First ride on scooter to Tim H's this year, and also first ride on my new Michelin Power Pure in very greasy conditions.
I had no 'moments' with the new tire; riding on city streets cornering across a vast number of painted road strips and wet steel plates. But then I'm a cautious rider, and not a center-stand scraper even on a sunny day.
I'm looking for more center wear and less shoulder wear this time around, which is sometimes a sign of under inflation or over loading. So, after some experimenting - I'm carrying a couple more PSI in this tire than I did in the City Grip rear tire, yet the ride feels as though the tire is as supple as was the City Grip on 3 lbs less.
Will probably replace the front City Grip (dated Sept. 2012) with a new P. Pure this year. Still good tread and no cracking. (probably from being garaged all its life)

No one else got the email about today's Scooter Meet at Tim Horton's ?

Me too Karl!

Just got my Power Pure front and rear sneakers for my Downtown, delivered from Bike Bandit (cheapest price), yesterday. Still too much snow/calcium chloride/sand on roads to ride right now, but- looking forward to them !
-
I got the email, but the GPS coordinates you sent has the meetup in Hoboken NJ. :o
-
Yes, I got the mail too, but couldn´t get arranged quickly enough the shipping of my scooter and booking a flight. I would definately need some more prep time. But nevertheless I hope you all had a pleasant day and a fun meeting with Stig and his Like. :) ;)
-
Yes, well, there may have been some typos in my announcement.....
because the Stig was buying!
The Stig will be hosting another Scooter Greet & Eat @ T. Horton's on the 34th of June.

I hope you are shooting DIY video of this Karl if you are mounting these your good self!
Feel free to edit the audio.....this is a PG13 forum!)
Partial to the Harmonikats doing the Beatles White Album.

Front was so easy. Good idea to shoot some stills of the rear. Wilco. No sound for self-protection!

Karl,
do you use any machines or special tools for the removal and the install of the tires, or do you do it manually by hand - the old fashioned way like bicycle tires? Are your new PP´s reinforced? Hard to put them on? Balancing at home?
Or does that all the tire shop for you?

It's my understanding Robo, that nearly all of our rear scooter tires are reinforced. ......with stiffer sidewalls. Fronts are not reinforced.

Two hands, two tools. Gotta pry off the first time. These new Michelin Power Pure sc give the DT300i a very light feel. We will see how long the dual compound works for miles.
-
These get it off and put it on. Squirt bottle with a heavy mix of Murphy oil cleaner works better than detergent.
-
Two ounces of BB's do the trick for balancing. That's about one half inch of BB's in the bottom of that shot glass.
-
These original Maxxis have a date code of 2012 which is OK for a 2013 model scoot. But look at the weather check right at the bead!

Looks like you got that one changed just in time Karl! That fissure could have separated and blown out any time. Good job sir. How did you break the bead?

Murphy oil and my thumbs.

Thanks Karl for posting the pictures. Herewith I am looking very relaxed forward to my my tire changes. :)
-
Murphy's oil is a stroke of genius Karl. Next time I change mine, I need to borrow your thumbs!
-
Aw, shucks! Youse guys too kind! Itza wonder I got the pictures posted. Stig can tell you how primitive I am when it comes to pictures!

Ya done good Karl. Reel good. :)
-
And for those who want to borrow Karls strong thumbs I´ve got a special hint. ;)
You could also try to use 2 c-clamps some inches apart from each other to break the bead on the one hand and help to install the new one on the other hand afterwards. Might be at least an interesting option for the reinforced stiffer tires. :)
-
I used a long and a short 2x4 last time for bead breaker, under the bumper of a trailer. Have 2x4's here but dint wanna cut any so I used thumbs and just "worried" them off! C-clamps are a great idea!

Here is an interesting creative method with c-clamps and zip-ties:

The new tire installed is a Michelin City Grip bye the way. ;)
Nearly as easy as changing a bycicle tire. :)

Great video! Had not thought about cable ties but they really simplify things!

I have to say after just a few miles these Michelin PPsc tires take longer to heat up and cool off quicker than the Maxxis or the Metzelers.

I've been running Power Pure's on the Like front and rear since around 7k miles. Original rear caught a nasty screw. Had to replace the rear around 14k due to wear. I like the tires a lot, very grippy, but they do not last as long as advertised. I've had a power pure on the rear of my burgman for about 5k miles and it's still ok, but there is noticeable wear. I think I might go back to the boppers on the burgman once this one wears out and look into some s1's for the Like when due.

Karl, how long have you been using this BB method for balancing ?
Do you ever run the tire 1st, to see if it is objectionable ?
I've heard of this method for years, and never tried it, myself...
Tnx

First DT300i had three sets of tires, all but one set balanced with Dyna Beads. One set with BB's. All were absolutely perfect as far as my "seat of the pants" sensation. That was for three years to when it was stolen and wrecked. This DT300i is NOS 2013 and replaced both tires at about 4000 miles and used BB's. Same deal. BB's cheap and effective. No downside noticed so far. I static balanced motorcycle tires/wheels years ago with solid lead wire wrapped around the spokes and it was a PITA! Was the only thing at the time...
