GACK! California DMV sure gets their money.
« on: June 23, 2020, 10:35:15 PM »
OMG California has a long list of fees they have us pay to register a out of State Scooter.
Sales Tax and all it was $510.00 OMG

Then Just when I thought the DMV couldn't be more difficult add Covid-19 too. No new appointments and Social Isolation during registering "out of state" vehicles that require VIN checks.

Then they couldn't find the "Federal Sticker" so I now have to be reviewed by the California Highway Patrol VIN Inspector.

Too funny. Only 17 more days to the CHP inspection appointment.  Argh!

What the hell is a "Federal Sticker?"

Sounds like the Kansas Gestapo DMV. Normal here to have a VIN inspection on all out of state vehicle's.  Emissions sticker states that the vehicle conforms to US emissions standards. I think it's stupid because if it has already been sold it had to meet emissions to be registered.  We have personal property tax along with sales tax on used vehicles along with all the tag fees. Personal property tax you have to pay every year. Sales tax is 9.44%

At one time we had the dubious honor of the highest vehicle registration fees in the nation. They passed a reform act that lowered the tax on everything but boats.

Reading this thread, for once I can feel smug about how few bureaucratic hoops we have to jump through with our dear old DVLA!

Yeah, I don't find the DVLA too bad. Dealing with a different authority, state by state, sounds like a right nightmare.

Even importing stuff isn't that difficult here, if that's your bag.

I would love to be able to import a scooter but unless it meets US standards forget about it. (And has all the compliance stickers).

Federal Sticker...LIKE200I,  yes?
If it is not the one on the side wall of the underseat bucket....perhaps they are looking for the tag found on the right rear frame...only visible by laying on your back and looking up under the right rear panel?
It has the scoot's birthday, and other info.

Okay I will look there but I am already on the hook to visit the "po-po"
Three DMV people searched for it with mirrors and flashlights but that doesn't mean they looked where you suggest.

The VIN, of course,  is behind that pry-out black platic tab in front of your feet.

Have often read of the expense and paper-work involved in buying out of state in Granola Land*.

Emissions sticker, under seat, storage bucket. Most Kymco were 50 state epa/carb compliant.
Bike has to have 7500 miles on it to bring in. Lie about the value because that's what your Tax and license fee's will be based on. Do this on an application for registration.

Not on the 700i
It has it's own little window on the right hand side under the leg guard.
Engine serial is on the left near the oil sight glass.
