Title: Posting photos here
Post by: Stig / Major Tom on February 18, 2024, 09:55:21 PM
I simply do not know enough about the intricacies of how this forum is built - to talk a member through photo sharing from their phone or PC. Some get "your photo is too big" - that's above my paygrade.

I moderate-off spammers, and the rude and report violations of the members' agreement to the administrator. He acts very promptly, BTW.

I never want to cause an infection in a member's system by recommending things beyond my understanding.

Regarding sharing an appropriately sized photo with your post......

There are lists of free image hosting sites on the web.
Some free ones are dead simple - meant for sharing on forums and the like - not for storing - and they will not edit or improve your photo. You must do that in your phone or your PC before sending it through the host site.

 Try looking for...
"Top 10 free image hosting sites..."..."11 free image hosting sites"... Read the descriptions.

Me?, I looked for a free site which is meant for simple 'sharing'. Not for storing, nor is it for photo editing or 'improving' your photo.

Some sites let you post your photo for a week, a month or forever.
A host can work with pix taken on my phone - or from "picture" folders on my PC.  Hopefully I'm not giving myself a virus!

In any event - please do your homework.
I'll not be responsible for giving you a virus - and you'll feel good about your accomplishment!

Let me know if you're having issues.

Thanks Stig.  I will try!

Update:  Having now read Klav & Randy's posts, I'll give imgur.com a go as I'm cheap.  Thanks guys.

I post my pics from SmugMug.  They come out slightly big (on this forum) but close enough.  SmugMug is not free but it's a good place to organize and store my pics.  I take thousands of pics every year so its worth it to me.  The other two forums I am active on allow for posting pics directly without use of a hosting site.  They both have much better software than this forum which is very basic

No simple way to reduce those smagmug pix, Klav?
On my monitor I'll miss a good part of your photo unless I mouse the bars to and fro and up & down.

I can easily make them a lot smaller.
