General Discussion / Back in the Fold

Hi, I'm a long time member who owns a 2004 Super 9 liquid cooled, and a 2010 Yager 200.  I had a stroke about 5 years ago, and the scoots have been parked ever since. Now I'm retired (3+ years) and decided to try and resuscitate the Yager.  I tried to charge the battery but could not get any results, to I took it to an auto parts store who tested it, and they said "you're good to go!"  Holy cow, I put the battery in the scoot, tried to start it about 8 times, let it rest 15 minutes and then it started right up!!!!  After 5 years. Now, I've put on about 400 miles the last 3 weeks and am loving the performance  and quality feel of this unique scooter! Only 5900 miles on it, but I'm gonna be adding a lot more as I'm without a car right now. My spring/summer just got a whole lot better.
I'm glad to be back riding my Kymco!

Yager GT 200i / Check Your Battery!
« on: November 13, 2012, 01:55:20 PM »
Last week, the mighty Yager was a little difficult to start, and after a couple of days, refused to even turn over.  I pulled the battery, and called the dealer, who said that he would have to order a new one.  A bummer as I have owned the scoot less than 2 years!   I didn't really want to wait so I examined the battery which I always ASSUMED was sealed.  There was a small cover covering the cell tops, and I pried off easily with a screwdriver.  The battery was DRY!  I filled up the cells with distilled water, and let sit for a day after giving a gentle shake to mix things up.  The next day, I hooked up to a test charger which indicated that the battery was fully charged!!!!  I hooked back up to the Yager and it started like new!  Of course I had to take on a nice long ride to celebrate.

Note, I have no additional accessories hooked up to the electrical system, and keep the battery on a battery tender during the winter months.

So, I recommend everyone check your Yager battery before you put into storage for the winter, and before reinstalling in the spring.  It is easy to pull the top cover and check the cells.  This is not a 'Maintenance free' battery!

Yager GT 200i / Speed!
« on: June 18, 2012, 12:53:19 PM »
My Yager 200 gt is well broken in but this year so far been only used for short to medium trips no more than 50 mph.  Early Saturday morning I was out on 290 expressway in Chicago with little traffic and the scoot felt good so I ran it up to 70 mph!!!!  The last 5 mph took a little time but we made it!  I wouldn't want to run there all day (even between 55 and 65 mph I tend to vary the speed) but it's good to know the engine has loosened up a bit and the top end is available.

This is pretty awesome for a <200cc scoot that gets 75-85 miles per gallon!

General Discussion / Finally out of the..........

........GARAGE!  The weather has been unusually great in Chicagoland this week.  Battery back in the Yager 200, and insurance back into effect.  Also, rain has washed away all the winter road salt.  The Yager started instantly after over 3 months - bravo to fuel injection and gas stabilizer.  Checked the tires and out she went.  Wow, I sure missed this feeling.   Next week I'll change the oil and check the valves.  Then I'm ready for Spring/Summer.  Just in time for the expensive gas!  Let's Go.

Just thankful to have chosen a great scoot like this.

Yager GT 200i / Yager 200i - Initial Comments
« on: March 24, 2011, 05:45:56 PM »
Just a few random initial observations for those who have the Yager on their shopping list:

1.  The, um, styling looks much better in person!  Then again, when you are the rider, you don't have to look at the front end!

2.  The grayish-silver model I chose has a bit of sparkle in the paint which looks really cool in direct sunlight.

3.  The dashboard is one of the nicest I've ever seen on a scooter with a warm blue glow at night.  Functional and awesome to look at.  And the speedometer is very accurate when checked with a GPS.

4.  The turnsignals front and rear are nicely integrated and are not add-ons to be Fed compliant like my Super 9 and some other Kymco models.

5.  The seat looks very nice, but I can already tell it's gonna be tough to last over 30-40 minutes on it.

6.  The Yager has a very nice ride compared to the 50cc Super 9 and the handling and brakes appear to be top notch.

7.  The luggage rack appears to be useless, I'll eventually order the Givi rack and trunk as others on this forum have done.

8.  So far, I have had no problems or issues and the finish and assembly of the scoot appears to be first rate with nice touches everywhere.

9.  Instantaneous starting due to the fuel injection.

10.  I'm pretty gentle breaking in machinery, although I have taken the Yager up to 55mph with a burst up to 60mph.  Engine has plenty of power, and I have no doubt will be able to go 65-70mph after break-in.  Over 50-55mph the scoot is a little twitchy due to the 12" and 13" wheels.  This is not a scooter for long trips at top speed on any 'limited-access' highway.  But it will be fine for stretches of 50-55mph roads and definately a blast on 55mph back roads.  It is NOT a maxi scoot though.

That's all for today.  I can't wait for the weather to clear.  I plan on 'parking' the car this summer!

Yager GT 200i / Picked up the new Yager!
« on: March 22, 2011, 07:30:14 PM »
The weather broke last week here in Chicago area, and I was finally able to pickup the Yager 200 I purchased last month.  I've put on about 160 miles on it so far (5 days) carefully varying the speed but also going up to 55-60 mph for very short periods of time.  This thing accelerates in traffic effortlessly and the speedometer as many have noted seems to be right on the money (GPS maybe 1 mph optimistic.)

Seems like a good purchase so far, I'll try to do a lengthier report in the future.  I do appreciate this site!

General Discussion / Hi - New Member
« on: March 08, 2011, 06:05:56 PM »
Hi, I am a new member and this is my first post.  Recently I purchased a new 2010 Yager 200 at my local Honda / Kymco dealer.  Got a nice price as the scoot is a leftover 2010.  As there still is snow & rain here in Chicagoland, I will take delivery in the next week or so.

The Yager will replace my 2004 Kymco Super 9, which I feel is one of the nicest (and funnest) vehicles I have ever owned.

The reason I'm replacing the Super 9 is due to the projected rise in gas prices and the need for me to access more areas around Chicago by scooter.  The top speed of the Super 9 was around 48 mph so I was a little limited as to the roads I could travel on.

The Yager still has smallish wheels (12" & 13") so it retains some of the quick handling of the Super 9 but will enable me to do some freeway travel also.  I'm also really looking forward to the high mpg that has been reported on the Yager.

I'll post again after I pickup the scooter.
