Grandvista 250 / Re: LED headlight bulb switchout for 2007 GV 25
« on: August 03, 2020, 01:24:47 AM »
Hi Paul -

I brought up the link to the LED bulb you referenced in an earlier reply, and when I put in my year, make and model info, Amazon stated that the bulb would not fit my 2007 GV 250.  Did the bulb fit your GV without any problems?

Thanks.

Yes absolutely.  Amazon's system is designed to ensure that a particular vehicle or scooter is listed for a part.  This part is universal in nature so no one is going to go back and test every possible vehicle that it might fit.  I posted a review on amazon for this bulb an listed my Grandvista.

The nice this about this design and why it costs a little more than other LED's is that the design is compact for motorcycles and scooters and has the special removable base (the three prongs on the flat plate) making it easy to install even if there isn't much room once the headlight assembly is put back together.

If you download this link to my google drive you will see the rest of the pictures:

Grandvista 250 / Re: How to Remove Dash Console - GV 250
« on: July 22, 2020, 03:26:30 AM »
So, does anyone have any step by step instructions on getting that darn dash console off the scooter.  I can't seem to find anything in the shop manual.
Thanks,
TonyinCNY

This is a know and very annoying problem with Kymco on the Grand Vista.  I lived with the problem for at least two years and then I had to take action.

Yes, I did this in sept 2016.  It took me about 5 hours total but that included taking lots of pictures.  It is way harder that it looks to take that speedometer off and I have to thank Rudolf for the info about the inverter and some photos.  Building off his work I took more pictures and after doing the repair and 12K + miles later the problem has never returned.  This and the exhaust that crack at about 12K miles are serious Kymco defects in the Grand Vista aka Grand Dink aka Bet&Win 250.

I don't know but I think that would probably damage it what I would recommend is use the LED which has something like four times the output of that halogen bulb and if you really need something flashing you could just set up a halogen light and mounted on the fender or something and then hook up the Flasher to that I think the LED is just one of the best upgrades you can possibly do to the Grand Vista

Grandvista 250 / Re: Adjustment screws at top of headlight.
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:30:27 AM »
Does anyone know this pair of adjustment screws does?  They are located at the top of the GV250 headlight.  They turn a series of gears behind the headlight housing.  I thought they were the two screws used to remove the front panel.  I hadn't removed the windshield yet, and didn't see the 10mm heads for the actual bolts I needed to remove.  I spen them counter clockwise before I realized the were the wrong screws.  I've tried turning the gears, and looking at the front to see what they go to.  I for the life of me can not tell what the function of this contraption is.   Any ideas Kymco think tank?

put a socket on the metal ones if you try to use the proper method often the plastic teeth will strip.  Problem is you have to do trial and error to repoint the light.  consider upgrading to led bulb that works perfect: cheap and worked perfect on my 2005 GV250

Grandvista 250 / Re: 2009 Grand Vista 250 Rear Brake Rotor???
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:28:08 AM »
Hi I recently got a gv 250 and the rear rotor is seriously scored. I can't seem to find a replacement or the specs for it. Does anyone know what it takes?? Thanks!

don't waste money replacing it.  you can remove it and lay it flat and take an angle grinder and put a cutting disk on it and "wipe" along the side of the cutting wheel clean the disc up and then sand with a block of wood and 60 grit sand paper.  I have used angle grinders for years on motorcycles to grind off the lip that forms at the outer edge of the rotor and never had a problem.

Grandvista 250 / Re: What would be a fair offer?
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:25:18 AM »
$500 is very generous. I'd wait a month then offer $300. He isn't going to find a nut like me, or you, to buy it. I recently bought my third GV 250, a running bike with bald tires, 7700 miles, cosmetic issues, for $800.

Here in CA the back registration fees/penalties are horrendous if it's not kept current. People let them sit in the garage and neglect to pay the plate fee or non-op them to avoid penalties.

I'm in san diego and I learned about this.  Even for non-op if you sell the vehicle next owner must pay the regular amount that would have been paid if the owner did not do non-op or to avoid that you cannot register until the start of the next reg period then just regular amount.

I agree anything over $300 for that older scooter in non running shape is outrageous.  Also, my believe is that older carbs that sat for years are best replaced as my 2005 carb was cleaned about 15x over the years and changed pilot jet to a larger one and always had hesitation off the line.  $275 for a new carb!

Grandvista 250 / Re: Parts?
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:20:41 AM »
The dealers for Kymco parts on the General Discussion page no longer list the Grandvista 250!

Does anyone know a source of OEM parts for our GV 250's?

Yes as of the fall of 2019:

I spoke with Allan
JP MotorSports and Marine, Inc.
619-564-4935
www.JPMotorSports.com

Yesterday (Saturday) I called them and pressed #1 for sales and got no on.  Will try later in the week hopefully still in business because I need some OEM parts for the Grand Vista for the rear belt drive.  I will update with my results.

Hi -

I just bought a sweet, used 2007 GV 250, and just joined the Kymco forum.  I'm wondering if anyone with a similar year and model has switched out the halogen headlamps for LED?  If so, what did you need to buy, and how easy or difficult was it to do.

Thanks so much.

Jeff

Here is an updated video of upgrading the bulb in the Grandvista:

I did with this one from Amazon and it fits perfect and the pattern in both hi / low is perfect - as long as the plastics are installed correctly you will be blown away with the results.

Grandvista 250 / Re: Need help locating belt for 2009 GV 250
« on: June 08, 2020, 06:11:36 AM »
Hello Kymco community.  Can one of you who know please post a link for the correct replacement belt for a 2009 Grand Vista? I'm getting conflicting information.  Please reply if you can provide a link for the correct replacement belt.  Thank you in advance!

Easy solutions:
1. don't change it just because it is old.  My 2005 GV has 18K miles on the 2nd oem belt and it is working fine.
2. Solve conflicting info by spending 2x for the oem belt which is about $60?

Watch my video on the belt change to decide if you are really up for it:

« on: June 08, 2020, 06:08:51 AM »
The Gates being a little narrower won't affect top speed or anything else.  It is safe to assume the belt is original as no one would change it otherwise.  My second OEM belt now has 18K miles on it and there are no problems and because my GV now has 28K miles I'm getting ready to sell it because I bought a 2012 NC700X  motorcycle September 2019.

Regarding the 19mm nut removal just review my YouTube video:

Stu says the PL30904 is a perfect fit. He has way more experience than I with the GV250.
That being said, here's what I've found: I bought the PL30904 about a year ago, just now getting serious about changing it.
When removing the CVT cover I see a Bando belt with the Kymco name and number (23100-KHE7-9000.)
With my sad, old eyes, I could see that the Gates was narrower. Will that cause a reduction in top speed?
By the book, the Gates is 893x23x28. Bando is 893x24x30.
Very slight difference, I know, but, I'm a Virgo. We're like that.
I did not install the Gates. First, because I want what appears to be factory original, (the Bando,) and, because I couldn't get the 19mm nut loose.

I haven't been on the Forum for a while, but, I hope you post an update, to let us know how the Gates works out for you.

I'll also mention that I've put 3000 miles on my GV since I've had it, and I see no sign of belt wear, and very little belt dust inside the cover. I still want to change it, only because the scoot is 12 years old, and I don't know how old the belt is.

No, not yet, but I’m fearless now, thanks to you. I need to find a belt... I won’t ever have a more opportune time to do it. Thanks again.

Well thank you for those kind words

Just watched your video on replacing the belt. It was very helpful and thorough. Thanks!

👍

I'm glad it helped and how did it come out have you changed it yet?

Thanks!  Has anyone take off the passenger backrest?  I wanted to paint the vinyl black to prevent further sun damage?

I discovered the secret; you pry it off after I applied some grease to the mounts -- see pictures.

I gotta ask: whatsa M2O Marine? (sticker on scoot rh side forward of footboard) (I know YOU know where it is! Just providing directions for those that missed it and/or were too chicken to ask!)

Sorry, Karl I missed your question.  M2O Marine is a local boat shop and I know one of the owners and he gave me that sticker.  I have since removed it because it was peeling and I put a new sticker in its place.

Grandvista 250 / Re: Clutch went out on as I was getting on the highway...
« on: September 29, 2019, 07:20:51 PM »
Update: 09-29-2019 Test results from the welded clutch assembly...

PROBLEM:
I heard noises coming from the rear "driven pulley" / clutch assembly.  At speeds above about 60mph I felt a strong vibration coming through the floorboards.  I noticed a drop in top speed of about 7mph?  Seven mostly highway miles later at my destination I smelled a slight burning rubber order from the rear drive belt area.  I kept my speed down to ~ 55mph on the way home.

SOLUTION: Removed rear clutch assembly, I noticed the assembly was visibly crooked (see last of the attached pictures), so I ground the welds and hammered the clutch assembly to visibly straighten it; reassembled - problem solved.  Normal top speed & no more vibration / burning smell.   Obviously, OEM parts & normal assembly is best *IF* the parts are available either new or used on ebay.

However, a large bolt with nut and large washer cold be placed through center of the assembly to position it so the parts are parallel prior to welding to ensure correct alignment and you could use a digital caliper ~$25 harbor freight to measure the distance to ensure the parts are are parallel and you could or should? use washers or the original 38mm stripped nut for proper spacing - as the assembly is designed with the assumption that the 4mm thick 38mm wide nut is present.

The second to last picture - using a mirror to be sure the front face plate is properly installed
