Factual inaccuracy.
Not the same motor as the downtown.
Sad when a motor vehicle review makes bad statements about the motor.....

It seems like SYM got of to the wrong foot in the US right off the bat and never fully recovered. The PGO scooters (Buddy) sold by Genuine have done well because they have a good distributor that has marketed well and supports their product.

Genuine has its problems. No question they sell a bunch of buddies but that’s about it.
The Stella’s , now out, sat in showrooms. Hooligans and roughhouse, ehh.

They have a tough road ahead.

Alliance Powersports picked up SYM.
https://www.alliancepowersports.com
They had a pre-existing relationship with SYM to produce Lance bikes so it seemed a reasonable jump.

As far as why SYM hasn't recovered, I'd tend to think it's how they're treating dealers & customers, that the market's still weak & Kymco solidly, & competently filling the niche they'd compete in, thus making it tougher to get traction.
Our local SYM/Kymco dealer doesn't stock a lot of SYMs.  He mostly sells Lance & Kymco.

About the only SYMs I ever see him stock are Fiddles, & HD200s, & the Wolf.  He used to keep the SYMBA in stock as well, but those were discontinued.

Personally I think the industry as a whole is missing out on some opportunities to help push the practical side of bikes as inner city transportation by hitting up the cities and such for parking, lane splitting and related.  Maybe get in the press as something other than "Motorcyclist killed"

Bingo sir !

Most Kymco/SYM dealers simply prefer not to deal with the problems SYM creates for them. Self induced failure.

At one time my mega dealer had every SYM in the line on the floor. No more. Plenty of lance as you stated. That’s for the price point, hard to beat. But not a single new SYM except the fiddle.

They’ve created their own hell far past the fires. My RV200 was the best scoot I’ve ever owned and I’ve had 2 cali classics I love. But they are the last I’ll own.

I don’t have long term trust in them and I have beaten the drum for the in the past. No longer.

You’re a air cooled guy plenty of choices better than a Miata.
Health forcing my hand to more convertible miles than scooter miles.
That’s life.

It’s nice to be able to walk into their stores and sit on just about every Kymco/SYM available.
Also nice to know they not going anywhere anytime soon.

"This is the second fire to affect Carter Brothers. The plant was rebuilt after a fire in 2000. The decision to rebuild has not yet been made."

Alas they were inconsolable being out of business in the bust period.

That is a large part of why SYM isn't real big in the U.S.

Ok guys those fires were over 15 years ago and have little to do with why SYM is weak today.
Not caused by a warehouse fire at this point. It’s because of a lack of fire in those not setting up the proper dealer network.

They are also known for being a bit difficult with the dealerships they have.

Less then 10 miles to my local full service Kymco, SYM, genuine dealer.
Been that way for almost two decades and they are growing.

We be lucky here.

Call weight watchers it lost 25 plus lbs.
Of course it begs the question. Why did Honda make the first wave of Forzas get so porky ?

General Discussion / Re: Another New Spade owner
« on: January 20, 2018, 12:04:18 PM »
Hi everyone, great site y'all have here.
I was close to picking up a Sym Wolf 150 Classic when a buddy told me about the Spade... did a little searching, found this site and did some reading.  Next day I went to my favorite dealer, a couple of hours later I was riding my new Kymco around the parking lot.
I'll still probably get that Sym, as I have an unhealthy obsession with small displacement bikes.  ;D
Still has less than 20 miles on it, as I wait for a day off without rain, snow or single-digit temperatures.
It's white... I'd post a pic if I could figure out how.
Looking forward to posting/reading more!

I have almost 2k on my spade and it’s a hoot for sure.
It does have a design flaw. The front wheel always seems to want to leave the pavement........😉

Deliverance , Florida swamp.......huh ?
You’re confused for sure.

Where then? Georgia? Somewhere hot, swampy and hillbilly-ish anyway.

Squeal like a piggy.

Yikes geography....

Ok let’s start here. Ya need hills to be a “Hillbilly” so that takes out florida.
Hard to have swampy and hillbilly together. I think what you’re looking for is a combo of swampy and redneck. That’s more old Florida..........

Back to the flick. It took place on a fictional North George river. North George has the hills ya need for the hillbilly. All Georgia is not flat like the coast.

Now did ya know the first true hillbillies were Scottish immigrants.
