You have to squeeze the clutch assembly so the belt will go deeper into the clutch plate. If you don't do so, you will not be able to close the front pulley plates. If the front pulley plate is open, you can't fasten the nut all the way in. When you start the bike, front pulley plate will disassemble.

What lesson did you learn? Having never done it before, I'd like to avoid the same mistake when it comes time to change my belt.

Not sure if I'm any better than other people. But I'm sure I save quite a bit by doing all the work myself.

..true!!

..I live down in the 50cc boards, where we tweak and mod out scoots for more horsepower and torque...

..we swap these parts out sometimes, two or three times a day if we're tuning an upgrade...

..you now know more about your scoot than 50% of your compadres..!

I learned my lesson when I screw up I replacing the belt. Changing the transmission was a lot smoother. It took about 1 hour from start to finish. The only hard part is to squeeze the clutch assembly so the belt will go deeper into the clutch plate. You'll not able to install the front pulley if the belt is not seated deep into the clutch plate.

People 250 / CVT transmission overhaul

My bike was idling a little rough and there's always noise coming from the transmission crank case. It doesn't affect the riding. Just very annoying when bike is idling. First I ordered a new transmission belt. After taking out the old belt, I realized that the old one and new one have different part number. Since I'm not the original owner, I'm not sure if it was original or replace incorrectly by previous owner. After the new belt, the bike idle much smoother. But during installation, I accidentally damage the pulley weight and probably something else. So I decide to replace all the CVT transmission including the pulley assembly and clutch assembly. Just got my parts last night and installed them. What a difference. Bike is in like new condition now. I always thought it was a clog up carburetor causing the idle issue. I'm just glad that everything is good now. My bike is a 2007 with 12,000 miles.

Just hard to start and occasionally idle very low when I stop.

It could be the auto choke that is not working. It happened on mine 07 People S 250. Auto choke is on the carb. Check if the power is connected. If so, you may need a new auto choke. Also check all the vacuum hoses and make sure there are no leak. Good Luck.

Kymco OEM Factory Gear Oil 180ML tube. This will work for any Kymco scooter/motorcycle that require 180 ML gear oil exchange. Make the gear oil change such an easy job. Just cut the nose and squeeze the oil. Don't need to worry about measure the correct amount of gear oil or spill it every where while trying to pour it in a pea size hole.

Thanks. I did inflat my tires. It makes a lot of difference. I am also going to change my front brake pad after comparing to yours.

Michael, it was good to meet up with you Sunday, thanks for taking the time and showing me your shield, large with good coverage and you had a wealth of knowledge that was beneficial to me.

Don't forget to air your front tire, the steering will be much lighter, less effort.

Here is the thread on a couple of items we discussed.

Various Top case  samples, I did go with the Shad as I like the locking mechanism better. This link does not start at the top, you have to scroll up.

I bought and installed the following wind shield. It completely block wind and I really like it. It's designed for European model that don't have the turn signal but it'll work for the US model as well. The turn signal will touch the wind shield. I see you are in Allen. I'm in Plano. Let me know if you want to check out the installed wind shield.

Teemon,

You can try Wunderlich wind deflector. It looks like it'll fit on any wind shield. If you don't mind to have a little scratch on wind shield, I can sell you my old wind shield for $35.

I installed the wind shield I order by euronetbike.net today. It's a lot taller than the one I have. I'm 6'1" and it's as tall as my head. I am looking through the wind shield when I ride now. All the wind noise are gone now. My complain is the engine noise now but it's much better than the wind noise.
I didn't have to make any modification to install the new wind shield. The US people s 250 version has turn signal on the side. The wind shield does touch the turn signal but it's not a big deal to me.

I didn't order mine on columbia scooter. It came with the bike when I bought it from the original owner. It looks really similar to the one columbia scooter sell. Mine doesn't require any modification.

I have this windshield when I bought my people s 250. It's tall enough to block wind on you chest but not on the helmet. You do feel tired after 30 minutes of riding with the helmet noise. I hope the new windshield is tall enough to get rid of the helmet wind noise. I'm 6'1".
