LIKE 200i / Like 200i as an external battery charger
« Last post by Duddy03 on Today at 05:02:47 PM »
I want to use the KYMCO scooter to charge an external scooter battery.  With the external battery, I could use an inverter to power small 110 VAC devices in an emergency. My thought was to turn off the headlight during the charging operation to lighten the load on the alternator.  (There is no ON/OFF switch for the headlamp.) Once removed, I expected either the 10 A or 15 A to kill the headlight or all of the lights while the remaining fuse would run the engine.  Unfortunately, what I found was that removal of the 10 A fuse killed everything.  Then, to my astonishment, I found out that removal of only the 15 A fuse also killed everything except, I believe, the fuel pump.  My plan is ruined!

I could put a kill switch in the glove compartment or under the seat, but that involves the disassembly of plexiglass panels and finding the appropriate wire in a wiring harness.  I would be satisfied with turning off only the front headlight and letting the other lights function.

In my old age, I seem to have forgotten the days when I traced electrons through a heavy fixed military radar set in the Air Force.

During the charge operation with a fully charged scooter battery and a discharged external battery, I plan to attach the batteries together without running the scooter.  After waiting some time for the two batteries to equalize, I would start the scooter and allow both batteries to be recharged.

Does anyone know why removing either of the two fuses, essentially kills all electrical functions?  And, does anyone have a suggestion on how they would proceed with this project?  Thanks.

General Discussion / about to turn 20,000 miles on the LIKE200iLX
« Last post by Stig / Major Tom on May 25, 2024, 04:32:06 PM »
I noticed on the speedo this morning....
Next week or three I will hit 20,000 miles on the LIKE - purchased new @ May 2013.
There were several weeks when I was only riding one scooter - while the LIKE was in the shop for warranty work.

So I figure I've ridden 40,000 miles on scooters since 2013, because I've always alternated rides with at least one other scooter.
I owned 3 Honda motorcycles in my early days, (before joining the games in Vietnam)  - all new. Loved them each!...but never kept mileage records.
I know there are guys here who've ridden that many in 2 yrs.
But - that is my number.

General Discussion / Memorial W/E off to a great start!

Yesterday - daughter needed to use a laundromat for some large items - so good excuse to use the one in Yellow Springs!
Then, we hit Miguel's food truck for his great tacos!

Finding a place to sit with food is a bit of a dice roll in YS - but the UnderDog makes their patio available , once their patrons are seated. (or buy a muffin from the 'Dog and camp out there!)

back to the tacos - the side sauces are.....violent!

Y.S. will be very busy this holiday w/e. Lots of folks and flags out already yesterday (Fri)

Stig

PS: a young deer walked past us on the sidewalk as we exited the laundromat! In the village center traffic and crowds - the poor thing looked sacred and lost - "how to find my way back to the forest?" Sadly - it was headed in the wrong direction.

Klav,
Half the time I can't remember where I've parked.....
did you already do a nice compar-o review of your Vespa vs your LIKE?
Ride quality, etc?

cc's?

Thanks, Stig

I haven't done that on this forum so here goes:

They look pretty similar.  The Vespa is bigger and heavier.  284 pounds wet vs 347.  That's without the accessories I added.

They are the only 2 bikes I have where I didn't need to do something about the uncomfortable seat.  Here's current my lineup.

Overall the Vespa is the most comfortable of the group.

The Vespa is much roomier than the Like.  It has a lot more power.  Top speed is 75+ vs 60+.  It will handle the highway with no problems but at those speeds it would be better with a windshield which I still plan on getting.  Acceleration on the Vespa is much better as well.

The suspension on the Vespa is outstanding and it handles rough or even gravel roads with no problems.

The Vespa is a gas hog.  I've been getting 65 MPG on premium gas vs around 80 on regular for the Like.

The underseat storage on the Vespa gets much hotter than the Like.  They are roughly the same size.

I put a bigger tail box on the Vespa, 47L vs 39L.

The extra speed of the Vespa makes it much more suitable for touring.  I just came back from a 650 mile two day trip on the Vespa.  My ride report is here:  https://www.advrider.com/f/threads/full-throttle-touring-150-through-the-rocket-city.647784/page-481#post-50526895

I have had the Vespa for about 3 months and have over 2,000 miles on it.

As for the prison it is now a tourist attraction with tours, a restaurant, events and even concerts.  It happened to be closed on Monday when I was there but the gate was open so I rode in.

People GT 300i / Replacement throttle tube for People 300 GTI
« Last post by agentparas on May 24, 2024, 04:28:39 AM »
Hi there.
I recently purchased a 2015 People 300 GTI and I would like to change the worn-out grips. I hear through the forum that the grip on the throttle side is molded onto the scooter's throttle tube so I would like to replace the grip and throttle tube but I would like to avoid discovering more Kymco "quirks" about the throttle. Can anyone recommend what type of tube I should get? Thanks!
