General Discussion / Re: Music on a motorcycle?
« on: May 15, 2018, 03:31:46 AM »
No music here, I don't want any more distraction from the distracted drivers around me trying to run me over.
Around nine years ago I was using a cheap car to commute around 120 miles/day.  Car had no radio; nothing for sound, I think it had been owned by a nun.  I never got around to putting even an FM radio in but got used to the nice quiet (except for voices and various music in my head) ;D for around a year.  Was sort of Zen-like, I guess.  Co-worker I sold the car to still has no sound in it after 7 years.  Maybe silence is a good thing?

Two people down, and I was amazed at how many cars passed by (plus someone in a wheelchair) and nobody stopped to offer help?  Where was this? I don't want to live in this town!

Technical | How To / Re: What is best anti-seize lube?
« on: March 05, 2018, 11:40:51 PM »
Best anti-seize is dependent on metal types, temp rating, and purpose, AFAIK.  I was told to never use zinc-based nevr seize on any fuel lines, for fear the injectors would be damaged or clogged.  Also, I was working on an oceangoing ship that had a back deck with many 7/8" threaded holes for placing eyes to secure conex boxes or other equipment.  The threaded holes were stainless, welded into a steel deck and had brass inserts (plugs) for when they were not in use.  Once a month the crew would remove, clean, and lubricate these plugs with Nevr-Seize (the zinc type). Every month we would have to drill and tap 5 or 6 of these (locked up) until starting to use petroleum-based grease rather than the nevr seize.  The mix of salt, zinc, stainless made the nevr seize act like a zinc anode and expanded in the threads.  After switching to plain grease, the plugs never were bound up again.
Apologies for long-winded post  ::)
Spring's coming!

OK thanks, I was just wondering how to determine TDC on our Kymco Like engines; some are completely different.
My Bajaj Chetak 150 is not the same, and has a manufacturer update to find TDC that came after the service manual was put out.
Pain in the butt, or what makes owning these scoots fun?
I'm for the fun option,

Good thing you were only embarrassed and not worse, in a left turn the side stand can cause you to high-side, not good!
I removed the side stand from my Like 200, because the previous owner had it fall over in a gravel driveway on the side stand.
Just think they are not really stable, especially if windy out.
Still too cold to ride here in RI (I'm a wimp) so going out to the garage to look at the scooter  ;D

Roadcraft / Re: Freeway Riders, how do you handle angry tailgaters?
« on: January 25, 2018, 10:22:13 PM »
I used to have a Vespa GTS 250 with a few (ahem) modifications that would beat anything from a stop.  Autos and motorcycle riders would get their panties in a bunch when I always beat them off the line and stayed far ahead, until max speed.  I couldn't outrun the Harleys on long straightaways.  Once passed a line of cars doing 90 on the interstate and got some funny looks. Came to my senses and sold the bike minus upgrades a few years ago; now happy in the slow lane.
I am completely on board with you guys about the scooter/motorcycle safety issue.  What difference does it make what you fall off of at 50 mph, moto or scoot?

Roadcraft / Re: You do steer around 'em, don't you?
« on: January 25, 2018, 10:14:22 PM »
I never steer away from any animals except deer, and have (luckily) never hit one on any 2 wheeler.  Seems they always run unpredictably at the last second, so if I tried to steer away would be more likely to hit them!
Hit a large wolf at 75 mph in a Corolla once, that was memorable.

Stig,
That's a very good video; just asking if that is the euro model of the Like 200i engine?
Sorry, I don't speak any German
Thanks for posting this!

« on: January 01, 2018, 01:29:59 AM »
Good to hear you're ok, Stig.  It's been wicked cold here on the east coast, too.  One of my co-workers got a bit of frostbite on his face yesterday; easy to do when temps in single digits and windy.
BTW, do you still have your Kymco?  I thought I had read you traded in for a Piaggio, both excellent bikes!

Awesome!  Must get lots of laughs (but not much speed)
Maybe snowshoes for winter?

Stig,
You're a tougher man than me!  Here in Rhode Island, I just winterized the two wheelers and it's around thirties tonight.
Will definitely take a ride sometime if it gets into 40 degree range, and I happen to be off work, and my wife and I don't have plans, and other things bla bla bla , well you get the idea...
Scoot riding and kayaking are always on the table here if the stars align in winter!
Stay warm,
Kurt

Hey thanks for the info; I hadn't thought of paint as a solution to the glare problem. Off to the auto parts store for a can of chrome paint!
