Downtown 300 / Re: 700 mile trip through lot's of rain.
« on: October 25, 2011, 04:23:49 PM »
400 miles this weekend, mostly interstate, not a true pleasure ride. I wanted to test the mods.  Returned at night, the high beams are adequate, I see a future change for the low beams.  Next mod are the 14 gram sliders.  I like the hand protection from the Givi WS. I did not track MPG, but roughly I would guesstimate around 40 MPG at 75 MPH indicated.

I have never ridden with a helmet under the seat.  I guess a spare passenger (open face) would fit up front while riding, if not I would place it in the top box.

Riding with a passenger, storage stuff goes under the seat and/or trunk and helmets are on the stub.

General Discussion / Bike History, the (im) perfect two wheelers
« on: September 22, 2011, 04:31:55 PM »
Just wanted to relate some personal bike history.  It could be useful for new riders.  My fitment is a 29" inseam which eliminates a fair number of bikes.  Must have smooth throttle control/response, mostly in town riding with week-weekend trips.  Usual issues for me is the seat (height usually) and the windshield.

thanks for the replies.
Previous scoot must have had a better engine mount, it was not as noticeable.

I haven't mastered the digitial camera yet.

I will try to elaborate.  The location is the black plastic seatpan, the most rearward bubble (for the helmet).  I just used the Harbor Freight $10 angle grinder and cut out the entire bubble.  Note: when using a grinder (can't use a saw blade which cuts) it grinds/cuts continuously so there is a little issue with the plastic heating and re-glueing itself together.  I used hvac foil tape ( much better than duct tape) and depressed the hump while applying the tape to allow the foam to move downwards when sitting on the hump.  You may not want to cut out the entire bubble, instead cut out two half moon shapes with a 2-3" verticle (long axis of scooter) length of plastic as a support then you won't need to tape it.   IMO, butt stops/pads are non-functional and annoying, builders should keep the seat smooth from front to back, if needed then install a real backrest.

Downtown 300 / Vibration at idle is different with front/rear brake applied
« on: September 20, 2011, 06:09:13 PM »
Engine is warmed up.  Stopped at a light I use the rear brake, there is more vibration than holding the front brake.  Idle speed is about 1700 rpm so I don't think its fighting the cvt.  I am making a list for the 600 mile checkup, any ideas ?

see sig below  .... thanks

I am 5' 7" in shoes, 29 inch inseam and the seat constricts you to one position.  On longer rides I prefer to move around (for a few minutes) just to change position.

I cut the plastic seatpan (where the helmet bubble is located and taped the foam (with some slack) back to the seat pan.  This allows me to slide back onto the stupid butt pad and it returns to shape after I get off.  IMO, if you cut the foam at the butt-stop it will be hard to re-stretch that hump material smoothly.

I am contemplating doing a toe cut-out up front, but this would only give me 1 maybe 2 inches.  I am looking for a plastic insert that I could plug the hole because I don't want the wind/rain blowing on my feet.
