KILL SWITCH. ..show of hands.
« on: March 17, 2018, 03:49:29 PM »
✋'s up, how many have tried to start their scooter with the Kill Switch in the KILL position?

✋,✋,✋ here.
Twice after toweling dry, and once --- I don't know,  guy sent by Putin maybe.

First time it gave me a bad thrill. Cranking and cranking and almost starting. "Dang, my new scooter is messed up!"

Last time recently on a cold day, miles from home.  Another bad thrill. After 3 attempts I finally spotted the switch. Touched it by mistake with my heavy layers of gloves I guess.

Reckon those who routinely turn off their scooter with the kill switch - will never have this problem  ( for example my son on his R6 or CB500X )
I never use that switch. ( why I didn't score 100 on my rider school final exam. Actually, low but passing, score was due more to my inability to keep that lousy Yamaha dirt bike in the figure 8 rectangle)

I did it a couple of times after valve service since I set the kill switch so that I don't try to engage the starter accidentally. Now I put a piece of tape over the switch so that I have to notice that it's on. Also once WHILE RIDING when I first had the scoot and was in downtown traffic, not a fun experience! :-[

I mostly do it after washing the scooter. The switch gets turned off and I go into panic mode for a few seconds before realizing what I did. I used to turn off the scooter exclusively with the key. The MSF guys said to use the switch so it becomes second nature in an emergency.
The Like will turn over with the switch off, but not start. That gets worrisome for those few seconds. The SMAX will not turn over, so I go to the switch quickly.

Twice....that I'll admit! Once on the first DT, can't remember why, once at the test ride on the second DT after the first one was turned into junk by a thief. It would make more sense to interrupt the starter circuit than the ignition circuit, wouldn't it? Must be one of those NIH things: Not Invented Here.

I hit the kill switch about once a year, most when it is cold, big mitts on,  I have not done it on the Piaggio yet,

Glad to know I'm not the only fumble finger to hit that #*% switch accidentally.

I use the switch primarily as a form of theft protection, being in NYC and parking solely on the street. I figure if we can sometimes forget, perhaps the thieves will be to totally flummoxed and won't figure it out.

Perhaps I'm naive, but it seems to have worked so far.

Fingers crossed, Jon

At least two or three times. Mostly after servicing the engine.
