Oil & Smoke
« on: August 01, 2014, 11:24:52 AM »
Just about every video I see of someones 2 stroke scoot (ones that are running great) they have smoke pouring out of their exhaust, I know some people would prefer not to but I like the idea of it smoking up a lot. My scoot is pretty good, only smokes a tiny bit on start up/low revs. What causes this, type of oil used? (fully synthetic etc) carburetor settings? higher oil to fuel ratio?

Smoking two stroke comes from premixing. With oil injection it's getting very little 2t oil at idle burns cleaner. Synthetic 2t oil will usually smoke less. You won't get that super smoke without going all out with tuning. Premix will always be burning whatever ratio you mix to (i.e. 32:1) while injection will be as low as 100:1 at idle.

Cheers for the insight, I run 35:1 premix with semi-synthetic I thought that was a high-ish oil mixture compared to some others and always wondered why it doesn't smoke much.
