Thanks for the replies.  The tire stem purchased must be compatible with the KYMCO wheel.  A KYMCO dealer sold me a WPS 85-044A 90 degree tire stem (see the picture). This Western Powersports item appears to be manufactured by Fire Power and is said to be for wheels with a .453 inch or .625 inch valve stem hole.  OK - then any stem used in the Like 200i must be compatible with this spec.  Right?  Therefore, the contention from a parts manager that most all valve stems for motorcycles are acceptable must be false.  So, what size hole does the KYMCO wheel actually have, .453" or .650"?  (And how can it fit two different size holes?)   The Cyclepedia Service Manual doesn't provide information on this issue.  Note that when converted to metric, the holes are 11.5 mm and 15.875 mm - rather strange metric sizes.  I am being cautious because a non-KYMCO dealership will be doing the install and they won't take any responsibility for ensuring the proper tire stems are installed.

Also, has anyone used tire balancing beads?  For a person that doesn't push the scooter too hard, I assume it would provide limited value.

It is finally time to replace my OEM Kenda tires with new Amazon-purchased Michelin City Grip 2s.  From past posts, a new 90-degree tire stem in the rear is something worth having to make it easier to check/add air to the tires.  (The front tire already has the 90-degree stem.)  The KYMCO dealer says this $13 stem requires a special tool so as to not damage the plastic stem during installation.  Questions:
1.  Has anyone heard of this potential installation problem?  (The work will be done by a local Honda dealer but they prefer I buy the stem from KYMCO to be sure it is the correct one.)
2.  Should both front and rear stems be replaced as is done with automobile tires?  Or can the front one be reused?
3.  Should I reject the urge to add an Armor-All-like product to the tires before they are installed on the wheels?  (I want that first turn to be a pleasant one and not land me on the pavement.)

Since the air filter has never been removed, the pre-filter was installed by KYMCO.  It measures 170 mm X 73 mm X 11 mm thick foam.   And since it was grey I couldn't tell just how dirty it was while washing it in soapy water.  (The odometer has 8,500 miles on it.)  There are little barbs on this air filter and the pre-filter has several little holes to clip it onto the filter. Pulling it off tends to rip the foam just enough so that I had to tape it back on.  The filter itself had a small slightly darkened area but it was almost like new.  I agree, this filter doesn't get dirty!  I would love to work in a little foam oil into the pre-filter (like lawn mowers sometimes use) but even a little oil on the paper element would not be a good thing.

Since I removed the air intake restriction, I'll report back if I notice any changes to noise, performance or fuel economy.  The plastic piece was held in position by friction and a drop of RTV; it can be re-inserted.

The tip of the intake tube seems to just dangle about an inch from the front grill-work of the scooter.  If it was somehow clipped into something, it could face directly forward and perhaps increase the ram effect of fast moving air into the engine.  I suspect there would not, however, be a measurable difference in performance.

Sorry, my follow up post got lost in the Internet.  Thanks for all who got me back on track.  The filter housing was reinstalled without the one missing "wood" self-threading screw.  The pre-filter was cleaned and refastened with the help of a couple is strips of electrical tape.  The "puke" tube was checked and it was clean.  The obstruction in the air tube (as discussed in this forum in the past) was removed.  It didn't seem to make much difference but I am glad I removed it.  There is a third screw that holds on the plastic cosmetic strip that needs to be removed when trying to remove the air filter.  It is a small screw below the right side screw.

Thank you Stig for offering to mail me a screw.  I'll won't repeat my comic remark regarding donuts!

The other day I felt it was time to purchase a new filter for my scooter.  I noticed that a screw was missing from the filter mount.  The bolt appears to be an M5 X 1.50 x 20.  However, as seen from the attached picture, the thread size is not 1.50.  In fact, it doesn't match any common size thread.  Nor does it appear to have a consistent thread pattern.  I can only guess that it is some type of a self-taping screw.  I tried to order the part from the KYMCO dealer but the parts person said KYMCO adds a $20 handling fee to a $2 part.  After being directed to a local Lowe's store, I confirmed that they had nothing that would be identical.  (As a side note, the KYMCO dealer didn't seem to believe me that all scooter parts are metric with the possible exception of the mirror mounts.)

Comments?  As is sometimes the case, one missing screw will not let the air filter fall off.  Oh, well, . . .

By the way, the new $29.81 air filter comes with a P/N 17211-LGR5-E10 but doesn't come with a pre-filter (as does the OEM unit) and the parts listing doesn't show an available pre-filter.

170,000 miles on the same oil? I am interested to hear how this is done; are you using an oil centrifuge or some type of dark arts?

These appear to be a hard aluminum alloy.  I don't see how they would "clink" when "crushed."  I actually haven't used them yet but at least they have the required 8 mm interior diameter.  I will still talk to a Toyota parts guy when I get to a Toyota dealership.

I've been looking for the equivalent Toyota drain plug gasket for the drain/fill gear lube plugs.  I found and bought 50 "crunch" gaskets with an 8 mm interior (hole) diameter.  They are manufactured by Uxcell and are sold by Amazon for $8.99.  They don't appear to be special in any way but they will give an opportunity to use  two fresh gaskets each time I replace the 75W-90 gear lube.

The idea of an oil cooler is interesting.  The filter in an oil cooler is even more interesting!  I am too cheap to pay $20 for an oil analysis on my scooter when an regular oil change would be so less expensive.  But I did have a car with annual oil analysis that safely went 170,000 miles and 9 1/2 years without an oil change!  Sadly, the lack of oil filtration changes the game for a small engine.

I've been putting this project off for years after learning in 2015 that the stock 200i 12 V socket has a weak fuse, low grade wiring and it is difficult to replace the fuse.  The project went just like all my projects  . . . all down hill!  By the time that the front cover had to be separated into two pieces I was ready to give up.  The silicone spray, "butter" knife trick, prying and tugging all failed me.  I hadn't broken anything, yet!  After a little meditation I recalled that the real objective was to snake two 12 gauge wires from the glove compartment area to the battery box.  The inside of the glove box already has two plastic cover panels.  So instead of mounting the new socket behind the glove box, I installed it in the glove box.  I also installed a new fuse and fuse holding in the glove box so that I have easy access if the fuse ever needs to be replaced.  The twin USB ports on the low voltage plug gives me the option of powering or charging two devices at a time.

The moral of the story:  Consider seriously what your wife says when she says leave the scooter alone.  The GPS can't be read in the daylight especially when wearing sunglasses.  And the smartphone is only checked occasionally but I normally forget to bring it.  With a 5 amp fuse, there is no limit as to how many devices I could fry before the fuse blows.  But I certainly won't spend more money to buy to lower amperage fuse!

You have no idea what this means when I used the word, "bate?"  As a previous technical writer, on all of my notes from this forum's postings, I have corrected everyone's misspelled words and poor grammar.  Many red pencils were consumed as I made your comments ready for the publisher.  Now because of my own error, the slate scores have been erased and you all pass your written communication skills test!

I have learned a lot about my KYMCO because of this forum.  Thanks!  And in order to make sure you have no sleepless nights, for you, Stig, I refuse to tell you how many miles I put on my Like 200i with Amsoil 100% Synthetic Scooter Motor Oil before changing the oil.  My lips are sealed, forever.

Thanks for your reply.  I haven't checked out my Owner's Manual for a long time.  But this is what mine says:
Tail/brake light      12v 35/35W
Turn signal light    12 v 10W X 4

OK.  You didn't take the "bate."  I'll have to use use a  more direct approach.  This forum has been discussing replacement of standard bulbs with LEDs for years!  From what I read, the potential issue is that many LEDs are not engineered to withstand the heat build up; they have no heat sink.  Another issue is that the LED may not fit in the enclosure space.

Also, I still have nightmares recalling the rechargeable batteries I bought for my walkie-talkies which are sitting on the shelf because I bought the wrong stock number from eBay!  I am waiting for someone to confirm for me that the tail light, for example, is a # 1157, dual filament, bayonet mount.  The nomenclature from KYMCO doesn't provide any useful information since all the bulbs used are 12 VDC and the wattage used will be much lower if LEDs are purchased as a replacement.

Finally. I have to confess , Phase 2 of this thread would lead us into developing a second column for the bulb listing.  That is, what LED bulbs have others bought which they would rate "good" or "very good" for brightness and reliability.  Now, everyone knows what keeps me from sleeping at night and just how lazy I truly am.

Has anyone attempted to compile a list of the common names for the various types of bulbs used in the factory Like 200i?  My Cyclepedia Service Manual lists bulbs such as "Winker 12V 10W" or a "License light 12V 5W."  It would be great to know that the stock directional signal bulb is a GE # 11609 or a license plate light is a # 194.  The KYMCO dealer suggests  the "remove and compare" method.  Maybe I'm getting lazy in my old age but perhaps one of your have taken your own notes at one time or another.  Thanks.
