People 150 / People 150 Parts Question
« on: September 02, 2020, 06:29:37 AM »
Hi all,

What does it mean when, while searching for parts for the Kymco People 150, we are confronted with two choices in the drop down menus:

1) BA30AA    and..

2) BA30AD

Does anyone happen to know what the heck this is and why there are two choices? Thanks!

People 150 / Oil Dipstick Question
« on: August 30, 2020, 06:36:05 AM »
Does anyone happen to know how much the oil is low if it has nearly disappeared from the dipstick (i.e. that sort of scored-looking portion). In my car it would have been 1 quart. But I have no idea what it means on the Kymco People 150 dipstick.

Also, I bought a People 150 with just 1160 miles on it last month. I changed the oil almost immediately and have put about 250 miles on it. I just checked the oil and it's almost off of the dipstick! How could my scoot with hardly any miles on it be blowing through that much oil in that few miles?

Thank you!

UPDATE: Looks like most of the apparent oil loss was because I measured the oil while the bike was on the side stand rather than the center stand (Is the center stand the right orientation for accurately measuring the oil?)

People 150 / Newbie First Bike Oversights
« on: August 12, 2020, 09:50:10 PM »
Hello People 150 community!

I just bought my first bike and a few things occurred to me very quickly that somehow I had not considered before purchasing. Any advice or comments would be insightful and appreciated...

All of the following occurred to me after a few days of riding:

1) I have no idea how to change a flat tire (or repair it?). Also, what tools to carry? Or do I call a tow truck and send the bike to a shop?

2) My full face helmet and glasses fog up. The only solution I can think of is to carefully exhale downwards or switch to a 3/4ths open-faced helmet with prescription goggles. Taking my glasses on and off with a tight fitting helmet is difficult. But then, maybe a goggle strap would get pushed up and down with taking the helmet on and off and be futile. Or maybe a 3/4ths helmet would offer a tad more room for taking my existing regular glasses on and off?

3) I need to dress the part. Got stuck out late and I was way too cold.

4) I'm practicing and getting better but I still feel like I'm going 55 MPH when I'm going 30 MPH. I feel unstable when going more than about 40 MPH and am afraid to lean into curves at higher speeds. I honestly don't have a feel for how much I can lean without incurring a lowside crash. My fear of leaning seems to hamper my ability to follow the road and ride effectively at higher speeds (45-55 MPH). Dangerous. Guess I need way more practice.

5) The stock rear view mirrors are simply unacceptable. I can't see behind me. Riding without good rear visibility seems super dangerous and unfair to me and the others I share the road with.
What are my options short of selling the bike? Maybe handlebar end mirrors?

Thank you.

People 150 / On Board Tools For Flat Tire? What Do You Carry With You?
« on: August 12, 2020, 09:22:05 PM »
Hello People 150 Forum Citizenry.

I just bought my first bike, a People 150. I am embarrassed to admit that there are a few things about riding that I had not really thought much about before actually trying to do so. One is: What do I do if I get a flat? So I'm referring to youtube. I'm wondering what folks here do in anticipation of this. Do you carry a tool set to complete the job? Where do you store it? What tools do you carry?

Thanks so much!

People 150 / Mirrors That Actually Allow You To See Behind You?
« on: August 11, 2020, 02:45:38 AM »
LOL!!

I just bought my first bike EVER! 2009 Kymco People 150 with hardly any miles on it. My only riding experience was in the rider safety course, so I am a total newbie!

So one of my first observations was that the rear view mirrors are simply unacceptable and extremely dangerous. I will simply sell the bike and never ride again if this can't be quickly rectified. Unless I lean to the opposite side from the mirror in question I pretty much just see my arm and shoulde (why would anyone design a bike this way???).

Is my best bet to get those mirrors that screw into the ends of your handlebars? Does anyone have any experience with those things? Do they work extremely well?

Thanks.

The other new found issue is that my full face helmet and my glasses fog up!!!!! LOL!!! I'm thinking a 3/4 open faced helmet with prescription goggles is the solution?

If you own a Spade or a Like 150i, could you possibly tell me if your registration reads "MS" or "MC" under where it says "Vehicle Body Type?" Thank you so much. These bikes are 149.4cc and 149.8cc respectively. Which makes them technically illegal for freeway use in California (less than 150cc). But I have heard that the DMV "rounds up" and that these might each be designated with the freeway legal (?) "MC" designation on the title and registration. And I'm further assuming that an officer would defer to the registration for the determination, but I could be wrong. Perhaps there are other criteria.

Also, if anyone has been pulled over under suspicion of riding a bike less than 150cc on a CA freeway, I'd be interested to hear your story!

Thanks!!

General Discussion / Kymco Global Website = Epic Disaster
« on: August 11, 2018, 04:24:11 AM »
Good lord what is WRONG with the people at their corporate headquarters? I wanted to see what models of scooters they were offering in other countries' markets and they only show 2 (both maxi scoots). Can't even find any motorcycle listings. Does their CEO or anyone else in their company even look at the website to see if it is functional and working? LOL. Not to mention the Kymco USA site is completely third rate looking-completely amateurish. The Global site used to be pretty nice. Anyone else notice this?

General Discussion / What Are Competitive Insurance Rates These Days?
« on: October 20, 2016, 11:23:08 PM »
Dear Kymco Forum Members,

I have no riding experience other than in the MSF Course that I completed and passed a couple of months ago here in California. I have a perfect auto driving record for the last 5 years and am over 25 yrs. old. I was interested in a used 2007 Kymco People 150 so I plugged my data into the Progressive Insurance company's estimator a couple of days ago. Liability coverage only. Based upon the blogs I have read, I was expecting an estimate in the $100 - $200 range. It came back $678. This seems wrong somehow. I am hoping to find out what folks are finding in the insurance market these days so I can make an informed decision. At that rate I may not even choose to purchase a bike. $678 seems more like what I would have expected for a Ninja 600 or something. THANKS so much for any sage advice!!

Disclaimer: I did opt for higher than minimum $$ liability coverage. I went with $250,000 person/$500,000 accident/$100,000 property damage. Also just got an online quote from Geico for minimum liability for $337. I may be comparing apples and oranges here. $337 still seems high. UPDATE: recalculated estimate from Progressive with minimum coverage and got $475/yr.

Movie 150 / Exact Engine Displacement For 2014 Movie?
« on: February 21, 2016, 05:05:30 AM »
Thanks for anyone who can help with this. I am interested in a 2014 Movie but I need to be legal for the freeway occasionally here in California, where the vehicle code states that the engine displacement must be "more than" 149cc. The Kymco website says it is 149cc but I could really use that extra digit of accuracy! :-) For example, the Kymco USA website stated that the 2014 Super 8 150 was 149cc when it is, in reality, apparently either 149.4cc or 149.7cc. This is crucial for me here in CA. Thanks again!!!

I am a newbie who just got my learner's permit and am looking for a first bike. I saw the 2015 Super 8 150R & 150X on the U.S. Kymco site and began to research them. It wasn't until a few weeks back that I discovered that all of the stuff I had been reading was actually for the 2014 and older "Super 8 150" which is a completely different bike (for the purposes of internet searching, it would have been very nice if Kymco would have selected a new and different name..). I think I would be very satisfied with one of these used 2009-2014 Super 8 150's since the reviews are very favorable. But I'm not finding any available in my area (San Francisco Bay Area). So I'm looking at the new "Super 8 150" versions with the 'R' or 'X' appended to the name. The problem I am running into is that there is hardly any information on the internet about this new model. It seems like other manufacturers' new models often have incredibly detailed write-ups (engine details, etc.). For example, why did Kymco change the engine from the 2014 model to a different one that produces exactly the same horsepower but get 12 MPG less? I realize that the new Super 8 looks very similar to the Agility 125 and apparently shares some common parts. But I can't find many specifics. I can't even find ONE review by an actual owner, nor even ONE review by a media person that rode it. Just seems really strange to me. I would like to know if the bike will be a good performer and highly reliable before buying. If I could be assured that it would perform like the Agility 125 I would probably go for it in a heart beat. The X has already had a recall, for example (see links below).

Just curious if this has been a frustration for any forum members here? And, has anyone found any more thorough information? Thanks so much! BTW the links below are pretty much all I have found!
