Title: Drive Belt
Post by: CiderBoy on August 18, 2016, 10:08:54 AM

Simple Question : Malossi or Gates, which should I go for?

Thanks,

CiderBoy.

I'd trust most whatever comes in the Kymco bag.
Too important a part to gamble with.
Kymco puts best belts on their scoots IMHO....plus is a guaranteed fit.

KYMCO OEM. I know they are expensive, I just bought one for backup purposes. Went on a day the dealer was giving 20% off parts orders.

Based on what these guys on the forum said I replaced a belt with the OEM part. Too many belts that will fit but won't perform.

After my $1600 experience with some mods on my '07 500, I stick with OEM. I have heard from several reliable people that if you want to switch, go with all compatible, all from the same family. For instance, Malossi belt with Malossi variator and clutch and so forth.

Both Sissy Mary and myself have posted about this on other threads. Along with many other riders on this forum.

Go with Kymco. It will save you money in the long run.

Gates are crap and won't last very long. Mallossi are to be used with their variator only. And I would not use them then. Not same size, and narrow. Gates are cogged on only one side if I remember? Not stiff enough. Stay with stock or be left on the side of the road.  :-*

I ordered a Kymco belt. (listened to the wise ones here)  ;D

Will fit during the UK winter period. At the same time I will probably change the Malossi Rollers
as these have done about 8000 miles.

Regards,

Cider Boy.

I am using a gates booster belt and have zero issues. It must be booster(extra strong) . I have used both 9802-41811 and
9802-40811 and still riding way past the replace limit.

Have fitted new OEM Belt.

New front cone.

New rollers for my Malossi Variator ( malossi rollers done 7k could have stayed fitted)

Test drive and much smoother belt take up ..
