Title: led turn signal fast blink rate vs incandecent brightness?
Post by: patrick112390 on December 14, 2009, 02:49:39 AM
hey guys, seems like im the only one here with a quannon but kinda a general question.which would be better?, would you rather have a bright incandescent bulb blinking at normal rate in the signals, or leds that arent as bright, but blink real fast to catch attention?

The reason the LED's are blinking faster is they do not put enough of a load on the flasher to activate correctly. They have either "load adapters" That install in line to each LED, or a flasher built to trigger correctly. I prefer the latter. You can get pulled over and ticketed for having non operational lighting, unless it is brought up to par. This is something that should have been made clear when the LED's were purchased. Most people on the road are day dreaming anyway so why tempt fate!

..I have red LEDs in my rear signals, and regular incandescent in the front...That combination causes a normal flash cycle..

..I tried LEDs in front and rear, and the flasher sounded like a mad cicada...

..scared the hell outta me!

FYI, Autozone sells a two resister kit for around $14...  Radio Shack has bulk resisters for about $2 each.  We used a 20 Watt 8 Ohm wire resister worked like a champ.

I should have thought of that myself! the resistor imitates the bulb... Great money saver!

after putting 500 or so miles on it with leds in the rear and incandesents in the front, ive noticed that people see the crazy fast blinking instead of an on/off "glow" it prolly says LOOKLOOKLOOK!!!!!!!!! i tried leds in front and rear but it sounded like a cicada and didnt work....might try the resistors for the front so i still have the fast blink rate but them be led?  ;)

...i have the same blinker setup...

..if you do the resistor, post back and let me know how it works out...

..i'd like to have LED in the front as well as the back...
