Rear suspension squeaking
« on: August 18, 2013, 08:12:23 AM »
I recently bought a 2006 People 250 with 4500ish km on it.

It seems to have a squeak that sounds like it's coming from the rear suspension (I hear it when I sit down or push down on the rear of the bike).
My searches suggest this could either be a bolt that needs tightening, or something needs lubricating (sounds more likely to me).

How do I lubricate the rear suspension though? And what grease should I use?

Are there any specific bolts that I should check?

After further examination I believe it's coming from the swingarm pivot point, but I'm not very sure.

Something else to check out is the center stand.  There's a rubber "bumper" or roller that's supposed to allow easy movement of the swingarm in relation to the center stand mount point.  You may need to lightly grease inside where the bumper mounts to the center stand, or even replace the bumper if it's out of round.

Yes, that seems to be it. The squeak disappears when the center stand is lowered slightly.

I'm not sure what this bumper is, but I guess I'll try removing the center stand and probably what you're talking about.

Before taking it off, I did see a rubber roller. Greasing it didn't help though.

A light application of wd-40 around the bolts of the centerstand and the problem was fixed. If the wd-40 doesn't last I'll try something else, but it's what I had on hand.

It was as easy a fix as I could have hoped for, didn't even need to disassemble anything.
