John your observation about the weather there is spot on. Especially when you're planning a long weekend, you have to be ready for anything. Especially when camping!

Technical | How To / Re: The truth about fuel dilution
« on: May 11, 2021, 07:05:37 PM »
I'm curious how over fueling occured? When the computer detected the rich mixture it should have  cut back on fuel or thrown a code. The computer should keep the optimum fuel mixture on a injected motor.  I take it was a failed injector?

The dealer has not gone into details,  but there were no warning lights or check engine warnings the entire time.  I found a TSB from 2014-15 Mitsubishi Mirages dealing with the same problem saying they would re-flash the computer and if that didn't  work....replace the engine. So all I really know is that's a fueling issue, and the end result is a destoyed engine.

Had the cataract surgery 3 years ago. Both eyes came out PERFECT!
After a lifetime of glasses/contacts and very nearsightedness, I now only need glasses for reading. Much like anyone else my age (66).  It's an easy 30 minute out-patient procedure for each eye. Painless.
Like my doc said, there's  no harm in putting off the procedure but you'll  know when it's  time!

And.... reading glasses are only $1.00 at the local Dollar Tree!

Fuel dilution is a real thing. My 2018 Mitsubishi is awaiting a new engine (warranty replacement) because of this.  The engine began making a ticking noise and dealer diagnosis was "cylinder scoring due to overfueling of the engine."  The fueling system poured too much gas into the cylinders, which diluted the oil, and caused the scoring of the cylinders. No warning lights and the engine still ran fine.

Having said this, I doubt this would ever be a problem on our small engined scooters. They are designed for stop and go - short distance travel and it looks like Kymco is just playing CYA on this one. Unless they know something we don't.

Hi, I'm a long time member who owns a 2004 Super 9 liquid cooled, and a 2010 Yager 200.  I had a stroke about 5 years ago, and the scoots have been parked ever since. Now I'm retired (3+ years) and decided to try and resuscitate the Yager.  I tried to charge the battery but could not get any results, to I took it to an auto parts store who tested it, and they said "you're good to go!"  Holy cow, I put the battery in the scoot, tried to start it about 8 times, let it rest 15 minutes and then it started right up!!!!  After 5 years. Now, I've put on about 400 miles the last 3 weeks and am loving the performance  and quality feel of this unique scooter! Only 5900 miles on it, but I'm gonna be adding a lot more as I'm without a car right now. My spring/summer just got a whole lot better.
I'm glad to be back riding my Kymco!

That's a decent price.  It should have many more miles in it if not abused.  The Yager is supremely capable with great mileage!  I've never regretted buying it.  Holds it's own up to 55-60mph (but can go faster!)

That old B&W 250 is one of nicest looking and best put-together scooters there is.  Still waiting for the snow to clear here in Chicago land.

Kymco News / Re: What was your first new one ??
« on: March 02, 2017, 06:53:26 PM »
My first was a 1981 Honda Nighthawk 450 SC.  I purchased new in 1983.  The dealer had 10 new ones in crates in the back.  There was a glut of unsold new bikes from '81 and '82.  The price was $1,290.00, I added on a Plexifairing and the factory backrest/luggage rack for an out-the-door price of about $1,600.00.  I couldn't resist.  I didn't even have a motorcycle endorsement on my license yet.

The little 450 came with mag wheels, electronic ignition, air adjustable front suspension, helmet lock, and 6 speeds.  And the parallel twin always ran flawlessly.  Threw on all my camping gear (even a grill) and  took it on touring trips from Chicago to Arkansas, Wisconsin, and Missouri.  Got blown around a little on the interstates but had a blast anyway (didn't know any better!)  And that little bargain had Honda quality through and through.

What a great way to get into 2 - wheeled travel!
