To WakeUpMaggie, Vivo, and Sissy.....I just had to laugh reading your posts.  I have two bikes at present.  A sweet 1992 Honda ST1100 and a 2007 X500.  I ride the X500 most of the time.  I live in Western North Carolina...which has to be home to some of the best riding in the country.  Nice, moderate-speed hills, curves, and straight stretches on country roads...as I ride 30 minutes of gorgeous terrain to the Blue Ridge Parkway.  Motorcycle heaven.

A few years back I was riding with a big group...Hondas, Triumphs, BMW's, etc...and one Harley.  One the way back home after a weekend outing, the Harley guy wanted to stop by a Harley Rally being held in a nearby mountain town.  At a gas stop he went from guy to guy asking for someone to takeover carrying his luggage back to town for him.  His reason?  He said there's no way he could show up at the Harley event carrying a "blue" bag.  I thought I was gonna pee my trousers.  I don't rag on "anyone" who is on two wheels, but, some folks just don't respect the rest of us if we don't cave in to letting what we ride dictate what our personality is.

Another thing I've concluded.  At least where I ride...it's a well known fact that Harley riders, in general, refuse to wave at the rest of us not riding HD's...or being in flat-black gear on a 90 degree, sunny day.  I've always thought that this refusal was
just plain goofy.

Then, I figured it out.  And, when I did I felt a bit sorry for them.
The reason that these guys don't wave is obviously because they're afraid to let go of the handle bars long
enough to do it.

MotoRandy123 and Vivo...
Thank you very much for your replies with the answer I was looking for.  This is more of
a nuisance than anything...and Vivo's comment that it is something that we scooter owners
need to expect is comforting.  Thanks again.

Xciting 500 / warm-up, rough to smoother progression
« on: March 31, 2013, 04:58:18 PM »
My '07 X500 carb. has about 2,200 miles on it.  It was a "test" model I from the headquarters in Spartanburg, SC I bought 14 months ago.  Went on my first longish ride yesterday.  I noticed
something that wasn't as obvious to me last season.
For about the first 15-20 minutes...upon throttle up after a stop--there was some significant vibration
as the clutch, etc...got reved up.  No matter how aggressively I gassed it....same thing.  After 15-20 minutes
it seemed to smooth out nicely.
Can anybody explain what is happening with the engine/trans/clutch, etc....to cause this to be the case.
Also, as I get more miles on this machine...am I likely to notice any change in all this?
Thanks and hello from Western North Carolina.

Xciting 500 / a battery issue ?
« on: September 07, 2012, 06:15:27 PM »
Recently a couple times on startup...my bike would not turn over at all.  All the guages go wild...
and I have to turn the switch on/off several times to get it fired up.  Kick stand is up....fully depressed
brake lever.
Could this be an old battery issue....I bought this used in December....don't know age of battery.
AND...could this have anything to do with the TEMP GAUGE issue, which has returned.  Will work sometimes,
sometimes not.  Will register zero or operating temp.  several times in the same ride.
Thanks.

Xciting 500 / Update: shutter/temp gauge issues...and THANKS.
« on: August 26, 2012, 02:08:42 PM »
When I experienced shutter issues the bike had been sitting for almost two weeks with no riding.  After a couple of rides temp gauge seemed to begin working on its own -- but, as advised I removed seat bowl and "jiggled" any wires I could reach.  I did run a dose of "Sea Foam" thru a full tank.
Since these problems popped up I have ridden most every day -- and most days included several outings and some of longer duration.

My report: (hoping not to jinx the situation).
--Shutter has disappeared.
--Temp gauge is working consistently
--"elephant trumpet" noise I've seen mentioned happens less and clears up after it gets well warmed up.

So, I'll look deeper into potential fixes mentioned if it comes back up...but, for now...a couple of folks advised that
it could be suffering from lack of riding...and maybe riding a bit too much like a "douche".  My throttle up is a bit more
assertive now and that seems to be helping also.

Thanks all for the tips.

Yo, bdrannik.....a swell observation on your part with the Sesame Street thing.
A real hoot !

Alrighty ce....thanks a lot for the seat bucket tutorial.  Looked at it and thought I'd ask you boys before diving into it.
This is a perplexing issue.  Rode some yesterday....temp gauge reads COLD.  I take a twilight ride tonight...COLD for about
15 minutes...then reads NORMAL the rest of the time.
I'll give it a look now that you've eased my mind about getting in over my sore head.
Thanks again.
Cheers from Western North Carolina.

BTW...ce....love the reference to Steppenwolf -- who I saw at Clemson University as a junior in high school.  A fond
memory of that double date with my senior girlfriend, Brenda.  Thanks for the jolt.

thanks guys....at present I don't have an X500 service manual.  Is this wire/sensor issue something
easy to get to...that I can check out myself or is it best left to a tech who knows the Kymco?

By the way...I have begun to be less of a douche on throttle up -- and at least I'm not hearing
as many giggles and belly laughs from all those drivers around me :)

Thanks to all for the good advice on the shutter issue.  Rode a fair amount the past few days and that shutter I
was getting was minimal.  I did get the "trumpet" sound a good bit, especially first 15 mins of riding.
Next issue:  In the middle of my ride (30 minutes into it) I noticed temp gauge reading "cold".  Stopped for 5 minutes, turning bike
off.  On restart gauge was read normal.  Then, in a few minutes dropped back to "cold" mid ride.  A couple of times it would change mid-ride from
reading "cold" to reading "normal" without doing anything.
Any ideas?  Thanks.

Xciting 500 / Re: '07 X500 shutter/jerk on throttle up
« on: August 09, 2012, 02:59:50 PM »
Hey guys....thanks much for the input.  Right...only 2,500 miles.  I live about an hour from the N.A. Kymco Hqtrs.
in Spartanburg, S.C.  This was a demo machine from them that I lucked on in December.
Had big service done at about 600 miles....and the mechanic "deglazed" the clutch.  That's what has
me baffled.  Low miles was cleaned only about 1,500 miles ago.  Feels like a mechanical/hardware/belt type issue instead of fuel thing.
Might try some Sea Foam nonetheless.
I'll let you know.  Thanks again.

Xciting 500 / '07 X500 shutter/jerk on throttle up
« on: August 08, 2012, 09:03:37 PM »
Hoping some of you mechanics...zombie, chandler, sissy, etc...could explain something.
My ride: '07-carb-2,500 miles-
Today...80 degrees, rel.humidity about 70%.
At the beginning of the ride I'm getting a significant shutter/jerk after every stop....
level, hills, etc...
Doesn't seem to matter whether I jam the gas...or am more gradual with throttle up.
Calms down after 2-3 secs....or 15-20 mph.
Now....after about 15 minutes of riding it smooths out considerably.
Can any of you gear heads explain mechanically what might be happening here...
Thanks and cheers from Western North Carolina.

Xciting 500 / Re: What's your MPG on your 500Ri?
« on: April 17, 2012, 01:52:54 AM »
On '07 X500 carb...with mixed riding...stop and go....with mixed terrain (some hills) I am
getting about 48.  I weigh 220.  This is at a moderate speed....35-65 cruising.  The last
tank included mostly flat and longer stretches...and I pulled 54 mpg.
