Title: Tire Sizes
Post by: Tromper on June 04, 2016, 05:06:33 AM
Hi folks,

If all goes well I'll shortly be in possession of an 09 Kymco People S150.
Before I take possesion I have the opportunity to swap the tires for something other than the 7 year old OEM Tires.

- What's the best OEM size tire for this?
- Can you/has anybody run a bigger size like...
Front: 100/80-16
Rear: 120/80-16
Which is available in the Michelin City Grip (my fav tire in this category)
Thanks for any help or thoughts.

What size comes on your scoot from the factory? The sizes you listed are my stock sizes on my S200.

When I bought mine it had the factory tire on the front and a new Pirelli MT75 on the rear...I replaced the 6 yr old front tire with another MT 75....i don't really have anything to compare the tires to but the online reviews I read were all very positive.

managed to get this one in the wrong forum and it won't let me delete it I fear.

This is actually for an S150.  Saw you could put the larger on the regular 150 with a minimal mod, but no reference regarding the (less common) S.
Probably the same but confirmation would be nice.

a quick internet search shows the People S150 comes with narrower tires..80/80-16 front and 100/80-16 rear. I would assume they are mounted on a narrower wheel, too..so no idea how big you can go with tires, sorry.

Figured I'd update this one.
As things turned out the bike was an s200 not an s150.
I ran Michelin City Grips, 100/80 16, & 120/80 16.
Odo, was pretty much dead on.  Speedo was a bit, (3-5%) optimistic.
Longevity.  4500 Highway miles and still life in the rear and front even with my fat butt, a set of tools, & 2 gallons of gas on the back.
Grip. They handled the Tail of the Dragon with ease, & at one point on the way to Pikeville TN I was riding in a winding road in a storm so hard that even the SUV behind me pulled over when I finally found some cover.  I could not see 5 feet, & was driving the winding road by the white line, but no slip, no slide, just perfect traction.

Overall.  I liked these on my HD200, & the long ride did nothing to convince me to look at anything else.

The factory engineers design a vehicle with certain use in mind and advise optimal tires for that duty.

< I > am sure I weigh a tad more than their test rider, and have a few more potholes in the roadway.

Those same engineers are sure I should purchase a larger, more expensive model.
