Title: When do you ride?
Post by: TroutBum on September 11, 2017, 06:24:18 PM
On almost any weekend I get up around 7:00 in the morning to go riding before my wife and kids get up. My wife and kids start rolling out of bed between 10 and noon which allows me to get a few hours of riding in. I love! The best thing about this arrangement is that I don't miss out on family time and the nagging that can sometimes ensue when the "one who must be obeyed" is dealing with our oldest. At 13 his is Mr. Know It All Give Me Give Me I Don't Understand Why Not little demon child. lol

So I'm curious when do you all get your rides in?

Ditto re: commute. Nice day = long way round naturally.

Plus the odd weekend. Along the coast for ice cream or into the hills chasing haggis.

Now that I'm retired....I ride whenever I feel like it. I can wait for the good weather or the cool of the evening, etc. Great feeling!

I'm a commuter and my scooter is my daily driver, even on weekends. I love it!

My LIKE is my daily commute and only transport as well and I still enjoy an early Sunday ride when the traffic is quiet.

I amaze myself with just how many errands I can find to run when the weather is nice.

I bought the Like when I retired from 47 years as a printing pressman. I use it as my "second car" for fun and in town errands. It has provided me with much pleasure and cheap transportation. ;)

From late spring to late fall, it is my daily commuter, unless raining. I don't ride in the rain, and early weekends, before the wife and kids show signs of life.

As a self employed General Contractor, my daily driver is a 3/4 ton diesel PU. However, I look for any excuse to take the scooter to do bids, banking, errands, shopping and coffee runs like Tom. For me, it's more spontaneous as I work in rides around work and family. Occasionally, I'll do a few long rides a year and attend motorcycle meet and greets or do a long solo ride up into Arkansas or Oklahoma on my SW.

You know Troutbum, I did the same thing, for exactly the same reason,  when I played golf every Sat am on a city course.
I eventually developed an understanding with the starter to pay when I came off the 18th green.
I very often was hitting to a green while the mowers would stand aside until I hit up.
I played in 2.5 hours and was home before the family was out of their jammies.
I played golf as I ride my scooter - year 'round pending no snow. (frozen water hazards lose their threat !)

Now, I'm finishing my scooter ride by 7:15AM - and packing lunches for the ladies before sending them off to work and school. Then I take the pup for a 3 mile forced march at the reservoir. (I don't walk her in the snow - but she has a sweater for the winter walks) Saturdays and holidays I go for much longer rides - while they're sleeping in.

I no longer set out to ride in the rain - since I'm without a work commute. But the weather has been very cooperative this year.
Hence all the night shots....

There are a fair number of early risers. I tried using the scooter when I had it to run daytime errands, but the traffic here in the SF Bay Area has gotten bad. Folks are in a rush and safety and courtesy have gone out the window. Good for you all that can run around town to do errands and what not.

It's easy to run errands here in Salem OR due to the fact that even though we are the second most populous city in Oregon there are only 167,000 residents! We moved from the California bay area so I know what you mean.

With no job at the moment I ride whenever I want and alternate on one of my 5 running scoots. :D

This is easy for me. My 125cc agility is my only means of transportation at this time. I sold my car back in April for $1100. It needed too much work. I have a nice little cash gig. Unless it rains here in Vegas, I take my bike to work everyday. When it rains, I take Lyft to work.

I know what you mean. Visited SF this summer and have to say the drivers there are the most agressive and rudest of any place we drove on our 5000 mile road trip. I would not want to ride there either. Used to live in Palo Alto. Don't miss living there. Sorry for you though having to navigate such a mess.
