Oil leak
« on: May 18, 2017, 03:09:19 PM »
After riding and scooter sits over night I have minor drops of oil under crankcase on oil filter side,
Have checked underneath can not figure out where it's coming from? Any ideas where to check.

Oil was leaking small droplets from oil change bolt, seems impossible to get that washer that goes on the bolt, simple fix I used Teflon tape on bolt 3 oil changes no leaks.

Just what de dee said, but ride very, very slowly around the neighborhood. If you ride too fast the wind just blows the stuff everywhere. The likely culprit would be the oil filter seal or the oil drain plug if the crush washer is missing or old.

Clean and degrease the engine from the top down, then go for a few rides. I would check:

- the round cover with a slot in the middle of the engine cover, the o ring can fail. Just retighten if necessary.
- the wires that come out of the top of the right engine cover. They plug into the stator and can also leak being made of plastic.

A tip from Honda riders I once knew...

Clean very well, and dry.

Dust with baby powder and make a very short, runup to temp.

Source of small leaks should become apparent.

Hello VGRAFX and welcome to the forum. You'll like it. One problem I've had with my DT300 is the rubber hose on top of the valve cover, that is the crankcase pressure re-circulation hose, works it's way off of the nipple and begin to seep oil and then blow off and oils everything under the seat tub. It comes from the factory with one of those dinky little wire clamps. I put a screw type hose clamp on and it worked for a while. After it came off a second time, I really tightened the clamp, all I could with a screwdriver. So far so good. It only comes off after long periods of high speed travel. The higher to rpm, the more pressure is released. May not be your problem, at all, but a better hose clamp is in order, regardless. Just my thoughts.

Hi all
I am a new rider with a DT 300i abs scouter
after about 10 days with no problems I notice oil leak under the right side near to the filter ( you can see at the photos )
I notice a little opening 8-10cm right from the filter (as you can see on the marks), I think that from this little opening came the oil.
Does anyone know why? What I must fix to stop that?

Is that the water pump weep hole?.....weeping coolant and flowing to the rear, imitating an oil leak?
Or a breached seal in the water pump, mixing oil and coolant out the weep hole?
You DT owners will know.
Miles and years of this scooter?

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

I don't think that is the ' Water pump weep hole" , it's outside from water pump , the caps that coming out from this hole is oil not water neither mix (water & oil)
The " Telltale Hole " is on the water pump cover (as I found in service manual )

Wouldn't be the first mistake in the service manual. Pick a model!
