Xciting 500 / Re: Clutch slipping, squealing **SOLVED** Cheap Fix
« on: November 23, 2015, 06:39:48 PM »
Do you know which seals were replaced and what higher grade seals that they were replaced with? I almost want to remove the case and spray some break clean in there to clean it off and see if there is more grease that comes through to see if I have the same issue.

I don't get on here much but to answer your question, I just don't really know which of the seals that they changed out.  I will add that about 2 months ago, the noise seems to be returning.  Since I didn't ride it all that much last year, for all I know their fix really didn't improve much.

You know with the exception of this clutch issue (and I believe I'll be on my 5th should it be changed out), it's been a great scoot.  My dealer is by far top notch and will do almost anything to resolve an issue.  That praise aside, I believe when I get ready to replace my scoot I will seek another brand.

I had bought one of those stop-n-go tire repair kits with the plugs and the little compressor, but always was concerened it might draw a little too much current.

So.....
I just recently had my dealer install a 12v cigarette outlet that is not only fused but connected directly to the battery through a relay.  It's keyed to work with the ignition on.
I suppose now it's not a worry.  On the real plus side, I can power all sorts of things electronic that I mount to the RAM balls I've installed on the brake fluid resevoir covers.

I've used the C02 inflators as well.  They saved my keester for sure.

I've got a 2012 Xciting 500ri with the ABS.  I really like it and it's been pretty reliable.

General Discussion / Re: seat cushions

I've got an Xciting 500 and have tried the gel cushions and a beadrider seat.  Both of those just didn't cut it on THIS particular scoot.

A friend sold me an airhawk cushion.  They are a little pricey but for the long rides I wouldn't consider anything else.

Xciting 500 / Re: Darksiding the Xciting
« on: May 12, 2015, 01:29:18 PM »
I wonder...are the reasons for darksiding the Xciting because you find that type of tire more comfortable or is it economics?

I believe a motorcycle tire is inherently softer than a car tire and is so for a reason.  Having a flat on a car tire then seems less likely.  With that said, I know a person who had a burgman 400 who suffered a very serious accident  shortly after darksiding.  He was entering a curve on what was a dry, debri-free road.  That's how he remembered it when he woke up in the hospital.

I look forward to your review of how the car tire worked.  I might just do this myself.

I saw this on the web and wondered if it would work should one not want to go RAM mounts.

Nice job.  It looks likeit's crouching, getting ready to punce.

Hey all!  I've had some pretty good success with this stuff.

It seems everytime I gas up, a little gets spilled on the plastics.  Premium really takes the black out of black plastic.  I believe you can get it at walmart or any auto parts supply store.

Xciting 500 / Re: Larger Windsheild
« on: April 16, 2015, 07:35:45 PM »
I've got the larger Givi screen on mine.  I use it if I'm going to take a long tour or if the weather has gotten colder.  Otherwise, I'm back to the smoked, stock screen.  I can swap them out in about 5 minutes.

I do wish the Givi was an inch shorter.  I'm 5'11 and can't see over the thing.  When it rains (especially getting caught out in that at night), it makes it difficult to see well.

Xciting 500 / Re: Almost traded for MyRoad
« on: April 16, 2015, 07:28:18 PM »
My dealer has a white MyRoad discounted heavily.  I guess most of the people who come into his scooter shop aren't looking for a 700cc scoot.  They're more into the smaller buddies, Stellas or 50cc kymcos.

That being said, I didn't see enough in the MyRoad for me to want to upsize.  I think my Xciting does everything and more for me.

Plus I just can't get past the ugliness of the front end.  At least for me they are...

I had clutch squealing / shuddering problems with my 2012RI almost from the beginning.   The pads were getting impregnated with grease.  4 clutch assemblies I went through in 18k miles.  One time I even got a new driveshaft.

The dealership finally got authorization to rebuilt the clutch with better seals.  It's been almost 3000 miles and the problem has gone away.

Xciting 500 / Re: how many Xciting miles have you ridden?
« on: February 06, 2014, 06:22:35 PM »
My 2012 RI w/abs is two years old this month.  I've got about 17000 miles on it.

Everything is stock except the tires.  I'm on my second rear set of Michelin City Grips (just changed it out before parking the scoot for the winter).

I moved into a new house this summer and didn't ride the scoot as much as I did the first year.  I hope to use it much more in 2014.

Michelin City Grips are what I use.  I'm on my second one for the rear.  I don't think I'll ever use another brand then these.

I have a 2012RI with ABS.  I went to my dealer for the very same reason.  I had owned several scoots in the past, and not just Kymcos.  In all cases the needles swept.

I was told by my dealer not to worry about it.

That was some 16000 miles ago.

I think I'll leave mine alone for the rest of the year.  This spring I want to ride to Tennessee, Kentucky, and maybe down through Arkansas.  I think I'll put a new one on just for the peace of mind.  I'll carry the old one as a spare (provided it's still in spec).
