Technical | How To / Re: Spark plug advice (Iridium or not?)
« on: May 31, 2022, 03:06:33 AM »
On my Burgman 650 the plugs were a PITA.
Iridium's great claim to fame is durability, so I installed them on that.
I used copper on my old SYM, until the last change.  I could have regapped but I spent a few bucks and got an iridium.

No noticeable change in performance on either bike, but prior experience on my 2k6 burgman and my RAV say the iridium will hold up better so less hassle.

Honestly they're usually pretty competitive even including shipping.
They also come up with stuff others can't at times since they are just an outpost of a Euro-Retailer.

$326 holy cow I wonder what they get for the spark plug.

Racing Planet says they have it in their Euro warehouse, but their price is ludicrous.  Maybe ping 'em and see if that's a typo.

Do you hear the fuel pump run a bit when you key it initially?
Could this be a stuck side stand switch?

Pretty solidly above $4 per gallon in Pugetopolis still.
https://www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/washington/seattle.  Worse in my area. https://www.gasbuddy.com/gasprices/washington/shoreline.

MPG should be improving though since winter blend is working it's way out of the system this time of year.
Was interesting on my jaunt yesterday noting more drivers accelerating slowly, not racing to lights.  Even running slower on the freeway than has been the norm late.
Sadly, they're still surfing on their phones while driving, but ya can't have it all I guess.

Huh, no adjustment on the cable in the engine bay?
That'd definitely be a bit annoying.
Wonder if ya can't sneak a washer in where the cable attaches to the throttle body's bracket to give ya a bit more play.

Is this the beastie you're referring to Major?

Big Wheel Vespa?
Piaggio branded but I'm surprised nobody mentioned the Liberty, or in this forum the People S150.
Both are available for popular prices at a dealer new you.  Pick one up buy a Vespa badge and stick it on.  Voila.

Been on the books here for years, but pretty much no enforcement.
I suspect it's used as a tack on when someone's pulled for something else if they're being a dork.

From the manual:
• The direction of all weight rolls is same.
The color side is towards to clockwise.

From the interwebs seems the same as well.

And sliders (my preference)

I can't find the spec on the OEM belt vs. what you picked up (don't have that spec either), but the size and other dimensions of the belt do have some impact as well.
Normally when you change out a belt, even with OEM, you do lose a bit at first since the belt sits higher in the pulleys cuz it's a bit thicker.

When you changed out your belt did you change out your rollers as well, or leave the old ones in place?

@Tromper: for sure I'll let you know. Within a few weeks I'll do it. My People with genuine belt was good, had a decent acceleration. Then 2 years ago I put on a Bando new belt and it lost a little acceleration. It's as if from 30 to 60 km/h it lacks of power and struggles revving high. I hope with 12g rollers it will regain the lost "power". I'll let you know the result :)

Hey Faber please let us know what ya come up with and whatcha think.

For what it's worth, here in the U.S. I've generally found going a gram lighter's worth the bit of mpg, but I also live in a pretty hilly area.
It's also of note that you can mix weights a bit so if 12 g is too much one way and 13g too much the other, even number of both evenly spaced would yield the equiv of 12.5g.  Fair warning I ain't done it personally, but more 'n a few folks have on various models.  If you try it and it don't feel right swap it back to what worked before.

If ya want to get all fancy and read a bit check this out http://www.scooterfocus.com/scooter_variator_tuning_roller_weight.html
