A popular Youtuber was killed in a collision while he and his spouse were riding their scooter in the Chattahoochee National Forest.
Apparently a van over ran them as they slowed to turn from the highway onto a side road.
Sean O'Connor was killed upon impact with the roadside berm.
His spouse, Carolina was apparently dragged, along with the scooter, for nearly 300ft before stopping.
This accident occurred shortly after the eclipse, which they had traveled to North Carolina to view.
Carolina was in intensive care for severe damage to legs requiring rods installed and multiple skin grafts. She also has 7 broken ribs and  a pierced lung.  She is now recovering somewhat and is able to eat.
Their channel, known by Road Warrior is very popular. They seemed to be a nice young couple...
RIP Sean
Speedy recovery for Carolina

Here's a clip from the Clay County Progress, a newspaper in Hayesville, NC.
They are entitled to all rights to the clip beyond Fair Use.

There is a GoFundMe account set up for Carolina's medical bills.
It may be located in the comments on the last video they posted, of the eclipse, within the comments.

90 miles on the helix today (Others) looking for opportunity out the back road.
Hot and dry !

I did know I was headed into an area that had burned a week ago...
Even then, it was a real surprise when the gray asphalt turned pink before me !  Really weird !
The borate bombers have a lot of colorant in the loads they drop.  It stays a while before blending in...

General Discussion / Happy Independence Day !
« on: July 03, 2017, 02:55:54 PM »
I would like to wish all those in USA a Happy Independence Day !

Perhaps a little time spent upon reflection of the cause and effect, not to mention change since that time.

Pics of Chris Christie sunbathing on a closed beach, cordoned off to prevent public access raises an eyebrow, to say the least.

For Sale / Want to buy small plot of land for Cash
« on: June 24, 2017, 12:52:58 AM »
I want to build a Tiny House, for small scooters !

We would like to buy a small parcel or plot of land in the USA, SWest or PacificNWest where that is possible.

It would be best if there are utilities to the property, to a barn (for scooters), pump house, or work shop.

House rent and taxes here are eating me alive !  Time to move on down the trail !

It would be good to be within 30 mins to an hour from real city services.

Any ideas ?  Please send me a PM here on the forum.
Tnx

General Discussion / Seatrain storage containers
« on: June 20, 2017, 10:27:57 PM »
Storage of scooter related items may become significant.

I wanted to know the weight of a 20ft Seatrain storage container and found great information about them at this website...

http://www.tractorbynet.com/forums/index.php

There's a lot of real smart fellows over there who talk about guy stuff.
Great information reading their threads !

The tare weight of a container is usually found painted on the end of the container, and there is a range...

I am a price shopper.  Can't resist a deal.
Or a challenge !

Pic 1 shows the bms federal 50 as I got it.  I do have the plastic panels.
Pic 2 shows part of why I got it...
Near as I can tell it is a Zhongneng !  :-)
Which translates to GY6 engine parts.
It is a 2012 model that was won by a lucky fellow in a PR contest.
He managed to ride it 1 whole mile before it failed to re-start.
It has been hacked at by any number of mechanics over the last 5 years and been a burden, in storage.

No real clues why it will not start and run.
Should be fun to play with for a while !

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / Helix Golfing ? Others

I really feel as though I should be in 'Others'...

I went on a short jaunt to get two more 'Others' a few days a go and thought I should take a few roadside pics along the way.

Here's the Helix at a viewpoint alongside the lake,  and one of a disc golf stile positioned beyond the operator seat.

Eye Candy | Videos and Pics / My Luck

As you know, luck sorta runs different for some people...

How much storage/cargo space do you have on your scooter ?
Mine is not so much...

I discovered this gem when reviewing news a few minutes ago...

http://www.fox10phoenix.com/news/arizona-news/259480381-story

Years back, riding my mc through 'Our Town', a truck/trailer hauling beer bounced through an intersection too quickly for the water drainage swales perpendicular to his direction of travel which were too serious for his speed...
Bam! Bam ! It kinda bounced through the intersection, an unlatched roll-up door, did, and a rather large amount of cases of six packs dumped out in the busy roadway.
The driver stopped quickly to recover, and since this happened immediately before me, I thought I should do my Citizen's duty and assist.
As I hurried to see how many I could hang off my mc he looked over at me... I said, "We can't leave this in the street!"

I dunno if it was worth it.  After a few minutes I left with my booty, soaked and reeking from the spewing cans, now on a mission to find a nearby friend with a fridge !   ...and a hose !!!

Years prior, a friend seemed to have a significant stock of Seagram's 7...
He told a tale of an early AM runaway truck and a bucket loader had been brought in to cart the mess a short distance to some property where it was quickly buried in a shallow pit.
His friend happened to observe the cache from his nearby home and they would occasionally dig into the small mound to salvage what they could.

What entertainment do you see in your scooter travels ?

The warning sign said, 'Road Subject to Flooding' so I Had To take it...  Since we've been under serious drought conditions for 5 years.

Now that I have successfully made it home, it's disappointing to see the T-post growing out of my wind screen and a few other probs with the pic.

Might need to study up a bit on taking better quality pictures...
I will try to do better on B52.

I did have an errand to run, into the outback, and remembered to take along the camera.

#1 is looking down on our 'Big Valley'.
#2 is overlooking a smaller, secluded valley full of mini-ranchos for people devoted to their horses.
#3 is just a bystander...
(I rode past him, turned around, and pulled right up to him when I took the pic. He wasn't impressed. Just now it dawned on me, with a quick movement, he probably could have got me through that fence! )

Technical | How To / Squeek
« on: May 12, 2017, 01:44:37 PM »
A very slight chamfer, applied with a file, to the leading edge of brake shoes and disk brake pads may ease a little of the squeaking.
Some disk brake pad sets come with a liquid rubber type goo for application to the backside of the pads to dampen noise...

Machinery really should not squeak, though.  It's probably a sign that inspection is warranted and possible application of lubricant.

I recall those Bridgestone bikes...  they were quick !

Which I would have agreed with, as the one on screen with the girls...
Until I saw this Yamaha, posted below.  It's a 63 YG-1 80cc.
The chrome air cleaner disk to the rear of the cylinder head area matches the bike onstage.
There's a 3k x 2k pic of it online...  too big for BBS'es!.
That was about the time Asian bikes impact was noticed by domestic and British manufacturers.
