People GT 300i / Re: Dr Pulley sliders NO GOOD!
« on: November 05, 2016, 01:11:06 AM »
So I would like to give an update on a couple of things. Sliders have been known to "Flip" as mentioned earlier. When installed some dry lube can help and insuring you have a properly lubed drive boss is important. It is also common for people to allow the sliders to flip during installation. I did this more than once the first time I installed them on my Burgman. After one flips it is more likely an additional slider can flip. You can usually tell it happens by a change in rpms and reduction in performance. Don't worry just take CVT apart and clean everything and put back together being careful.

Since my last post I have installed the 14 gram sliders in my People 300. (Yes I have a DT 300 as well, )
I have only put about 100 miles on this bike since installation  but the performance increase is terrific. From a dead stop it gained, from the middle it is a beast now and on the top ending is more responsive. It gained about 5-6 mph on top end.

I have put the DP Sliders in my 2011 downtown 14gr and they are fantastic. From the line and mid range much improved. Top end about the same. 15 would drop the rpms some on top end and probably give a little more speed at the detriment of low end performance.

Having said all of that I want to speak up on the topic of Sliders versus rollers and the comment about ramp geometry not being congruent. THAT is not true 95% of the time on all scooters. Sliders are an awesome and a no brainer improvement that almost without exception provide improvements in a couple of ways. I don't mean to take away from anyone's opinion or preference but this has been the real world experience I have had.

I have had sliders in my Downtown 300, Burgman 400 (30k miles), HD 200 , majesty 400, BV 500, people 250, Honda Helix, MP3 250, MP3 400, MP3 500,  ridicuous amounts of Chinese bikes and had excellent results without exception. Some of these bikes for 10-30 K miles. Some of these were group members bikes. More info avail upon request.

I now own a People 300 and am about to put sliders in it. Don't fear the sliders they are ROCK solid...in the one catastrophic failure mentioned on this board there could have been extenuating circumstances that could have caused it. Again not trying to tear down anyone's experiences or comments but rather calm any fears and set the record straight on Dr pulley sliders ...don't by clone slider IMHO.

Not sure if you have found all the info you needed on this topic...

I use the Ram mount on the left brake reservoir and I like it. I recently found a two piece arm for the ram that makes it even a little better. I use the large. X-Grip from RAM to hold my IPhone 6Plus. I was still worried it may pop out in extreme situations so I found a rubber piece from ram that holds the corners to the XGRip and it is very secure now.

Not saying it is the best solution because it kind of blocks my vision of the speedo a little...I have to look around it a little.

The plus is it is forward in my vision and is easy to click stuff on the phone if I need to while riding. Reaching between handlebars to top of dash never felt comfortable to me on other bikes.

Glad it's working out for you Nireen...

I have had the Givi on my DT for around a month and put about 1000 miles on the bike with it. I am about 5'10" ish and the windshield is still a bit short in my opinion. I look barely over it most of the time and sometimes through it. That is annoying, I wish it was taller or shorter. I said it is still too short because I still get some buffeting of wind around my helmet, but it is much much better than stock.

I did lose a 2-3 Mph I would say, but not enough to care. I like the windshield overall.

On my People 300 with the Puig I don't even need to wear a helmet if I don't want...all buffeting around head is gone. But that's a horse of another color.

I chose the Dr. pulley 20/12 14 gram sliders after must thought and reading. I have the Leah7 2011 Downtown. Amazing off the line and mid speed with these lost about 4-5 mph off the top end...but who needs to go 90+...high 80's is fine.

I wouldn't consider 15 based on using these.

Downtown 300 / Re: Anyone found touchup paint yet?

I haven't tried that yet, but thanks for the idea. I did try some white acrylic paint from craft store today. It was just too WHITE. I notice the Downtown has a little metal flake when viewed closely in direct bright light. Gonna be a little hard to match decently I think...I am open to all ideas.

I know this might sound crazy, but did you try nail polish? I had a scratch on the metallic gray seat pillion. Went to autozone and bought 3 different grays. When looking at the cap, it looks really close to the color, but when you spray it, it always dries different. I went to a local beauty supply store and found something, pretty close but not exact and it was only $2 or $3.

I recently bought a People 300 from a friend of Mine. It has a Puig tall screen not sure height, but I like it. I have two 300 cc kymcos a DT and. People. I ride the people more like a cruiser and the PUIG does greeeeat at keeping air away from me. No helmet needed at all to escape wind noise and being able to smoke at top speed.

If anyone wants more info feel free to ask or PM me

Downtown 300 / Re: tire replacement time
« on: May 29, 2016, 04:56:10 AM »
This post is semi out of location, but I feel pertinent so hopefully you all don't gig me for that.

I very recently posted that I put Pirelli Diablo's on my Downtown and have used these tires on other scooters to great success. I may not have mentioned that I own a People 300GTi as well as my downtown and I picked up a nail a few days ago in the rear.

Luckily I was at my groups clubhouse and we recently purchased a tire changing machine and spin balancer. The only thing I needed was some tires. Well you all have been talking so positive about these Metzeler Feel Frees I decided to go ahead and put them this bike. Even though its not a fair comparison since the bikes are so different in center of gravity and diameter of tire.

So I have had them on for several days now and I can confirm the Feel Frees on the PEOPLE are very stable grip well and don't seem to have much "Line Groove" drift from those lines they cut into the highways in so many places.

The Diablo did a little better on that highly grooved super-slab, but the Feel Free's did well. The Diablo's still perform better in the curves. I do have a great respect for the Metzelers so far...they are just different...If they hold up better than the Pirreli's (which it would be shocking if they didn't) they may still be a more viable tire for many. Pirelli's are certainly cheaper in this instance, but that may be because the PEOPLE has 16" tires versus the 13/14 n the DT.

I will post some more review on the tires in a week or so after a long trip down to US129 The Dragon in two weeks with the club.

P.S. If anyone is interested in meeting up down at the Dragon or riding down together let me know.

I know  a couple people have moved to the feel free's from the Pirelli Diablo, I haven't tried them yet. I just replaced some Maxxis tires on my Downtown with the Pirelli Diablo's and they are excellent in handling and traction on this bike.

I have gone through about 5 rears on my Burgman 400 of the Diablo's same size as the downtown and I can't speak highly enough about them as far as performance. They do wear faster than other tires I have had...but are cheap enough to not really care.

Since several people speak highly of the Metzers I will probably try a set of them, but you can't go wrong stability, traction or fun wise with the Pirelli's. Plan on about 15% shorter life though.

Hello, if new to replacing CVT parts (rollers, sliders, clutch, belt, etc.) on your scooter - search out a bunch of youtube CVT, scooter belt, scooter rollers, etc. videos for Kymco or other scooters.
Alternately - you can purchase a service on-line or hard copy manual from cyclepedia.com, probably.

It will get you more familiar with the procedure.
Here are a couple to look at:

Lots of scooter CVT vieos on youtube.
Stig

I felt compelled to through my two cents in on YouTube for this bike.

I do many of my own repairs, some al e some with a friend helping and I have relied heavily on YouTube in the past...but the quality and lack of video of any quality for a decent variety of tasks seems to be lacking in a pretty serious way. If you can find a basic video it is foreign and you can't read or understand what's being said.

I love my kymco DT 300 so much I just went and bought a People GTI. But I came for Burgmans and I guess we got spoiled by Mcbiergsma and Ledude who undertook every task on the 400 and 650. They would video the task multiple times include tools, sometimes where to buy parts and the video production quality was great. I just keep searching for a couple fanatics like that for my Kymco needs
