Technical | How To / Re: 2012 Super 8 50 starter issue
« on: May 20, 2020, 04:48:30 PM »
UPDATE: When I hopped on the next day, of course the electric start didn’t work, but today I found out what may be causing the issue:

When I press the starter in normally, I get nothing. When I press the starter up from the bottom and in, it works. Seems like there’s a contact issue with the starter button. Any idea how to take it apart to clean the contacts? Will I need to add some more metal?

So I tested all the connections with a test light and was able to deduce that it was an issue with the starter button. I checked the fuses which all looked good, but thought I’d swap them around to see if that changed anything. Well, it seems to be a fuse issue! Thankfully I just bought some new ones!

After cleaning them, yes I could see daylight through them. Was very happy with how clean I was able to get them.

Good news - I took the spark plug out and let it air out a bit and I was able to start it up within 3 kicks. It immediately idled super high and I turned the speed down a bit to be able to drive it a bit. Warmed it up and started adjusting the mix screw first, then the speed screw. It’s now idling great! Just need to figure out my starter now.

Appreciate the guidance everyone!

So I was able to find some time to take the carb out and clean it... let’s just say it definitely needed a good cleaning.

After re-installing, I kickstarted it, and it fired right up. However, it died shortly thereafter likely due to improper tuning which I expected. But since then, I haven’t been able to start it. It sounds like the engine is flooded, but even when turning the mix screw to a lean mix, I get nothing. Any idea what to do? I tried using starting fluid and even that’s not helping it turn over.

Appreciate the help

Have you pulled the carburetor, removed the jets and cleaned them?

I have not yet. Planning to do that this weekend if not resolved by then, but was hoping I wouldn't have to. It's been a few years since I removed it to install larger jets so any video tutorials you have would be helpful!

I have a 2012 super 8 50 2T that was in storage with stabilized gas for about a year and a half. I worked on it this past saturday and was able to get it up and running (even after finding a rat had been nesting in my transmission, causing everything to rust).

Once running, I can tell the idle is a bit low so I'm keeping my revs up at red lights. I tried adjusting both carb idle screws to no avail. As the idle is fading, if I try to give it any throttle, it will die almost instantly.

Any idea what this could be? Clogged jets? Clogged fuel line / filter? Appreciate the help.

Hello,

My 2012 Super 8 50 2T used to have no issues starting, but now when I press the ignition, there is no sound at all. I'm wondering where I should start in the troubleshooting process.

Fully charged battery, kickstart works. Thanks for the help!!

I am new to the greasing process, do I need to buy a grease gun to apply the grease?

Super 8 / Moped is in gear even at low idle speed
« on: November 04, 2015, 04:19:23 PM »
Hello,

I have about 3300 miles on my 2012 super 8 50 2t. Over the summer and into the fall my moped started to always stay in gear when I come to a stop no matter how low the idle speed is set to. Does anyone know what is causing this and how I can fix it?

Thanks.

Clean the spark plug and try spraying something flammable where the spark plug goes. Helped me get mine started two days ago

Have you tried kick start? When my battery "died" (my power got too low) my lights still worked but when I would hit the ignition, nothing would happen. Try charging the battery and see what happens

Do you envy them? In my part of town, Lambos and other expensive cars are a common sight. I may not get to drive one in this lifetime, but at least I get to see them on the road! I'd love to see a Pagani Zonda. I don't care if they're careless with their money. They aren't spending my money.

I personally don't like spending my idea of too much on helmets since they are a wear item. But if a nice premium helmet shows up as last year's stock on clearance and it's time to replace my current lid, you bet I'd take it! Then for the rest of my helmet's lifespan I'd enjoy the extra value the soundproofing and aerodynamics provides at a fraction of the price. It may still not be cheaper helmet cheap, but there's value in it for me.

I don't want to turn this intoa car forum but really? A Zonda? The most ridiculous hypercar know to man other than its older brother, the huayra. Think of how ugly that would be in scooter form.

Most likely the connection came loose on one of your left turn signals. Happened to me but takes about 5 minutes to reconnect. Just unscrew the screw on the turn signal and remove the covering. Make sure both wires are connected.
