Agility 50 / Use of B12 carb cleaner in the agility 50
« on: September 24, 2014, 02:50:17 PM »
Does  B12  cleaner harm the agility 50 carburetor or engine if used as directed?

A day or two later

Thanks to BettinANDlosing for his advice on (earlier topic) "Hesitating acceleration".....and will consider "carb clean" as absolutely the last possible alternative....not lazy, just clumsy.
SO..I have been, off and on, idling the engine in place (a total of about three hours) having added several ounces of Sea Foam, and about a half ounce of B12 in a mostly full tank of gas.
The engine is now smoother running, and has only a brief period of hesitation (wanting to stall when increasing the gas), and only in a dead cold start-up.
I'm satisfied with the results, and hope (?) not to have somehow ruined the engine in the process.
Anybody???

A WEEK OR SO LATER....After a day or so I removed and refilled the tank with fresh gas......Ran the scooter for about twenty miles on a trip without any problems...The hesitation is now hardly noticeable.
HOWEVER....I have since learned that the B12 cleaner CAN DO DAMAGE to the carb parts and would not recommend its use.

Agility 50 / Ethanol
« on: May 13, 2011, 12:36:41 PM »
There are a number of critics saying that ethanol (E10..+) will cause problems with smaller engines.  Has anyone had experience with this in thier scooters?

Agility 50 / velcro(TM)....A third hand to clamp the brakes
« on: January 18, 2011, 06:51:51 PM »
About 1"x8" long...like the kind (two sided)you find in the hardware to tie up lengths of stuff.
Looped around the left or right handle bar to quickly unwind and clamp the brake lever.

I find it useful at the mountain road intersections when I want both hands free to check the road map. ;D ;D ;D

Agility 50 / Xenon headlight ?????
« on: January 05, 2011, 05:37:35 PM »
scooterwest.com (among other sites for scooter parts) SEEM TO SAY ??..that there is a $16+/-  30 watt xenon headlight bulb that can be used in an Agility 125 (and therefore maybe ?? in an Agility 50) scooter.
If this is realllllllly true......I sure would be willing to spread a little bread to get better night time riding.
Anyone have wisedom on this subject... ;D ;D ;D

Agility 50 / Three small rubber hoses (?????????????????)
« on: September 17, 2010, 11:33:55 PM »
question......What are the three quarter inch (more or less) rubber tubes that are hanging down on the left side on the kymco agility 50 (2009) near the front end of the (shiny) helical spring that holds the scooter stand in place...and getting down on my knees to look more carefully  see that they all run up sort of together to a point where they then run a ways back and into the area of the engine.
Please pardon my ignorance of mechanics and part names.......I just happened to notice them for the first time tonight when I need to take a good look at the two scooter stands...........maybe they are air intakes (?) or what.....it just seemed a bit strange to me to see them hanging there.
Thanks for your help. ???

Talked with a local city traffic coordinator (who manages all such devices) about it today.....Says that they are not set to trigger for anything under 60cc types etc.......I further asked about something, like magnets etc, that might overcome the problem, but without any luck, and is unaware of any devices on the market for it.
Seems to me that there had been some advice given either on this forum or elsewhere but can't remember where...If any of you gentlemen can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it.........Thanks ;D

Agility 50 / crazy gas gauge
« on: July 19, 2010, 11:21:04 AM »
No real complaints, I guess, I mean the the thing does work OK..it's just the way it works that is aggravating.  The gas gauge needle travels all the way from the black squares at the top, through the white squares, and nearly all the way through the red square at the the bottom seeming to say YER ALMOST OUTTA GAS (panic..panic)....but when I stop to fill up...I find out that it is still over half full.
Has anyone ever run the thing nearly dry to see how the needle travels from the red square into the "E" area?.......I would really like to know at what point I REALLY need to fill up...I mean when there is like only ten miles worth of gas remaining.....................Thanks

Agility 50 / Too much gas??
« on: June 04, 2010, 08:25:50 PM »
It's easier just to crank the gas all the way over to go at max. speed (30mph+-), but today I noticed that I can get up to  speed when the handle is about 30% less then that...Question is... am I somehow wasting gas by cranking it as far as it will go...or is the gas flow regulated to just supply enough regardless??

Agility 50 / "Large scooter motorcycle trunk top luggage case",
« on: March 06, 2010, 06:04:16 PM »
Heads up on a good luggage item on ebaymotors to fit rather neatly on top of the rear frame of 2009 kymco agility 50.  tmshelmet is at any time auctioning a number of different colored cases starting at about $34.95....(a lot less than the $100 and more for your average motorcycle type).
I'm no expert but the case and mountings seem well worth the price, fit securely, and offer a lockable space for some groceries or extras need on a trip.
The only fault is that the rear passenger seat can not be used, as it rests at about a 45 degree angle down against the trunk....not bad looking though, and there is plenty of room to maneuver around the gas cap.
No instructions came with the item, so I offer the following:
I had to phone tmshelmet at 1-888-716-9526 for installation advice.  The mounting base plate is installed FIRST on the top of the scooter rear rack finished side up and then bolting the two provided metal brackets from front to back beneath the rack, the four longest bolts going down through the plate and bracket holes, and on either side of the two smaller cross braces on the scooter rack.  It just barely fits.  One or more of the long bolts might have to be cut  shorter to avoid damaging the scooter body.  After centering and clamping it down, the trunk is THEN bolted to the mounting base.
For me it was something of a gamble that paid off rather well.

Agility 50 / New York State vehicle laws on flashing lights
« on: February 11, 2010, 09:52:33 PM »
As well as other states, I suspect, flashing lights (of any color) may only be attached to and used on emergency type vehicles in NY....Reasons given are, for one, a dangerous distraction  experienced by other nearby drivers, and for another the inadvertent fatal attraction it might cause (moth to the flame effect).

On the other hand some believe that bicycles riders are not only allowed, but encouraged to use them, even though in NY a bicycle (in use) is considered to be a legal vehicle.

In as much as the agility fifty is legally limited to a speed of thirty MPH there might be some compromise involved.  We need to be seen also.

Any thoughts, experience or wisdom on this subject ??????????????

Agility 50 / winter storeage ?
« on: October 19, 2009, 04:53:50 AM »
Using Sta-bil in the gas and the battery trickle charger my agility 50 will be in the shed for the next three or four months (upstate NY).  I don't think it would be necessary to start up the engine during that time, but I am open to advice....Thanks for your input.

Agility 50 / Hand brake locking device?
« on: July 30, 2009, 01:30:51 AM »
Traveling through hilly areas, the one problem that I experience is momentary stops to check the map, etc. where both hands are needed.  It is difficult sometimes finding a safe roadside spot that is level enough to release the hand brakes....Does anyone know of a device that can be used to fasten over one or both of the hand brakes to keep the scooter from moving...Or what-ever?
