Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Nice Little Fall Ride.
« on: November 10, 2021, 03:23:07 AM »
For the first time in around 3 years my wife wanted to go for a ride.  It was a nice fall day with temperatures in the low 70s.

General Discussion / Halloween ride.
« on: November 01, 2021, 03:03:02 PM »
I have four bikes and I enjoy riding all of them but there is one that more than any of the others calls my name from the garage and begs to go for a ride. Yesterday that happened around 5 so I went for a ride.

I thought the reflections of the trees in the lake was cool so I stopped for a pic.

I was just planning a short loop but sunset wasn't that far off so I headed over to one of the places nearby that offers a good view of the sunset. Shortly before getting there, on a four lane road running by the airport, there were a bunch of cars on the sides of the road and a bunch of people hanging out in the road. I have no idea why they were there. It reminded me of a Zombie Apocalypse. I wish I had thought to take a pic. but right past the Zombies was my turnoff.

There were a few clouds in the sky so I was hoping for an interesting sunset.

Looking away from the sun. Both sides of the road are farmland and its harvest time so there has been a lot of farm equipment in the fields.

A couple of sunset pics.

.

Then it was time to head for home and get ready for the Trick or treaters.

General Discussion / Barber Vintage Motorcycle festival 2021
« on: October 12, 2021, 05:15:20 PM »
Yes its a Vintage Motorcycle Festival but I saw a lot more scooters there than I did Harleys.  Its a super cool event and a scooter is the best way to attend.  On site parking is free for bikes, not for cars.  That's the way things should be.

This year I rode to the event on Friday and Saturday on my Majesty.  Its about 115 miles one way mostly on the Interstate.  My majesty cruises comfortably at 75 MPH and will easily do 85+ if needed.  Once at the event I had plenty of storage for all my stuff.

I'll start out with some scooter pics.

General Discussion / Touring on my Like 150i
« on: September 18, 2021, 09:06:25 PM »
I have done a lot of day rides on my like.  Some where as long as around 300 miles but I had not actually gone touring.  I define touring as riding somewhere and spending at least one night away from home.  I have hauled my bike places and done day rides from there but that's not really touring.  I finally changed that earlier this week with a 3 day 600 mile trip through three states on my Like.  I started my trip in Blue Ridge Georgia, rode through South Carolina and then to Saluda, North Carolina.  I was accompanied by a friend on his Vespa 250GTV.  We spent two nights in Saluda doing some local riding and then rode back.

General Discussion / Bye Bye Pirelli Angels.
« on: September 10, 2021, 07:18:57 PM »
I had Pirelli Angels on My Like 150i but they are both gone now.  Both tires handled very well but I thought they rode a bit rough.  The rear was worn out in 4600 miles and I replaced it with a City Grip II.  The front was toast after about 6500 miles and I replaced it yesterday with a Michelin Power Pure.  I would have liked to put a City Grip on but they don't sell the correct size here in the USA.  The combination feels good but I'll have to wait to see how well the Michelins hold up.  They are quite a bit more expensive than the Pirellis were.

Keep in mind I'm a very aggressive rider.  I even rode my scooter on a couple of racetracks.  Most riders will get better mileage out of their tires.

On a positive note, I have pretty consistently been getting around 90 MPG the last several months.

A couple of years ago I thought it would be fun to get together with some of the scooter enthusiasts that I had come to "know" online and  ride the great roads in the North Carolina mountains.  I also noticed that the weather in Maggie Valley was always a lot cooler than almost anyplace else with highs from the low 70s to low 80s in July and August.  So I set up an event and I think we had 11 people show up.  It was so much fun that I did it again the next year.  Despite COVID we had around 30 show up this time.  This year was the third year for this event and it turned out to be a fantastic time with a total of 29 people participating.

General Discussion / Like 200i in Dupixent Commercial
« on: June 12, 2021, 12:14:09 AM »
I saw a new commercial a couple of times today that shows a woman getting on a Blue and White Scooter and riding away.  I'm pretty sure its a Like 200i.  The commercial is for Dupixent.

General Discussion / Kymco Scooters on the racetrack?
« on: June 07, 2021, 04:40:32 PM »
On Saturday I went down to the Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama to attend the Small Bore event being held there.  I wasn't expecting to ride my Like 150i on the racetrack but ended up riding on THREE different tracks.

First up was a small racetrack they had set up for small bore bikes.  All of the bikes I saw out there were small motorcycles like Honda Groms and the riders were all wearing full leathers.

It looked like fun so I asked about it.  25 bucks for a 20 minute session.  Leather not required just full riding gear.  I had mesh gear, a helmet jacket and boots so I was good to go.

What a blast.  I just wish my Like had better cornering clearance.  As it was I think I left some black plastic streaks on the track from touching down my belly pan in the curves.

General Discussion / Covid vaccine and motorcycles.
« on: April 02, 2021, 01:22:48 PM »
What does the Covid vaccine have to do with motorcycles?  Well......here's my story and I'm sticking to it.

a couple of weeks ago Alabama opened up my age group to be eligible for the vaccine so I signed up for the waiting list at the Huntsville Hospital.  My 85 YO mom got her shots there and the process was very well organized.  When I signed up there were around 65,000 people ahead of me on the list and they were doing 2500 people per week.  My wife decided to sign us up at the Decatur Hospital which is around 25 miles away.

So yesterday I get a call from the Decatur hospital.  The lady on the phone asked if we still needed shot and I said yes.  They had opening for next week.  So we set a time and she started getting information from me.  Typical stuff you would expect like:
-Reactions to previous vaccines
-address
-date of birth
-emergency contact
- DO YOU RIDE A MOTORCYCLE??

WHAAAAAAAT???

I didn't see that one coming but I answered YES.

then she asked "do you know Tim xxxxxx"

I said yes I do.

Then she said she was Tim's wife and she recognized my name.  I had met Tim as well as his wife about 8 years ago on a ride when I first moved to Huntsville.  We rode together a number of times for the next couple of years and then Tim stopped riding and I haven't seen him since.

This was another case of "it's a small world".  This is especially true if you are part of the riding community.  I have had a number of experiences like this but it still blows my mind every time it happens.

Anyway, this just made my day.  I'll be fully vaccinated by the end of the month and I got to talk to someone I hadn't seen in years.

I know that many people get on forums and just interact with each other online.  I was just wondering how many people have have actually met other forum members in person?

Me? I have met at least four of the members here in person.

Crossbolt
Dan V
RDhood
Cleanerman

I met Crossbolt through this forum.  The other three I met through other forums but they happen to be members here as well.

It is kind of cool when I see someone post something and I actually know that person.  They are not just some anonymous name on the internet.

General Discussion / Chasing the sun between storms.
« on: March 27, 2021, 07:29:23 PM »
Thursday was a nasty day weather-wise here in Alabama.  Rain, thunder, lightining, tornadoes....

I was lucky as there were no tornadoes around me.  Saturday was also forecast to have more nasty weather.  In between was Friday, a beautiful Spring day with plenty of sun and a high of around 75 degrees.  Of course I got out on my scooter to run some errands around town.  There were plenty of signs of spring with things blooming everywhere.  I didn't get any pics but here's a couple from a few days earlier.

.

Friday evening as the sun was getting low I decided to go out again on my mighty steed and chase the sun.

I was a man on a mission.  I had 13 horsepower on tap and wasn't afraid to use it as I raced the setting sun!  I have my wingman backing me up.

I was preparing to fire a sidewinder at this slow moving vehicle blocking my way but it turned off.

Gotta catch that sun!
