ok.. Here is the latest for those that have a 4 Stroke Kymco where Headlight and Tail light only come on when started as these lights run off the AC Stator Circuit.  Initially I refused to believe it was the Stator since it is a non moving part and is wound with really thick wire. What can go bad on this.. right ?  Anyway.. I bought a new Stator from Kymco since I could not be sure a Chinese version would match.. So.. It cost me 75 bucks instead of 20 bucks and it also came with the Pick up as well. So.. I had to strip faring pieces to get to the plug which was buried deep inside the rear faring which meant I also had to remove the rear rack as well.  O well.. And so.. New Stator installed and now my lights are back on and charging circuit back up. Also.. My Squirrel fan had teeth missing for some reason "bought this scooter used" and I replaced the fan with a Chinese version which fit perfect and was only a few bucks. Also.. Starter Bendix went bad, not sure why since the scooter only has 1500 miles on it, and that too was replaced with A Chinese 139QMB Bendix which installed perfectly and works great and cost very little.  The Chinese 139qmb is in most cases an Identical knock off of the Kymco 4 stroke.  I installed a power up kit made in China. It is cylinder and piston only.. And guess what the cylinder name is?   Jymco !!!  lol.. This too works fantastic !  I have the video posted on youtube for those wanting to know how to install the 4 stroke power up kit using 139qmb parts.

And so... Now.. Pushing almost 2000 miles now with the new parts.. All is well.. And here is my Review now of the Kymco Scooter VS the Chinese Scooter 50cc only.. I own 50cc scooters all the way to 250cc scooters Chinese, french, German, and now Taiwan..

So.. Let me tell what I know about the 50cc 4 Stroke Kymco VS Jonway 50cc 4 Stroke..

I have had more Trouble with this Kymco than with my Chinese Scooters engine wise..  The parts, fit and finish is better on the Kymco, but when it comes to the Engine, I like the Chinese engines better. The Kymco came with a CVT limiter bushing which had to be removed and milled or replaced with Kymco version in order to get more speed and power from the CVT. Chinese scooters do not need this mod.  Also. The kymco had a Rev Chip limiter wire which had to be located and cut inside the CDI by Grinding the corner of the CDI which cut the wire allowing the engine to rev better and higher. This is critical when installing the Power up kit.  All of this is a big hassle to do which is not  required for the Jonway.  As far as ride quality and handling, both the Kymco and Jonway are pretty equal. It seems that the Chinese have much more ride quality and control built into their 50cc Scooters than their 150cc and 250cc scooters. The 150cc and 250cc scooters  are very poor ride quality as there seems to be little rebound control for these larger scooters. Not sure why.. But the 50cc scooters are very good and very tight !!  In all .. I love them both and now that my Kymco is fixed I enjoy it more and more.  All things being equal, you will have just as much fun with the Chinese scooter but when it needs parts, they are much much less expensive to buy...  Enjoy the ride...

Vitality 50 / VITALITY 4S NO LIGHTS?
« on: June 22, 2013, 04:47:03 PM »
Hi.. I have a Vitality 4 stroke with almost 2000 miles.. Runs Great !! My Starter motor / Bendix has been making noise for some time. Ordered a new Starter motor a few days ago just because of the noise is not getting any better.. So.. Was out riding and during a hot restart, everything locked up !  Tried the kick start, locked up.. Pushed the scooter home as I was only a mile or so from home.. Got lucky there.. Once at home, I pulled the squirrel fan fairing side and was able to rotate the fan by hand and was impressed with the compression.. Wow !! So.. I knew the motor was not start still locked up. Pulled the starter motor and it looks fine.. Guess the one I ordered will be a spare..  Kick start still locked up. Removed the CVT cover and could see the Bendix was pushed out into the CVT main gear. I pushed on the bendix and it returned back to where it should be and the CVT side became free.. Yeah !! I noticed the Kick start gear had a few teeth and then the teeth were not there but solid steel for what I would guess would be 2 or 3 teeth length  and then all the teeth were there all the rest of the way.. I re clocked this gear and re-lubed the bendix and re installed everything. Scooter lit with the electric starter. Killed engine.. Kick start also worked good..  Re lit and Drove the scooter for 45 mins or so.. Returned home.. Killed motor.. Hit the starter motor to restart and motor locked again on the restart.. Tried to Kick start.. Again.. Locked up...  Removed the CVT cover again.. Pulled CVT wheel with impact and removed the Bendix totally.. Ordered a new Bendix.  I will just go with kick start until my Bendix arrives...

Ok..  Sorry to be so long winded.. But.. Here is my real concern at this time.. In doing all of this work and test driving it that afternoon.. I never noticed that my Head light and tail  light  quit working until the night hit.  What ?  The Headlight is a fixed low beam and there is no way to switch it off or on as it comes on as soon as the engine is lit telling me it runs from the AC stator only with really no regulation? Not sure....  Anyway.. The Headlight and tail light as well as a single very bright blue dash light comes on as soon as the engine is started.  This is the only time they come on and there is no switch any where to change this..  Later models may have a switch, but not this one as it comes from the factory this way and as long as it was working was fine with me as it provided plenty of forward light at night using a halogen bulb at least it looks like a halon bulb. Brake light still comes on nice and bright when you hit any of the brakes..  Only my running head light and running tail light is out which I believe this circuit runs on AC . But not sure.. I put a DVOM on the the battery and it reads 12.5 v and when the Engine is started never changes this value telling me my charging circuit is also down?  I pulled both front and rear bulbs and ohmed them good. Also Checked 2 fuses in the battery box fine. Any help to understanding this  bikes voltage delivery methods would be appreciated.  I am thinking my Stator has gone bad...  But I only see wire for the Magnetic spark pick up on the fly wheel side and no wires for any stator.. Maybe I just can not see.. Any and all help is appreciated.. I found the Manual PDF and dumped it.. After going through it cover to cover, found no help. Again. Any help is greatly appreciated.. Thanks.. Duane.. Still a proud Kymco Owner.. :)

Vitality 50 / Re: Vitality 4 Stroke Big bore kit

Just wanted to mention that the first 2 parts of the Video are out of Order. The Piston loading should be after the rings are installed.. But when I put the video together, I got those first 2 parts out of sequence.. Not a big deal. .Anyway.. Enjoy the clip..  Also.. At the very end.. We lit the scooter, and then the flip camera ran out of memory so no riding was filmed.. But since, I have loaded the video and then cleared the memory on the Flip.. So.. I have room now..  I also see some other parts are out of sequence.. That is a Flip camera issue in sequencing.. Dog gone it !!  At any rate.. For those that are serious about a power up grade.. Watch the full video to get what you need.. Enjoy the ride.. :)

Vitality 50 / Vitality 4 Stroke Big bore kit
« on: February 12, 2013, 06:53:45 AM »
I have a Vitality 50cc  4 stroke . My Vitality would top out at 32mph and it would take a while to get there. Keep in mind I am at 6000 feet in altitude which may explain why I do not need to change any jetting. For those at sea level, you may need to go one fatter. Simple to do and should take no more than 15-20 mins to jet one fatter.  Anyway.. I have finished installing my power up big bore kit and can now hit 42-44 mph and have gobs more torque. Again.. Keep in mind, I am at 6000 feet Bone Stocke scooter, and any where I go is up from here. Taking a scooter or dirt bike to over 12,000 feet is common for me.   The general rule is 4 percent power loss for every 1000 feet.  Since we have little or no humidity here  in Colorado, the racers equate us at 9000 feet where I am .  So.. Doing a little math, that means.. Typically I am down 36 percent in horse power as compared with those of you at lower altitudes.  So.. I can do 42 mph up here which is pretty darn good for being down almost 40 percent in HP. Before, I could only hit 32 mph and it would take a while..  I can only imagine what kind of power I would have at sea level.. That would feel like a shot of NOS to me I am sure.. The Power up kit or big bore kit I used was the typical 139QMB big bore kit . It was easy to install as you can see in the Video. My 4 Stroke will now run with the stocker 2 strokes, and it is not broken it yet. So..It will get a lot faster with time.. A lot faster !! . So.. For those of you interested in  powering up your 4 stroke  for less than 100 bucks.. Check out my video.  !! And.. Enjoy the ride... :)

Vitality 50 / Re: Engine at Idle shuts off/stalls. HELP!
« on: February 12, 2013, 05:17:55 AM »
Pull your fuel line off the carb and  hit the starter button and look for fuel to come out of the fuel line. If no fuel comes out, then check your vacuum line to fuel actuator.  If fuel does come out, check for spark. If you have spark and fuel, then you need to pull and clean carb.  If you have fuel and spark, spray some ether into intake and crank.. If engine runs for a few seconds, then you know you need to pull and clean carb.

This is what you can do.. Remove Carb... Dissect carb completely... Boil carb and all metal parts, jets, and all, submerged in boiling water with a few squirts of Non pulp Lemon juice for 20 mins. Once done, remove and blow out all parts with compressed air.. For Brass jets and Jet tubing, poke through all holes using a strand of wire cut from a bicycle cable. This  strand is very small and will allow you to poke through all the side holes on the Main jet pitot tube. Once done. Blow through all holes again with compressed air and reassemble and re install carb to engine.. Done..   Also.. Remove  inline fuel filter and while cranking engine to actuate fuel valve to pump fuel out of fuel line and purge any particles of matter and debris from the fuel line.. Install a new fuel filter and repeat this process to again purge the fuel line of any particles. Once you have flowed enough fuel through filter and lines to flush out any particles, install fuel line to carb.  Shoot intake with starting fluid. Fire motor.. Enjoy the ride..

This is what I know.. I have done 6 scooters all of them GY6 4 strokes..  I have put on the big bore kits. I can tell you the upgrade to power is amazing.. Install can take an hour or 2 on the first one. The second only takes an hour at the most. Again.. These have all bee GY6 139qmb engines.. Here in Colorado, you must be 16 with a valid drivers license in order to drive a 49cc scooter. You must also have the Low power sticker and valid insurance. You do not need to have a motor cycle endorsement .  Once you Get the VIN, proof of insurance , then you can get the low power sticker from Colo Dept of Revenue, and then you are legal provided you are 16 with a valid drivers license.  Now.. About the Power up kit.. Who is going to know?  And how would they know? By adding a power up kit to your 4 stroke, you will be able to do 45mph on the flats and up hills.. You will no longer be hugging the white line at 30mph or 35 on a good day..  The power up kits will only help everyone !!  Cars will not be angry with you.. Besides.. The power up kits for the 4 strokes will allow the 4 strokes to go like the stock 2 strokes .. Maybe a little more.. Maybe.. But.. REally. About the same.. The power up kits really are needed for the 4 strokes as they really are slow out of the box.. And they, or they have been easy to do and worth every penny ..

Now.. With that.. I must say that I have never done a Kymco 4 stroke.. But I am going to.. I just bought a very nice Kymco Agility 50T 4S with 800 miles. It is a stock all the way scooter.. Slow for sure.. Runs ok.. But does not make the power.. It is a 50 4 stroke.. So.. I have been doing a search for a Power up kit for the Kymco. From what I can tell. It is the same kit for the GY6 139qmb as for the Kymco. And I still have a spare power up kit for the 139qmb .. Yes !!  So.. Keep Posted. I will let you all know how this power up Kit goes for this Kymco 4 stroke.

As for all the other power up kits I have installed.. I can tell you.. it is worth it big time !!   I have done 4 of my own scooters, and 1 customer scooter.. And all have been fantastic !!  The only thing I install is the new cylinder , piston, and ring sets. That is all.. Keep everything else the same.. What you want to do is this. Make sure your scooter is running correctly before you attempt to install any big bore/power up kit. If you have a good running scooter, then once you are done with the power up kit, you will be amazed.. No Carb Change is needed, no change in jetting is needed.. Simply install the base Gasket, new cylinder with piston and rings, and new Crush Head Gasket.. That is all !!  And once you are done, you too will be amazed. You will  have a blast !!   I will do a video on this Kymco Scooter using the GY6 139QMB big bore kit.. So.. Keep in touch !!  And.. Enjoy the ride !!
