Malossi Kevlar belt longevity?
« on: March 27, 2018, 11:19:51 AM »
Anyone got some mileage/longevity info to share regarding the Malossi Kevlar belt longevity?

I've never used anything but original Kymco belts (owned 3 different Kymco scoots and work at a kymco shop so..), but I got this
one as a spare from the previous owner so might as well use it. I've got around 4000 miles on it now.

Anyone made one snap?

Setup: Stock CVT, Polini clutch.

Throw it out or you will be left in the middle of the road with a broken belt. I had one and it snapped in short order. The belt is only to be used with the Malossi variator, PERIOD. It is shorter than stock, and very narrow. Won't last long. :'( :-*

I know that they last a bit less, but I've put a lot of them in various other scooters and no one had a failure that I'd consider premature.
Damn OEM belt is so expensive tho.. :(

I remember Vivo saying that Kevlar belts can do a lot of damage inside the CVT when they break.
I hear over & over that stock KYMCO belt is the way to go.

I hear it over & over - belt sold by KYMCO is the way to go.

Working at the bike shop I "hear" a lot of things too.

I was looking for XC500 owner's first hand experience in here.
So.. anyone?  :(

Ok , I understand what you're  saying.
Since you seem to be in a position to know --- I am curious, does anyone else use that big 500 motor in their scooters?

I have a Malossi belt in my 2007 500. Only have about one thousand miles on it, so I can't vouch for its longevity. Seemed to fit fine when I installed it.

I have 2013 xciting 500ri with the malossi cariator, malossi fly clutch and the malossi Kevlar belt.  Have about 9000 miles on it and still looks new,  no issues.

thanks

I just replaced the belt, it's at just over 4000 miles and worn more then the stock at over double the mileage, multiple cracks, many places where it's missing tiny bits etc.
