Yager GT 200i / Purchasing a new scooter
« on: May 03, 2013, 04:16:56 PM »
Ok, here is my dilema, I'm either going with a Kymco People GT 300i or a Piaggio BV 350. I'm leaning towards the BV 350. They both will do highway speeds with no problem and then some, both get in the range of 65 mpg, but the Piaggio has a 3.4 gallon fuel tank vs the Kymco's 2.4.

Any thoughts? I like both, they are comparable in price, the Piaggio is a few hundred dollars more, so no big deal there.

Yager GT 200i / Disassembly of front end, not fun
« on: July 31, 2012, 11:21:09 PM »
Well, I bought my Yager for $1900 with only 107 miles on it, so got a killer deal.  The reason why is the older gentleman that had it dumped it over in gravel trying to turn, slow speed, so it scratched the upper and lower plastic, $184 shipped for both.  I did end up getting a new brake lever also, even though it had minor scratches.

So today I took apart the whole front end. I took some pictures, but not when I had the lower skirts off of each side, which I did.  Many screws in the front end, here are a couple of pictures so that others can reference, I can tell you exactly how to do it, the service manual sucks.

I just wanted to show some pictures for reference, you can see how to get to the headlight bulb, which requires you to remove the whole upper plastic and windshield, there is also another shield like unit behind the windshield.

Now my machine is like new, not a scratch on it.  Thought about keeping the other plastic, but I hate crap laying around.  Could try sanding it down and painting, I have the air compressor and spray guns, but I don't plan on dumping it anytime soon lol.

Yager GT 200i / Highway bars
« on: June 06, 2012, 06:49:12 AM »
Anyone make anything like this?  It sure would be nice to put a set of highway bars on it, I have a welder and probably could make some, the hard part would be attaching them securely.  I've seen them  for other scooters, haven't seen any for the Yager?

I'm just looking for something like footpegs that fold up when not in use, and not protruding out the sides when not in use.

I have an idea for them, and have a set of factory KLR650 footpegs, I could probably make something, maybe I need to start building them and marketing them?

these are ones I've seen on the Zuma:

I think these were on the Burgman:

Yager GT 200i / Slippery Floorboard?
« on: June 06, 2012, 06:47:57 AM »
I hate the slippery floorboard, if I wanted to stand up while riding to stretch out, i'm worried about slipping.

So my question, anyone use anything to make it less slippery?  I have a role of skateboard tape, can cut out patterns to put on the floor and the smaller forward parts where i put my feet sometimes.  I can clean the floorboard with isopropyl alcohol and then stick down the skateboard tape....anyone else done this?

Yager GT 200i / Holy Cow - Fuel mileage
« on: June 03, 2012, 08:01:28 PM »
I just finished a ride, odometer had 204.5 miles when i left, 368 when i got back for 163.5 total miles ridden today.  When i got back i filled up, 1.7 gallons, wow, that is 96 MPG.  Anyone else get that high of gas mileage??

I rode pretty hard, first 10 miles I rode it at redline on the interstate to get to Route 66, so that was at 65 mph.  All riding was higher elevations, my house is at 5300 feet, so I probably rode from 4500 - 6500 feet elevation.  Average speed was probably 55 mph.

It took a long time before one bar dropped on the gas gauge and I ended the ride with it just dropping to 2 bars.

I know guys using these on their motorcycles and ATV's

as with other tracking measures, have to be careful of things like 'no monthly fee's', which is usually BS.  Have read good and bad, I think putting in an on/off switch, and making sure you modify your online account issue so you're not using monthly 'exchanges', have to read more about this one.

Anyone have others that they have tried?  Of course LoJack has been around a long time here in the states, sure there are others

although my preference is long range protection lol :

Yager GT 200i / Good way to change transmission fluid
« on: May 19, 2012, 09:33:32 PM »
The book calls for .2 qt or .18L, well .18L is 180ml (to be technical about it, .2 qt is 189ml).  The draining isn't a problem, remove the 10mm drain bolt, spin the rear wheel to get all the fluid out, put the bolt back in.

The problem is filling, knowing how much 180ml is and getting it in that little hole.  This is what I use:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/2-Big-Syringes-60cc-60ml-with-Caps-Dispense-Adhesives-Glue-Grease-Paste-Gel-Oil-/110846106763?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19cef15c8b

The syringe is 60 ml, put your new fluid in to a cup (easier than sucking out of the bottle), draw 60ml in to the syringe, fits perfectly in the fill hole.  Do this 3 times, you have 180ml, and only takes a minute.

I also pull apart the syringe when i'm done and clean it, can be used for many times

« on: May 15, 2012, 11:27:00 PM »
if you want some extra keys, you can get them here:

http://mysecuritypro.com/kymcokym2rmotorcyclekeyblanks.aspx

the more you buy, the cheaper they are, i got 2 extra's which were $2.36 each plus shipping, got a local locksmith to cut the keys, work great.

The key I got was the Silca KYM2R

Yager GT 200i / Battery draining issue
« on: May 10, 2012, 06:05:27 PM »
I bought the Yager recently, traded in to a dealer that wasn't a kymco dealer, guy dropped it over on its side, so had some scrapes on the right side, ordered all the parts for it and dealer said it also had a battery draining issue.  I paid less than half the cost of a new one, scooter was mint shape other than the scrapes which I already ordered the panels, $184 shipped, and the battery draining issue.

So I pulled off the negative wire on the battery, put a test light between the battery terminal and the wire i pulled off, it is not lighting up the test light, could be the 12v/5w light needs to be less.  I put a DVM on it set on amps, measures .003 amp drain.  So may put on a LED to see if it lights it up, need to run to radio shack to pick one up.

I left the key in last night after putting the wire back on the battery, put the key in the lock position, and had no drain overnight.  I've seen problems on motorcycles where the ignition caused the drain, but not sure yet what is draining the battery on the yager.
The yager is charging the battery correctly, but when sitting has a slow drain.  Just wondering if anyone has seen this on their vehicle or another Kymco?

I did read about someone removing the bulb for the light in the met-in box, but thats not the problem on my machine, it is something else.

If I can get a constant drain and be able to see on the test light, I can remove fuses one by one to figure out the area that is causing the drain and go from there, just looking for advice or anyone else that has experienced this.

Thanks.
Dave.

« on: May 08, 2012, 08:24:27 PM »

Yager GT 200i / What engine oil and transmission fluid?
« on: May 08, 2012, 06:41:48 AM »
I picked up a used 2010, 108 miles on it.  So it is like new, sat in a garage, so the oil, filter has never been changed.

Was wondering what people are running for oil?  I also noticed, the stock oil looks red, what the heck are they putting in there from the factory?

Anyone running a synthetic after it has broke in, like Mobil 1?  What oil and viscosity are you running?

On the transmission fluid, the manual just calls for SAE 90 weight fluid, any recommendations?
