I actually overbraked once on wet roads trying to avoid one, and shattered my wrist (end of my radius technically) in the process.

Agreed that they belong on the "avoid but squishable" list.

I never steer away from any animals except deer, and have (luckily) never hit one on any 2 wheeler.  Seems they always run unpredictably at the last second, so if I tried to steer away would be more likely to hit them!
Hit a large wolf at 75 mph in a Corolla once, that was memorable.
