Title: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: wordslinger on June 19, 2010, 09:22:45 PM
..so, don't laugh..k?

 ;D

..this people 50 has an oil pump...should the fuel in my fuel tank have oil mixed in it??

..spark plug..the Autolite brand i bought (nobody around here has NGK) is @ 1/16" shorter from the end of the threads to the end of the electrode..problem??

..ya'll be patient with me...

 :o

No, you don't have to mix oil in the fuel as well.  Just make sure that your oil pump is calibrated to open at the same time as the carb!  There are also alignment marks on the oil pump to make sure it is set right.

I'm not certain about the Autolite plug, my guess it that it will be fine though.  I've been using Champion plugs, but I've never compared them that closely to an NGK.

...this thing is scary~quick...

..i'm draining the old fuel out now, as it'll run good for a few minutes, then sputter...

..gotta go get me a can of fix-a-flat so i can take it out on the road to pump my tires up to spec...(need me a compressor)...

..should i get some sea-foam stuff too??..probably should...

..it's almost road-worthy!!

Ha!cant hurt probably why all the smoke in the beginning ,wont hurt to throw an oz.of oil in the tank while blowing the cob webs out and fine tuning. So what did it take to get going so far.have a top speed yet!  Yey!!!

...oh, i've just been spurting around in my driveway so far...

..guess it wasa loose connection at the fuse...that's the only thing i messed with...it's even kick-starting now....starter is still on the guilty...

..it keeps wanting to lose rpms when gigging the throttle...let it idle for 30 seconds or so, then it'll pick back up....then it won't rev again....

..any ideas?

main jet and air filter, for starters, you said it was getting wet yesterday.Sea foam Ha!Chek for dead rat in the pipe and carbin build up.I'v been running the auto lights lately and a step colder, hasn't been cold starting well.Might have to get an ngk or go up one hotter on the autolight. Those vacume tubes do tend to wear at the fitting.Shoud be doing 50 in no time.  ;)
Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: wordslinger on June 19, 2010, 10:55:15 PM
...it only has 7450 kms....air filter is clean...airbox got wet because i was flooding it when it wasn't sparking....

..vac tubes look good...i havent dis-assembled the carb...wanted to see whatshe would do before i got that far...

Time to open that carb, pull the seat bucket.2 bolts on the carb 2 bolts at the bottem of the airfilter unplug bystarter fuel line carb cap it's outta there!See what jet they threw in it #85 or bigger best so far running stock and the 3/8" hole in air box

I'm sure it just needs the carb cleaned out.  It's probably not too bad it if runs right now!  The first time I fired up my Vento it blew a TON of smoke for quite awhile!  That was after I had cleaned the carb!  I think there was just old oil and fuel inside the motor that was burning up.  Have fun, I'm sure you'll love the 2T! ;)
Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: wordslinger on June 19, 2010, 11:17:02 PM
...so, you think i should clean the carb??

..it will idle perfectly...it will rev perfectly...then it will not rev...let it idle for a lil while...then it will rev ok for a while...then it wont..

..it'll idle as long as i want it to at one turn out (service manual spec) of the mix screw...then it may or may not respond to throttle twist...

Im still trying to burn the crap outa my 2002 so i can go to a full synthetic.I guess I could just drain it,I'm such a cheap basterd!I figured I'd run it for my 100 mile break in Ha!4 tanks of gas still have more than I know what to do with.

Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: Shaka on June 22, 2010, 01:50:57 AM
It's normal for oil to come out the exhaust.  I have to clean my exhaust all the time.  Really every time I ride if I was that anal about it!

I got a 2005 with 10,000 on it pulled the head, can still see the factory hone, the gal I bought it from never derestricted it,ran belray synthetic,it was a bit gunked up at the pipe. It"s the one I'm doing my stock build on as is.You did derestrict? So far so good,I do have some oversize pistons on order though. If i had some stock rings I would have put them in.They seem to be hard to get.

Post by: wordslinger on June 24, 2010, 11:28:22 PM
..so, my air filter element is coming apart...

..wasn't planning on doing so right now, but imma have to install a free-flow...

..so, typically, what should i look for in a main jet size on a stock engine...

..imma drill it out, so i don't wanna go too big right off the bat...
Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: art on June 24, 2010, 11:37:06 PM
an #85 is a good start if going for that pipe a #95 if doing the squish also #120+ I think Ha!I'm still to lean on the stock build.I do have a couple stock air boxes if you want one probably a waste.
Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: wordslinger on June 24, 2010, 11:51:34 PM
...well the deal is, i just had to push it about a quarter mile...

..opened the airbox, and it's full of shredded air filter...damn..gonna have to open that carb after all...

..never been in a 2-stroke carb...

..it'll fire with starting fluid, but i'm not getting fuel from the intake side of the carb when i choke it off with my finger...

..figured i might as well go ahead and open the jet and put the old k&n on it...
Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..

There very simple,Told ya to look for that dead rat Ha!Get rid of that stupid rubber boot while your at it'Its sopposed to keep your fuel from freezing, don't think you'll be ridding much at 40 below, just seems to collect dirt and get in the way!
Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: wordslinger on June 25, 2010, 01:49:52 AM
..well, the 85 jet is waay lean...couldn't get out of the driveway....

..so, given the hour, i wrapped my filter a cpl times with a handi-wipe and electrical tape until tomorrow...

...also installed the NCY kit outta MY guilty and HOLY MOTHER O' GOD!!!

..the stock 8.5 rollers, with the lighter bits of the ncy kit made this thing super-quick!!!

...still kickin' myself in the ass for not buying a ppl instead of the guilty....

..i had a choice...
Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: art on June 25, 2010, 03:55:54 AM
DidnT think the k/n would make that much difference, might have to look at one of those.Never tried with the older stock pipe you might need to jump to a #95 You can also raise that needle a bit, used some gasket material. On my stock build the carb is holding me back right now pilot too lean had to mod the needle to get 2 pieces of gasket material in and my #115 main is still lean.Ya I had a 2007 vino 125 and the people out perfomed it in every aspect,With mods I don't think there are too many scoots out there under 125cc that can keep up.I liked it so much any time i see a complete one under a $700 i buy it.I had 4 sold the 2009 to my sister last week.

Title: Re: ..totally newb 2-stroke questions..
Post by: wordslinger on June 25, 2010, 10:59:35 PM
...something broke loose in my exhaust on that run while riding at 55 mph...

..sounded like it took load off the engine, and i could hear the high-pitch two-stroke sound from my exhaust, as well as the carb intake thru the k&n...

..previously, the exhaust sounded a lot like the a50's....

..sea foam rulz!!...

peace

..the ncy kit i put in has an aluminum drive face...

..less than half the weight of the oem face...

..with the stock 8.5s, the lighter drive face and the longer belt...i love the way this scoot performs...

..just wish it was as comfortable as the a50...
