Yeah, I went to the Rotella because of recommendations here, and because I change oil so often in my LIKE - and have from day one.

Uses less than a qt. and a jug doesn't cost much at Mallwart.

Rotella T6 is a very good oil. I perfer Mobil 1 and it has a dino base also. I like the fact that M1 has more molly than most other brands and that's the stuff that makes it super slick I will always use synthetic as it stands up to temperature extremes more so that convention oils and those little Kymco motors churn out some high rpms. Like I said' all modern motor oils will work if the are changed regularly. As a rule, I never keep a motor vehicle long enough to wear it out on the cheapest oil. Always good to change it before lay-up. I enjoy this forum and read it everyday. Really love your gallery Stig. Sent a message to my riding buddies with your picture of the two deer beside your scoot with a warning to be alert.

I use Mobil 1 0w40 in the People and DT. For a while it was the cheapest full-synthetic at Wal-mart. Usta use Castrol f-s until the price went up. Had over 20 k miles on the original DT when it was stolen.

tortoise, I'm sorry, it is Mobil 1 10w-40 High Mileage. You might wonder about High Mileage oil in a low mileage scoot. The only thing added to HM oils is a rubber softening agent and a few more polymers, which are good for any engine. The softening agent will help the seals last longer and the polymers makes it move toward the higher viscosity faster. On the down side is that the more additives in a quart of oil means that much less actual oil. But that is a negligible amount' For those who like Rotella
T6, or Castrol GTX they are great oils also.

Rotella is designed for diesel engines, so has various additives not needed (and maybe not desired) for gasoline engines. I'd probably recommend the Mobil 1 5W-40 or 0W-40 if you seek a higher weight oil. Both have seal conditioner, just not as much as the HM version. The HM oil is particularly beneficial as soon as you notice your engine consuming oil, then it can better swell the seals. As an FYI, if the manual suggests a 30 weight oil is acceptable a Mobil 1 0W-30 will allow the engine to generate more horse power and get better fuel economy... and the "0W" property helps facilitate cold starts . Some people get nervous about this, even if the manufacturer says a lighter weight oil is ok.

Over 25,000 miles on my Super 8 150 using Rotella T6. I used T5 at first to break it in but T6 since then. I do a lot of short trips on the S-8 so I think a full synthetic 5w-40 like Rotella T6 is a good choice.

Use both dino and synthetic Rotella, just depends on the bike.
