Super 8 150 / Kymco OEM Parts
« on: March 26, 2015, 04:32:42 PM »
Looking to get a new air filter. Through an on-line search, I found that Dennis Kirk offers an air filter for $10, but does not say whether or not it will fit the Super 8 150 scooter. But, the picture posted looks identical to the S8 filter. Can any of you confirm?

Is there any potential damage running the motor with too much oil (over filling)? If any, what are some expected results?

Super 8 150 / OEM Parts Inquiry
« on: October 20, 2014, 02:53:13 PM »
Dang It! Looks like I need to replace my "Meter Visor". Or in other words, upper wind screen. I had over torqued the bolts, therefore, two of the mounting supports had shattered / broken :( Only two of the 4 mounts are now supporting the visor.

Any case, If any of you had already done your research and or had purchased OEM replacement parts, Which or where offered the best prices, and or shopping experience?

Any links provided are appreciated.

Btw, on an immediate on-line search "Payless PowerSports", I found a replacement. Cost: $34.67 However, there is no listing of color options, so I can only assume it comes in black, correct?

Super 8 150 / Fuel Gauge: In the Red
« on: October 07, 2014, 02:31:49 PM »
How many miles from top of red to complete empty?

Yesterday, starting my early morning commute, I glanced at the fuel gauge and to my surprise, I found myself at the border edge of the red. There is a fueling station near my house, another on route about 3/4 of the way of my commute, and another closest to my work place. My commute is approx. 13 miles, each way.

I skipped the first gas station thinking I can make it to the final station closest to my work. Well, I didn't think I was gonna make it, so I stopped at the station that is 3/4 of the way of my commute. Filled up with 1.1 gallons of gas. IIR, our small tank capacity is 1.3 gallons, yes? Good thing I stopped, because I don't think I would have made it to the final gas station on just 0.2 gallons of gas (near fumes)....... lol

Super 8 150 / Discovered an Exhaust Leak This Morning
« on: September 23, 2014, 02:35:49 PM »
I believe Wayne had posted something similar. But alas, on my commute this morning, I lost a bolt / plug on my exhaust.

I generally wear plugs. Any how, along my commute way, my exhaust was sounding a bit different, and could have sworn I heard some popping as I rolled of the throttle too. As soon as I rolled into a parking space at work, I left the motor running, pulled off the helmet, then removed my ear plugs, sure enough! there's an exhaust leak. Fortunately, it is / was a simple fix, w/ an M6 SS screw.

By chance, would anyone happen to know the intent of this plugged threaded hole?

Super 8 150 / Super 8 Fairing Removal?
« on: September 22, 2014, 02:18:06 PM »
Has a DIY and or a video been posted of the S8 fairing removal?

I have already done the front, upper cowl assembly, and the rear tail section. Boy, both were a lot of work (a lot to remove)..... sheesh
I had started to do the front, main fairing, then gave up, because I had already spent a lot of time with the other two. I lost patience. It seems you practically remove them as a full assembly, as to removing independent fairing, or side pieces..... wtf?! What were these engineers thinking .... my lord!

Any case, I would appreciate if any of you can give me some insight of removal process oft he main and or lower fairing 9whether by side, or if as a whole).

Thanks!

Super 8 150 / 1st Service
« on: September 12, 2014, 03:13:25 PM »
Manual says @200 miles. However, my local dealer and dealer I made the purchase from generally does 1st service @600 miles. Opinions / insight?

Maintenance: Aside from flushing the engine, tranny oil, and valve adjustment (if out of spec), anyone know of what other general service and or inspection is done?

Super 8 150 / Headlight: Dims out upon throttle
« on: September 08, 2014, 04:12:36 PM »
Being that my commute starts early in the morning, dark or nearly dark, I have noticed that the headlight dims out for a brief moment upon initial acceleration from a complete stop. Is this common? Is there a fix? regulator / rectifier?

ps, I have read some posts of the headlight issues from other users, but nothing on the subject of what I am experiencing. I can assure you it's not a battery issue, or a switch.

Race Talk / Inquiry: Technique of Dragging Knee on a Scooter
« on: September 08, 2014, 03:27:01 PM »
Anyone here race scooters or have raced scooters and can provide me good advice / insight of the technique of knee dragging on a scooter? What I mean by technique, foot placement for leverage and body positioning.

Keep in mind, I've seen the video's of scooter racing, and observed body position, which is similar to road racing a sport bike, but the foot position and or other techniques of "weighting" or leveraging the scooting into a full lean, without falling, or the feeling of falling off.

Fwiw, I have road racing experience. But a scooter, there are no pegs or a tank between your legs to leverage, or in other words, apply pressure.

Any how, in advance, Thanks for any valued input :)

Super 8 150 / New S8 150 Owner
« on: August 20, 2014, 02:37:03 PM »
Hey All,

Just thought I'd say hello <waves>

I ran across this forum when I was researching scooter models to choose from. I had also browsed different threads within this forum as well.

I just purchased my first scooter over the weekend; a brand spankin new 2013 S8 150 (5 miles on the OD). Started my break in on Sunday, a whole 26 miles (kept speed under 40mph and varied throttle).... lol

Attempted to start my commute to work yesterday (tues) on the scooter, but experienced a mechanical issue; reached speed up to 45mph and motor decided to shut down. Fortunately, traffic was not too heavy and I was able to make it safely to the side of the road. I was able to restart the bike a moment later and then make my way back home. Well, on the way back, the motor shut down a couple more times (both above 40mph), but was able to get the motor started and was able to get home.

I had contacted the dealer and informed him of my experience, and replied that it's quite possible there may be or had some debris / particles in the fuel system that may have contributed to my issue. He said to keep riding it, as it may pass (think of passing kidney stones .... lol). His last comment was if this issue persists, to bring it in. Unfortunately, the dealer is nearly an hour away.

After getting home from work, I removed the trunk to inspect the carb area ... I had read of some carb threads that others had posted. Inspected all the hoses; from carb to air box, and to the gear box. Some hoses looked close to being kinked (near sharp bends), so I made some routing adjustments. I then inspected the carb, intake manifold, boot, and air box. All hardware securely fastened.

Shortly after, I took the scooter out around the block, and seems to run fine, as it did when I kept the speed under 40 mph. I do plan to add more break in miles this weekend, and also take it out to an isolated area (no traffic) and test the waters again ...... to see if I can repeat the issue.

Any how, I thought I would share with you all my experience. Who knows, maybe someone else here had the same experience that I may be able to learn from.

I will keep this thread up to date as to whether or not the issue persists.

Happy riding :)
