General Discussion / Best helmet cameras Or GPS locator
« on: April 07, 2018, 02:46:57 AM »
So, I have been reviewing some choices for Helmet cameras (built-in and mounted). They get pricey. Do any of you guys have any experience with those? or recommendations?

My specs: I don't need to communicate to others, so a mic isn't really necessary - though recording audio would be nice. I already have a GoPro mount, but it gets mounted rarely. I have been watching a lot of videos of helmet cams recently and would like one. I know it would come in useful sometime.

Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.
edit: I edited title because I like the GPS tracker option better.

Agility 50 / Wear your helmets
« on: April 03, 2018, 12:14:35 AM »
Sad day last Monday - my buddy that I work with was killed on his scoot when he was hit by a SUV here in Indianapolis, IN. There aren't many of us Scoot riders here, and it was a small accident, but without a helmet, he suffered brain damage and barely had a scratch on him. We don't know the full story yet, but it was at a 4 way stop. When Paramedics got there, they didn't think he was grave danger until on the way to the hospital when his face started swelling.

Sad sad day. Him and I were talking just 30 minutes before hand about a GPS locator I ordered for my Scoot.

Safe riding and wear your helmets.  :(

General Discussion / Kymco Agility or Kymco Super 8?
« on: March 29, 2017, 03:00:37 AM »
I got a quote for a Kymco Agility 50 2017 model for $1.6k but they are pushing the Super 8 for $200 more. I had a Kymco Agility for 5 years (ran her hard) and it was worth the money. The ending price from this retailer for the Agility is about $2.1k for freight, taxes and other.

Is the extra $200 worth it in the long run?   Is it a better scoot or is it just design (cooler design)?

Thanks for the heads up if anyone has any information. I plan on buying in about 2 days.

Thanks
B

Agility 50 / If your scoot is stolen and found ... How to fix?
« on: December 30, 2014, 04:34:49 AM »
If your scoot is stolen and Found and it won't start.

For me, it was stolen and then found. Now I have a broken scoot. They broke the ignition, kick star and handlebar lock. All blinkers  damaged and allot of other, but replaceable. Front face plate ripped open.

I have had it in storage for about 6 months, but want to look at getting the scoot fixed.

What is more important to fix first?
* Handle bar lock?
* Ignition?

The question raised is how do you return a vandalized scoot to working order. I put some fuel stabilizer in it about a month ago and I can clean fuel lines and carb. I can get a new spark plug if needed. I just need suggestions.

I think this could be an interesting thread.

How do you get a stolen scoot back up to running?

Looking for advice and will post pics and outcomes as time moves on.

Thanks to anyone with any ideas. I want to DIY this rather than having it serviced by an off the books repair company :).

6 months of riding a bike has netted me about 20 lbs of weight loss also. I am fine on a bicycle, but there are days I would prefer the scoot. We have had a mild winter so far in Indiana, so biking is not a problem. I do want to fix her thought.

Thx to anyone that replies.

Agility 50 / Finally got stolen
« on: August 01, 2014, 02:41:27 AM »
Had to move into a new place during mid-April. I already expected to walk out and it be gone upon renting the place. I was surprised it lasted 3 months untouched. I got home at 2pm and it was gone by 3pm. Chain cut and gone. When I noticed, I was coming out with my dog for our walk. Wasn't surprised, still took our hour walk. Called in for a Police report and 30m later they asked me to meet them in a local field.

There was my scoot, banged up and trashed. This was at 2pm in the afternoon and no one saw some people pushing my scoot out of the complex for 1/3 mile. If I had my disc lock on then it wouldn't have happened. Maybe replacing the chain is less costly, so to those that get complacent on only a chain in a public place need to hear this warning.  Police said they knew where to look because they put them in the bushes to come back later. They already broke the front panel trying to hot wire, the kick start and the ignition (screwdrivers and such to start it).

I was expecting it though. I had to move from a garaged place to street parking. You can guess the type of race I live around. It is not racist if it is true and I had planned for it. My reaction was to the effect "there ya go", and continued to walk my dog for an hour before I reported because I EXPECTED it. Disc lock would have prevented it because they couldn't push it. 3 months in and it was still there so I quit disc locking it during daylight hours (only on our last walk (dog) for the evening. Home owners pretty much safe, apartment renters beware. Indianapolis, IN be aware.

Not going to fix and re park in the same unsafe location. Rented a local Drive-up location for $70+ a month and is stored there.
Going to try to Bike it for the next 9 months until I can get away from these people.

Agility 50 / Valve Clearance - first timer - DIY - help
« on: April 12, 2012, 02:12:04 AM »
I know it is due to do, and last time I took it in for a 'warranty' valve clearance, I was charged around $200 US and I had to leave it for the night so that it was cold when they did it.  I did so and after 3 hours on buses (transfers, getting home and then going back to pick it up), what are the tools necessary to do a Valve Adjustment?

Side note:  This place also charged me almost $100 for an oil change that took over an hour.  Now that I am no longer in the warranty (almost a year now) and I do it myself, last week I changed my gear oil, motor oil, and cleaned my carburetor within an hour and only $12 in material (bought oil, but have plenty of gear oil in stock as well as carb cleaner spray).

I have an Agility 50, 2009 with around 15,000 km.  Used daily and basically a new belt, but I am missing a slider in the variator, which is on order (realized it was missing on last belt change).

I have no idea on how to do a valve adjustment and/or what valves need adjusting.  I can take my scoot apart, but really I have only dealt the carb, belt, rollers and changed some light bulbs.

Any advice on what tools I need or let me know the 'experience level' that I need to DIY it would be great.  If I need to take it in to someone I will, but if this is something I can do myself, I would rather do that.

Thanks
B

Agility 50 / Changed my Belt and Rollers
« on: November 03, 2011, 02:42:16 AM »
;D  Hey everyone, changed my belt and rollers today.  I have never done this and I found this YouTube video that gave a good understanding of how the variator works.

I was done in about 50 minutes because I knew what I was getting into ahead of time.  Getting the variator off was easy using last link.

Because of the first link, I am taking it apart again, to clean and use the graphite powder that it suggests and really look at what my scoot is about.  I was very nervous doing this, took it on a test run and it ran great.  I plan on posting pics on tomorrows clean up and for those (like me) that have never done it.

Love this site, and thanks

Agility 50 / Tools Required
« on: August 26, 2011, 01:27:55 AM »
 ???
Hey,

I did a search on here about changing the oil yourself (didn't really find anything), but I want to change the oil today on my '09 scoot to save on the $100 to the shop.  I already bought the oil from the dealer.  I could not get the oil drain nut off for anything and started to strip it a little.  I had the right size socket and even used a hammer to tap it a little, but the bugger won't loosen.

I have a generic Service manual for the scoot and it doesn't mention any special tools to do this.

Do I need to have an impact drill or something.  They are going to get my money unless I can't figure this out with your help.

I also want to change the belt and rollers soon and am shopping on http://kymcopartsonline.com, I have already used them to change out my bearings and speedo cable, but being a newbie, this stuff was really time consuming and difficult because I don't feel I have the right tools.

Is there a special tool kit I should get and when I see the word 'torque' in the manual, should I be on the letter about that or just tightened it until it's tight.

I am starting to get scared to ride it after every little thing I do because I am not sure I am doing it right.

This is a non modified scoot to the core.  I have replaced the air filter, fuel filter, spark plug, head/tail lights on my own with original parts.  I just can't get the oil drain loose and I am afraid of stripping it more.

I also think my bearins may be bad in the rear tire, but looking at taking off the exhaust - I think I need special tools there also.

Any advice on a tool kit to get and advice on why I can't get my oil drain plug off would be very helpful.

thank you in advance.

Agility 50 / My 2 year warranty is up next month so...
« on: February 16, 2011, 05:08:55 AM »
Just wondering if there is a book I can buy for my A50 or a general book for repairs, tune ups and such.  At the going rate of $79/hour for just an oil change - I think I will be DIY'ing from here on out on the small stuff.

I can build you a house from the ground up, but I have no mechanic skills at all.

I am coming up on my 10,000 K checkup and I am going to go ahead and pay for on last maintenance overall inspection and all that needs to be done, but unless I can find a DIY book I have issues that I hope I don't have to pay $79 an hour for and those are:

1.  I haven't had a front brake since 2 weeks after my last scheduled tune up.  2 weeks after I took it in, my front brake started locking and I called them (even though they adjusted and checked the brakes) claimed it wasn't them and it just happens and I can see that, so I tried to fix it myself, then cold weather creep'd in and I have been without my front for 4 months now because I completely took the front brakes off and resting on the floor board securely (yes, I know how dangerous that is - believe me) :)  So I imagine I will be replacing them (hopefully just the pads and not the caliper).

2.  I know I will need to replace my exhaust soon, it is starting to rust really bad.

3.  Replacing Gear Oil and Regular Oil.

4.  The main one I dread is the Carb cleaning.  I have watched videos on it, but no actual experience and I have read that the slightest thing can cause problems.

5.  The drive belt - Rollers and so forth

Those are my main concerns, and by not paying for a mechanic, I imagine I can replace that initial charge by buying the tools I need.

Also, buying parts myself will be cheaper :0.

Weather is getting ready to break and I need to start boning up on my scooter repair schedule.

BTW, this has been one of the best investments I have ever made.  Besides around 3 weeks of bad weather a year, I am always thankful for this piece of machinery.  This makes my second winter on it and it has done fantastically.

Thanks
B
