Broken Exhaust Studs Replace with bolts ?

Well just broke off an exhaust stud on this new Super 8. Not used to cheap metal after working years on my 97 Saturn SL1.

Had enough thread showing to remove the broken stud with vice grips. I went to local HW and they didn't have metric studs so I got a SS 6mm-1.0 grade 8 bolt, lock washer and washer, some high temp aniti-seize  and it seemed to do the trick.

Should I just do the other stud the same way since you don't need to take the bolts off to remove the exhaust and it will have better quality metal ?

Or should I now look to replacing the stud with a proper 6mm x 29 mm Stud.

Nooooooo you don't want to use bolts, makes it EASY easier to strip the threads in the cylinder. The exhaust stud on these bikes are not cheap metal, but the exhaust does take a lot of abuse so they break every now and then. Check your hanger bolts, it there lose you will beaks the stud again

Thanks Bettin. I just bought a stud kit off Ebay. I see they are a dime a dozen.

Those 2 bolts at the side of the exhaust do a great job though of holding the exhaust firm. Probably could have gone with 1 stud for many miles.

Will have a spare in my tool pouch.

Yeah, scooter exhausts are prone to issues, unlike motorcycles they swing around over every pothole. And stock muffler is HEAVY weight to be tossed around like that. Studs are the way to go.
