Xciting 500i Tire(d)
« on: February 19, 2024, 04:42:55 PM »
Couple of days ago a friend of mine stopped by and ask for my opinion about his rear tire.
(pls see pics)
I haven't seen such a run down tire since I was at Middle East many years ago.
This tire was first of all from 2012 and then used up until its carcasse is shown. Interestingly it held air and was not too bad to ride.
This is what one could call economical use of a Michelin City Grip.
Happy and safe scootering, Ruffus

What a shocking case of neglect - of his own safety as much as the tyre!  (Testament to Michelin CGs though!)

Well said, Neil.
Ah btw, got an ANLAS 150 70 14 66 winter grip 2 for my XC too. Put it on a spare rim
We'll see how it behaves. Just wanted to try for fun. Pics will follow.
EDIT:
-ANLAS tire €73,-
-used rim  and brake disc €30,-
-used swingarm €17,-
-bearing and oilseal for swingarm €27,-
-tire mounting at shop (rim and tire brought) €10,-

So I will change the whole wheel and swingarm for we plan a several days tour into mountain area next month
(Panoramica Delle Vette, nordern Italy) where we have mostly gravel roads (main reason for this tire).

your friend had to ask your opinion of the condition of his tire?? Was he under the impression it was still good? Wow! That's a worn out tire!

When you cut through a tire w a hacksaw or angle grinder, you see how tough of a carcass they have.
2014 BV 350  "IndiGO" (fast, strong and tireless)
2006 Honda Rebel 250  "Snow Leopard" (stealthy, agile and durable)
2018 Lance Cali Classic 200i  "Black Panther" (smooth, nimble, quiet and quick)
2016 Wolf V-50 (sold)

Wanted a Kymco, ended up w a Lance, but that forum is inactive, so I am here

Be interested in your opinion Ruffus.

I am very impressed with my Anlas on the rear - so much so, I'm seriously looking at a matching front!  The roads here are still a bit iffy as we've had a lot of rain and cool weather leaving all sorts of mud & detritus on the rural roads.  It's coping with all that admirably and today on a rare dry day and a clean stretch of bends, I was able to crank the DTX over to angles comparable to those reached on my hitherto favourite rubber, the good old Michelin City Grip 2s!  If the Anlas delivers me 3,000 miles on the rear, then I think they'll have won me over completely.

Neil

@hawk: as for my friend, he is 82 yrs old .....
@Neil: lets see how this tire works for me...
..an option would be for a front tire HEIDENAU   K60,  have no experience with that.
Goodyear, Mitas.. just a few to name here in EU, all of them seem to be reasonable.

Without all those wasteful tread sipes he's getting some really great dry pavement grip. Like a drag bike!

Perhaps he was holding out for the Rapture with this tire.

And, I'm feeling a little peculiar.

Gave him my sparewheel with a semi good CITY GRIP on it, and one hour later he was on the street again.

He's gota small pension. Had the spare anyway, might not change back from ANLAS to tarmac-only tyre.

Camnot say yet, just installed and did a test ride of maybe ten kilometers, backroads. Didn't dare to show off, but we'll see in a couple of weeks. I'll take details.
